Im not sure if this topic should be here because i doubt its a bug with the site Basically when im downloading a file from the site the download speed seems to never rise above 21kb/sec. It isnt a problem with my connection because I can download files from other sites at my normal average speed of around 600kbs/sec (I have a 7.7mb broadband connection) So im just wondering what could be causing this. (By the way all other devices connected to my router are not using any of my bandwidth) Thanks in advance Mike

I was just completing the tests that you have listed and got as far as the screens of the download in action and believe it or not the speed was up to around 80kb/s. When I tried the mirror it was up to around 200kb/s which to be honest I can live with. Would you still like me to post the results from the tests? Mike -

Well as a follow up I tried to get some sense out of my ISP about the packet loss and rubbish connection to the site and they basically told me that there was nothing they could do. Looks like im stuck with the rubbish connection to the only site on the net worth visiting Mike -

Well I have done what you suggested. Turning off both my computers firewall and antivirus suite and the routers own firewall (I have a combined modem/router) before trying the download again and it still was the same. I guess im going to have to ring up the ISP to find out whats going on. I doubt I will have a chance to do that until monday now though. Il let you know what they put it down to Mike -

Thanks for the reply Erik I have just done the tracert. Here is the result. How weird is that. The other weird thing is that this has only started to happen recently. Mike -
I would really like to get this sim once released, but I would like to know if there are going to be any in-depth training missions with the sim. I have only ever played lock on a few times and found it difficult to go from the thirdwire sims to that because of the learning curve. My question is this does this sim have a steep learning curve? Are there going to be training missions that will start off with basic flight and go into detail such as the lock on sims? Thanks in advance Mike

Pulling the monoveur is incredible in itself. Pulling the manoveur at 1500 feet is simply nuts. I can only imagine what must have been going throught the Vietnamese pilots head.... The word OWNED springs to mind

Well it does take A LOT of getting used to. During my first few flights I was still using the quick view command keys F1-F9 to change my in game views. I decided to disable all of the 'F' keys apart from F1 (cockpit) and I kept Freecam view which I assigned to F6 (to take screenies) and only now am I realising the benefits of using TrackIR. I guess it just makes it so much easier to look where you want to in-game that you can concentrate on other things rather than pressing the view key you need. The ability to zoom in just by moving your head closer to the TrackIR sensor is probably my favourite aspect of using the system. It makes it so much easier to identify, track and destroy targets. Thanks for the reply JM I would like to invest some time in a 'hardcore' sim and I think DCS-A10 will most probably be the one. Its just finding the time to invest in it! Employers should offer an extra few weeks holiday to be taken when an employee wishes to play a new release..... I guess il just have to find the time to train myself up. I think the red bull market will do pretty well out of me for the next few weeks while I stay up to play the sim Mike -
Excellent review Ruggbutt. I think everything you have said is true. I am a complete noob at the TrackIr system and decided a few weeks ago to get the 5. Im not having as much sim time as id like at the moment so I am still getting used to it, but so far it has been awesome. It just puts the immersion into a whole new level. I would recommend this system to anyone who, like me. has never used trackir before. It was easy to set up, install the software and I have yet to have any issues with it. As far as the motion sickness goes, I did have a slightly qeasy stomach after my first hour or two. Afterwards it was fine Mike

I was on the way home from school on the school bus when the first plane hit. The first I heard of it was when, one of the guys on the bus said 'Someone has driven a plane into a building in New York'. Being young and i guess a little ignorant i thought nothing of it and continued to plan my pushbike ride with my mates that we were hoping to go on that evening. I got home and instantly knew something wasnt right because my mother and father were both sitting in front of the tv with looks of disbelief on there faces. I watched all of the footage on the news channel until it was time for me to go to bed. I guess its one of those days where everyone will remember where they were when they heard for the rest of their lives. RIP to all the innocent victims killed And to the guys who did it, may you burn in hell for all eternity Mike

Mig Alley Update Thread

There's a special place in heaven reserved for you guys with this awesome work. On a serious note, you guys are amazingly talented. Some of you should think about getting a job in this line of work. Personally I think a contribution to the site is a minimum for this sort of quality product. The work you guys do is a great representation of some of the truly brilliant people that we have in this community. As iv said before this is by far the best community on the net, and with people like you continuing to contribute to it then things can only get better. Thanks you very much for your hard work. I for one definately appreciate it Mike -
Well I have just done something I have been wanting to do for a long while. I have ordered TrackIr 5. Hopefully should have it by the end of next week. I have been playing sims for around 5 years (quite a newbie compared to some guys here ) and have never felt the need to get something like this. The hat switch on my joystick does do the job quite well. Now that I am playing more though i recognise the need for trackir and have decided to invest in it. Has anyone here had any bad experiences with this hardware or software? Any feedback would be appreciated Cheers Mike

Well I had the system delivered yesterday afternoon. For the last hour or so I have been fiddling with the many aspects of setting it up properly and trying it in game. I still dont think I have it right but as mentioned earlier in the thread it takes time to set up so im not getting frustrated. I have succesfully flown a mission in SF2:I in the netz to bomb an airfield and landed the aircraft safely. It takes a lot of getting used to I must admit. Its a bit early for me to say whether I am completely satisfied with it but its looking good so far. The only downside is that the instructions are pretty useless and it took a few minutes of staring at the components spread across the desk before i knew what went where. I guess another downside is (although it doesnt affect me) in order to get the software for the system you must download it because there is no disk drivers in the box. Once you have the software installed its relatively easy to use and configure. Well back to the fiddling then Mike Edit: as a side note, does anyone have any good tips for the speed and smoothness settings in the trackir software?

Surviving NF4+ 1986 campaign
MaverickMike replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I managed to to finish the campaign in the Canadian hornet. It is pretty much just as Slartibartfast just said. Being aggresive is key in my opinion. Just try and take out as many threats from BVR as possible. If your flying a strike mission or CAS bring along flight 3 and 4 as cover with AA loadouts and, once your close to your primary target send them to deal with any air threats in the vicinity and send your wingman and flight 2 after ground targets (wingman on primary target) Hope this helps Mike -
Thanks Ruggbutt. Thats a comparison which makes sense to me. Hopefully ill have mine by the end of the week. I have been laying off the sims for about a month and playing ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead a lot so im kinda hoping this will rekindle my passion for flight in the TW world.

thanks for the heads up guys. Hope fully the motion sickness wont effect me too much. I will also be trying it with ARMA but if its a bit awkward the il just stick to the mouse configuration I already have. As a side note it looks like im going to have to wait a little bit longer for the trackIR because i put my card details in incorrectly on the website. DOH!!! Mike

I play Arma 2 and I have the Operation arrowhead expansion. Id love to play in a team aswel if you make one. Mike
