  1. An interesting choice of a little known aircraft with a interesting history, what always intrigued me regarding the Marut was that it was part of a joint Egyptian / Indian programme to develop an indegenious aircraft that was subsequently ended when both countries succumbed and brought cheap readily available soviet aircraft after the 1967 Arab/Iraeli war. The Marut actually saw some combat in the airwars against Pakistan. http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/...aft/Marut1.html Link to History of the Marut which is well worth a read for an Aviation History buff.
  2. Not being able to afford a copy of 3D Studio Max but wanting to be able to modify aircraft models and to start to create my own I recently downloaded the free version of Googles Sketchup v6 and began to play around and in doing so discovered that it supported 3ds files and allowed them to be imported and modified. As an introduction to 3d modelling techniques it can't be beaten. Before anyone asks no I don't work for Google. Lazboy
  3. Hi I recently obtained from someone that I meet on online in the Uk, to whom I mentioned that I was into Flight Sims a disc that apparently contains a number of 3d StudioMax aircraft models, including a Buccanneer, Apache and Lancaster. I am no modder and don't have access to 3d Studio Max and therefore cannot verify whether they are valid files that could be used as a basis for future WOE aircraft. Could a Modder with access to Studio Max open one of the files If I emailed it to them and establish whether it is a valid model that could be adapted into an aircraft for use in WOE or WOV? tHANKS IN ADVANCE lAZBOY
  4. Does anyone know whether a Mcdonnell F101 Voodoo has been released or is available for WOV as I don't appear to be able to find one on any of the usual sites? As the first USAF aircraft to serve in Vietnam in 1961 in its RF101-C version i would like to be able to add it to my WOV install The RF-101C saw heavy service during the Vietnam war, losing the first F-101 in November 1964 to ground fire. From 1965 through November 1970, its role was gradually taken over by the Phantom. In some 35,000 sorties, 44 aircraft became lost — 31 to anti-aircraft fire, five to SAMs, one to an airfield attack, six to operational accidents, and one in air combat to a MiG-21 in September 1967. The RF-101C's speed made it largely immune to MiG interception. In April 1967, ALQ-71 ECM pods were fitted to provide some protection against SAMs. Although the Voodoo was again able to operate at medium altitudes, the added drag decreased the speed enough to make RF-101 vulnerable to MiGs and thus requiring fighter escort.
  5. Enrico I'll will add my thanks to those from USAFMTL as the Voodoo is a worthy old bird that deserves some long overdue recognition and I happen to believe that flight sims such as WOV and WOE are one way of recognising and honouring their acheivements and keeping their memory alive long after they have been put out to pasture.
  6. That's a real shame as it was a warbird that provided sterling service in Vietnam in the early years before the advent of the Phantom and the more popular birds and deserves due recognition.
  7. I have created a seperate WOE install and now wish to create dedicated Menu Screens I have easily modified the Main Screen menu as it was a BMP but have been unable to figure out how to create the other Menu screens required in the game as they are in .dll format?
  8. Thanks much appreciated now that I know where to find the various menu screens hopefully it should be plain sailing.
  9. Hi does anyone know if there is a TSR2 available for WOE or if anyone is currently working on releasing one?
  10. During some research I came across the unbelievable revelation that Dassault had once ditched the slender delta before the F1 and actually built a swing wing Mirage. the Mirage G8, so far the only model of it I have come across is for FSX though. "On 13 October 1965, Avions Marcel Dassault received a contract to design and build one prototype of a two-seat variable-geometry fighter, the Mirage G. Powered by a single SNECMA (Pratt & Whitney) TF-306E turbofan rated at 9300kg with afterburning and owing much to the design of the Mirage F2, the Mirage G was first flown on 18 November 1967. Wing sweepback could be varied between 23° and 70°, and a speed of M=2.1 was attained In late 1968, two further prototypes had been ordered, these each being powered by two 7200kg SNECMA Atar 9K-50 turbojets. After a succession of designation changes, these emerged as Mirage G8s, the two-seat first prototype flying on 8 May 1971, and the single-seat second prototype following on 13 July 1972. The Mirage G8 was envisaged as a multi-role fighter, capable of fulfilling intercept, patrol, attack and long-range reconnaissance missions, and was fitted with Cyrano IV multi-purpose radar, a low-altitude nav/ attack system, a laser rangefinder, Doppler radar and a bombing computer. The proposed production version was to have been powered by two SNECMA M53 turbofans. In the event, the Armee de l'Air concluded that the disadvantages of variable-geometry outweighed its advantages, and after study of a fixed-geometry version with 55° of sweepback (Mirage F8), further development was discontinued."
  11. Hi can you enlighten us how to make a usable seaplane or where I can find Paskos NIK1 so I can see how he acheived it?
  12. Time to turn for home, gauges are showing empty and I am breathing fumes, i'll be back on station flying top cover for you mud movers tomorrow evening watch you six till then. Check your six I have sent you a PM
  13. Well I have got to admit that "Flight of the Intruder" is one of my favourite films, if you haven't seen it you should, you would be in your element. If you haven't seen "Flight of the Intruder" i'll lend you my copy. "Gunfighters prefer to be on top the views better and while the north has plenty to offer you should never be afraid to go down south." Lazboy
  14. Well I know of no better alternative than WOV for recreating the Vietnam Era and there are some great additional missions for Vietnam from the Yankee Pirates that really add additional excitement and atmosphere to what is already a great sim. I must admit to being a Gunfighter rather than a mud mover everything looks so much better from 3000ft, give me a Crusader and I will show you a clear blue sky. SAM's add spice to my life and teach you to keep an eye out over your shoulder flak just annoys me, it tickles but isn't fun! Lazboy ( Southern Softie....)
  15. Welcome aboard Nicky its nice to see another Brit on CombatACE. Like myself you probably come from a FS2004 / FSX background and are used to photo realistic terrain, but you have to remember that the majority of Air Combat doesn't occur down amoungst the weeds but up amoungst the clouds, so I have never really found the lack of Hi - Res terrain a problem, the ability to fly and die more then makes up for it. The WOV & WOE community has some really skilful modders and designers who regularly release just what the community wants including replacement and additional scenerary. WOV hooked me from day one and then WOE blew me away, if you haven't as yet invested in WOE I would you will not be disappointed. LAZBOY (West SUSSEX)
  16. Thanks at least I now know that it is possible to use the Paratroopers , you don't happen to know where I could locate the "French Super Mod" was it available on Combat ACE or another site?
  17. Hi can you explain how you managed to equip your C-130 with Paratroops, I can see that in the weapons folder there are Paratroops listed but can't seem to get them to be usable, what do I need to modify to make them available?
  18. As a newbie I am trying to learn the intricacies of WOE by doing some fairly simple modifications and I am currently looking at modifying an existing C-130 to carry and launch from under its wings 2 or more BQM-34 drones as the DC-130 did for real. Can anyone tell me if its possible to turn the current downloadable BMQ-34 drone so that WOE recognises it as a launchable missle rather than a flyable aircraft, which files would I need to add or delete or modify to create a BQM-34 missile?
  19. Thanks for the insight into what i am getting myself into, i may lack skill but i have plenty of time and endless patience.
  20. Hi is there available or is anyone currently working on a Chinese Q5 / A5 which is apparently based on a heavily modified MIG-19 airframe?
  21. Has anyone as yet thought about modelling this late model Chinese J7 variant with a double delta wing planform that is supposidly in use with the PLA?
  22. Hi is the BQM-34 Drone which is downloadable from CombatACE flyable in WOE as I have downloaded it and can not get it to appear anywhere within the WOE menus, do I need to modify it in some way for it to be usable in WOE?
  23. Thanks as ever Guys, when it comes to the drone I have "cunning plan" which is still being formulated and being different enough may be of interest.
  24. Thanks for the link to the additional technical information I am even more intrigued now that it is apparently serving with the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) under the designation F-7PG. I shall have to search the internet for any specific references to the F-7PG in Pakistani Air Force service.
  25. In WOE I do not appear to be able to select any missions more recent to 1985 which restricts appear to restrict some of the weapons that have introduction dates after 1985, do I need to modify a file to remove this restriction?
