  1. Dawn Patrol is a classic, I just finished seeing my DVD a few weeks ago. Rickity I actually never saw the Captain Eddie movie because I heard it had only about 2 mintues of aerial combat! Is that true?
  2. When I first started playing OFF a few months back I remember an exchange in a post where I asked if the Aces that were in the game had their own personal individual skins added on to them and if they would be visible during campaign flights (if they flew with you or you ran into them) . I heard that no it was not possible. Today I am flying my "dedicated for Siggi's killboard DiD/TLW" campaign in my Fokker Dr1 against SE5as and a wandering group of Bristol fighters. As I down my first englishman I remember seeing a Fokker Dr1 flash past me in beautiful colors (somewhat like my Jastas' colors but with splashes of red along the fusealge...a sign or a red line), I then noticed another unit had joined the fray but they had their own unique color and it did not match the previously seen Fokker. As I dodged in an out of the battle I kept seeing flashes of this DR1...even though I had labels on , I could not take the time to study who I was seeing and in no way was in any posotion to take a screenshot. I am positive I ran into an individual Ace with his own personal plane. Now my questions.... Am I seeing things? Is it possible to assign an individual skin to an individual ace? Has it been done in some cases?
  3. Here are some of the balloons we are working on and a Zep...
  4. Thank you for the repsonses! I understood from the very beginning, completely, that there are thousands of skins. I did not know that individual aces , while in flight in campaign, sported their own skins. I was obviously miss informed. It could be that I mostly (until recently) played late war yanks....etc...and I never saw any of the skins assigned to them and the aces that I flew against all had regular unit skins. It's really awesome to know that and I will surely be on the look out! Thanks! so does anyone know out of the 2900 or so individual ace skins how many have in game assignments?
  5. Claim report question

now that is a good question....
  6. That is waaaaaaay beyond cool! Very nice!
  7. The caption was hilarious...pretty cool, i'll be on the look out for it...
  8. Joystick Recommendations

well do you only fly OFF? I find the Saitek X-52 hard to beat over all for all sims etc.
  9. Great game tonight with plenty of highlights. Scenario: Lamb to the slaughter 2 british Se5As with 0/0 pilots on their first mission have been seperated from their squadron (one is very badly damaged). German Jasta 11 lurks a few thousand feet above them ready to pounce. 2 brave British Camel Pilots climb desperately to try and save them. it was a spirited fight that saw the SE5as turn agressive and deliver some blows. In the end one Se5a pilot surivived and the one flying the damaged plane perished. Congratulations to Martin Von Scrub in his rickity crate Albatros for getting his first kill (him and Von Rolshoven had to cut a deck of cards to see who got the kill as they both scored and equal amount of killing hits on the SE's last turn). Other squadron news that was taken care of: Adolph Bulow has joined the squadron with a few missions under his belt and a Shiny new Pfalz XII has been issued to Jasta 11. James Cunnigham , leader of the 94th aero squadron, has been promoted to Major Rene Jeannot has recieved the Croix de Guerre medal for his outstanding achievements in combat. and of course Martin Von Scrub has a confirmed kill.
  10. How small it is!

Nice video, thank you for posting. Probably the most beautiful plane ever created.
  11. Olham be careful of over confidence in the plane (now I know what Voss went through), I had devleoped an ACE with 7 kills at 100 realism DiD/WTL in a Dr1 and got over confident. On the Aces' last day on earth, I single handidly attacked 7 SPADS and while I put up a spirited fight I ended taking a dirt nap. Are you agressively adjusting trim? it eases some of the nerovousness the plane sometimes has.
  12. I just played today ...great, great game. You can play it with dosbox 7.2 and download it for free. Worth the effort ...even on an uber modern rig it rocks.
  13. Just follow silver bolt's instructions and let's get some stuff uploaded!
  14. Guys there is no need to contact Combatace about uploading any modded files. Just upload them and give proper credit where it is deserved. So from our end go ahead. Follow Winder's wishes and PLEASE upload the sound files if they fit the criteria.
  15. Original RB "is" really , really awesome...I say is because I still play it.
  16. Did you guys get this over in the UK in the 70s?
  17. Balloon kills were defintley counted in world war one as aerial victories and they were a big part of the air war. I modded a campaign where all I got were Balloon missions and this is what I found out: If you are leading the flight and tell wingmen to attack, there is a huge chance that one of there bullets will score the killing damage. If you are leading the attack and just tell the wingmen to cover you (form up on you) and you do all the shooting and the balloon goes down, you will get to fill out a claim every time.
  18. Updated again! double balloon hunting mission with randon 2 seaters...quite a show. enjoy th pics!
  19. Thank you for the feedback!.... but you have to see the latest set of pictures I just posted. UPDATE: double balloon hunting mission with randon 2 seaters...quite a show. enjoy th pics!
  20. This was our 3rd mission on August 3, 1918. We had a "what you see is what you get board" that included a trench line, with opposing balloon brigades facing each other. On top of that there was also random automated recon planes flying up and down the trench. It was equal parts dangerous and fun time for the hunters. Jasta 11 and the 94th aero squadron really went at it and it was a draw. There were 4 kills including both the German and American balloons as well as a DH4 and LVG 2 seater planes shot down out of the sky. Lieutenant raymer of the French Escadrille also scored a very lucky balloon kill where he was almost shot down. Enjoy the pics and read the captions for details... The mission starts! Jasta 11 and the 94th jockey for position. Pilots James Cunningham (3 kill pilot and Captain of the 94th) and Delvechio (12 mission pilot of the 94th) aggressively strike the Drachen on the second turn. The balloon goes up in flames, Cunningham gets lucky and scores 5 hits to Delvechio's 4 and confirms the kill. Emil Vogel and Helmut Stenier of Jasta 11 sandwich Charles Burdick of the 94th with a bottom and top attack at 50 feet! Burdick gets away unscathed. Von Liebau of jasta 11 scores his 4th confirmed kill! he needed to score the maximum amount of hits on the right wing to bring the DH4 down. Emil Vogel scores an allied balloon after braving enemy fire Emil Vogel in his trusty Pfalz stalks an American SPAD XIII The Balloons are down and the chase is on! Cunningham blast a crippled two seater for his second confirmed victory of the night (at 300 foot altitude, 4 turns of firing...) and becomes an official ace! Jean Raymer sustains 3 engine hits on first pass at balloon and scores a killing blow. .
  21. Yes I have Richtofen's war! Don't throw that away ever! There are many people that would buy it on eBay etc. if it ever came to that. There have been many, many WW1 aerial combat games over the years but I keep coming back to Dawn patrol by TSR...it's just a magical game...it's so much fun.
  22. I like to make myself at least a Captain because I like ot lead the flight and see that as more realistic because of the Rank. I enjoy the period of 1918 so I tend to play the Yanks specifically the 94th aero squadron. That being said I try Germans, French and British as well and follow a similar pattern. I like the SPAD and the DR1 so I tend ot focus on those planes. I will try the Camel and SE5a soon ...
