  1. Much as I love Third Wire, I've found that multiple bomb explosions lag my system. Is there a way to reduce the particle size of bomb explosions (NOT balloons bursting) or duration of the fireballs for First Eagles? Yours, Mike
  2. Problem solved. What I did was go into the folders in Objects/Aircraft and Ground, then Configuration Settings for the individual aircraft/weapon and change specular, glossiness, and reflection to 0.00000 for each. Same was done in texture set for aircraft skins. Frame rates with settings set to medium has been superb. With cockpit on I'm getting frame rates of 40-50. Yours, Mike
  3. All settings were set to low. I definitely take a frame hit due to smoke generated after hitting a convoy on armed recon. No problems with the archies or balloons bursting however. Yours, Mike
  4. Nuclear Ops...or Ooops?

When I was in SAC from '81 to '88, all my wing commanders were 0-6's. Squadron commanders ranged from majors to Lt. Colonels (0-4 to 0-5). Yours, Mike
  5. Nuclear Ops...or Ooops?

All those involved in this fiasco should be discharged ASAP, from the team chiefs, missile maintenance, munitions controllers, loaders, conventional, nukes, to QA, wing safety, SP shift commander, etc, etc. The doctrine is pretty clear- http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/doctrine/usaf/index.html http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/doctrine/usaf/91011100.pdf Safety checks, anyone? Yours, Mike 46370, '80-'95
  6. Purchased WOE a week ago and enjoy it immensely. However, I have some input regarding the nukes in game and some suggestions for improvement- 1. AGM-69A SRAM- brown rocket motor bands instead of black. Reddish brown nose tip, and reddish brown fins (for starters)- http://www.fb-111a.net/sram.html (weapon in pic has a live rocket motor but inert payload). 2. B61- well represented, needs reddish brown nose (and silver tip if your a stickler for details)- http://www.flickr.com/photos/lifeontheedge/292315596/ 3. B43- red "nose" is actually a radome cover, nose is black. Parachute had plain white or off white color. 4. B83- strategic aircraft only! Perhaps someone can mod it into a B28FI for the B-52? Here's a picture of a clip-in- http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheet...eet.asp?id=1036 5. Add B28RE for tactical use (one per aircraft)- http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/systems/...s/b28-color.jpg (note- the red cover topside is an electrical connector protective cover) 6. B53 strategic bomb- for B-52, gotta have this pig! http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheet...eet.asp?id=1037 Would also be helpful if someone could fix the loadouts- B-52 carried a typical load of 6x SRAM, 4x B28's (or 2x B53) or some variation thereof. FB-111 "usually" carried four weapons (2x SRAM and 2x B43, 61, or 83). Tactical aircraft usually limited to one bomb. Weapon parameters need some fine tuning, but SRAM needs some work as far as range, speed, and ability goes. A time delay feature- for low level delivery called "laydown" to allow delivery aircraft time to escape- can this be modeled in WOE as a delayed detonation? I'd be more than happy to help out anyone who would like to tackle the situation. Yours, Mike
  7. Carlos Hathcock woulda been my choice... those early 61's were just too shiny in their unpainted, carnuba wax state! Yours, Mike
  8. Xin Loi Hanoi Jane! You numbah ten, get Mark 41! Yours, Mike
  9. Of course we can't go into too many details, but things like paint schemes are no problem (many of the paint schemes on weapon shapes in museums are incorrect, in no part due to volunteers or staff). As far as the bang goes, well, we'll just use what's in the public domain... It shouldn't be hard to mod older systems like the Mk3 Fat Man, Mark 4, 5, 6, etc. and the early thermonuclear types for SAC bombers (Mk14, 15, 17/24, 21/36, 39, etc). I'll see what I can come up with regarding laydown in the .ini files. Yours, Mike
  10. Unfortunately my experience with modding is limited to editing files with Word or Notepad. So, if anyone's up for a new "Nuclear Weapons Pack" let me know, I can assist with the correct paint schemes and whatnot (without going into too much detail). Also have some decent pics of Soviet/Russian, British, and French bombs. Anyone wanna take a stab with Israeli, Pakistani, and Indian nukes? http://www.nuclearweaponarchive.org/Usa/We...s/Allbombs.html Yours, Mike
  11. Hey Kevin, Did you obtain the proper release and consent? Your DCU panel probably has a short, lol. Yours, Mike
  12. I've run through the weapons loadouts looking for something that could be useful for SRAM guidance (no joy). I've had great success launching from 10,000 feet for long range targets and keeping the reticle on target during launch (after launch you're free to hunt for other targets, etc). The 61 was originally unpainted, with a wax coating (later mods were painted with an aluminum based paint). It was originally a paste that had to be mixed with epoxy, thinned, and applied with a spray gun. We later received paint cans, they were about $40 a can (in 1980 prices). And no, the 61 doesn't have a red nose (like I stated previously it's a cover removed before flight on the 28 and 43). Here's an example of a test shape drop (note the color scheme)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whtP0uSKyf0 I did find something to help mod the B53 bomb if anyone's interested- the BLU-82 has a massive parachute which we could use for the 53's massive three 48 foot diameter chutes... Yours, Mike
  13. I'm wondering if there is a way to model positive control when using nukes in this game. For example, a 15 or 20 minute delay before the bomb actually can be released. Early nukes had nuclear material seperate from the bomb (a "capsule" stored in a "birdcage"). So, in aircraft like the B-29, B-50, B-36, etc. it was manually inserted (taking anywhere from five to 20 minutes). Later this was accomplished by electro-mechanical means (switch in cockpit). In 1962, Permissive Action Link and the Human Reliability Program came about adding more control measures to nukes. The first PAL devices were mechanical locks, DCU panels, etc. According to Alexander Zuyev the Soviets adapted a similar control system managed by the KGB. Zuyev states the KGB and GRU "interrogated" U.S. pilots captured in Vietnam regarding LABS toss and PAL; the pilots were subsequently "liquidated". Yours, Mike
  14. How is the Genie modelled in game? In the real world an F-106 pilot closed (lead-collision) and when the target solution was established on the AWCIS (Aircraft and Weapon Control Intercept System) the pilot manually locks on with radar. For pursuit, radar lock on is not used but the AWCIS provides fire and pullout data. The unguided rocket would travel approximately 14,000 feet in 4.5 seconds (about Mach 3), where the warhead would automatically detonate by timer. Yours, Mike
  15. Here's a list of tactical air deliverable weapons- Wings over Europe Air Delivered Nuclear Weapons 1962 W25/AIR-2A Genie Mk28EX Mk28RE Mk28IN Mk57 Mk43 1968 W25/AIR-2A Genie Mk28EX Mk28RE Mk28IN Mk43 W54/AIM-26A Nuclear Falcon Mk57 Mk61 1970's B28RE B43 B57 B61 W72/Nuclear Walleye Reference- History of the Custody and Deployments of Nuclear Weapons, 1945-1977 (Appendix B) http://www.nautilus.org/archives/library/s...A/CustodyTb.PDF Nuclear Weapon Archive B83 was not deployed in Europe nor was the AGM-86 (but hey, nothing says we can't use them in theater on a B-1, B-2, B-52). Several NATO aircraft were also nuke capable. Let's not forget the British WE-177. I can provide a list of Soviet nukes if anyone's interested in modding them. Just ordered my WOE today, so it'll be a few days before I can check out the "nuclear option". Yours, Mike USAFE '88-'92
  16. I'm new to the forum and am researching nuke options (worked on nukes for my entire military career, and around FB-111, F-16 , and B-1B). SRAM was used only on FB-111A (F-111G), B-52G and H, and B-1B. So, with that in mind can someone inform me what "nukes" we have available in game or as a download? I'll see what I can come up with regarding deployments in '62, '68, and so forth (unclassified, of course) Yours, Mike
