Rustymorley, you're absolutely right there..... The wright Flyer is a (or arguably THE) pioneer aircraft and considering the fact that it was quite literally home-built by Orville and Wilbur Wright and was the first true aeroplane, It shouldn't have been included in that list.... As for all the other entries in that list; Yes they were indeed monumental disasters.....

The Normandy landings (a.k.a D-Day on June 6, 1944), The largest seaborne invasion in history, the operation began the liberation of German-occupied northwestern Europe from Nazi control, and contributed to the Allied victory on the Western Front. A big salute to all those who participated in this assault! Your sacrifice & efforts will never be forgotten!

For the Close Air Support (CAS) role the A-10 is a decisive winner... it's no contest at all.... -
DCS News: F-5E / Spitfire IX / Bf 109 / Normandy

Looks like they decided to include the elliptical wing version of the Spitfire IX! Nice.. It looks better than the clipped wing version any day...... -

Hey Mr.Volker... How are you feeling now??? What's your status.. PleaseTalk to us....
-
Mr. Volker, How are you doing? Please update us with your status... Hope you're better now....

Seriously???!!! Who's the developer? I just hope this doesn't meet the same fate as other 4.5 & 5th gen DCS aircraft: Ending up as vaporware.... Edit: Hold on a minute... this is some sort of gag, isn't it?
-
Hi MiGBuster.. don't mind my asking but you said SF2, DCS and etc... Which sims are you referring to in 'etc'? I really wish DCS would focus on 4.5 & 5th Gen fighters... P.S.: Please don't mind what I said above.....But.... I mean...Isn't it monumentally disappointing when developers showcase / promise something new and revolutionary and all of a sudden what they promised ends up as Vaporware....First Iris with Their Tomcat, Strike Eagle & Raptor modules for DCS and no Sim155 with CAP2... now new combat flight simulations seem to be coming on the horizon..... We're living in really sad times.....

Don't mind my asking but......Will This project continue even though the kickstarter goal wasn't reached? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1413102387/combat-air-patrol-2

The F-35 was probably piloted by a cook/janitor who just learned to fly....

DCS: Spitfire Mk.IX
SkyStrike replied to SilverDragon's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
If you don't mind my asking: do we only get a clipped wing low altitude version, or is a regular version of the Mk.IX with elliptical wings also included? -
Any word on a new 'Strike Fighters 2' title?
SkyStrike replied to TeaAndScones's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
My Dear Sir, I did clearly mention that I was aware of the 4.5th & 5th gen aircraft mods available in the downloads section and i'm that using the same on my merged SF2 installation and i enjoy them..(kindly refer my quoted post below and please note the text in red)... And yes.. the efforts are commendable.... & I personally appreciate them and so do many others... But the point I was trying to make is this: Since SF2 series are optimized for 3rd & 4th Gen combat Aircraft.. when 4.5th & 5th gen aircraft & weapons are added are added as mods..Sure they fly & perform well but limitations still do exist... e.g. Pitch linked Thrust vectoring in the F-22, when the vector nozzles get shot off by enemy gunfire the plane behaves very sluggishly even though the ailerons & elevators still appear to be in tact....Why? because due to sim limitations the thrust vectoring nozzles of 5th gen aircraft mods like the F-22 are mapped as flight control surfaces in the flight model .ini's...... So limitations do exist... What I was trying to say that these issues would be greatly minimized an even non-existent in a dedicated 4.5th / 5 gen combat aircraft sim with stock 4.5th & 5th gen aircraft..... and it would be just super awesome if such a sim did exist... till then we will have to make do with add-ons... kindly refer my quoted post above and please note the text in red To the modders: Please don't be offended.. Your efforts are really commendable & I really appreciate & thank you in all sincerity for your work & dedication... its just that i wish game/simulation developers would see your efforts and consider developing a modern jet combat flight sim with stock 4.5th & 5th gen combat aircraft... -
Any word on a new 'Strike Fighters 2' title?
SkyStrike replied to TeaAndScones's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If ever there's another 'Strike Fighters' release I hope it'll be one with Modern 4.5th & 5th Generation fighter jets (F-14D, F-15E, F-16C/DE/F, F-22, F-35, Eurofighter, Rafale, and the likes) as stock aircraft, add mid-air refueling, AWACS support, correct the thrust vectoring issue, add asupport for active radar/fire& forget missiles... and released for PC... Most of the above mentioned aircraft are released for the Android/ iOS version of SF and not PC... (not angry but annoyed) While I know that the above aircraft are available as mods for SF2 and I still enjoy flying them.. Having a sim dedicated to 4.5th & 5th Gen aircraft....Now that would be mind-blowing...and even rival DCS Mr. TK.. could you please consider..... I for one will purchase a copy if its released & i think many others will too... Thank you very much... EDIT: Whoops... Sorry...... didn't see the post regarding TK's financial situation..... but if the dream project in my post ever reaches fruition many faithful combat flight simmers (including myself) will be very, very, happy.... -
VEAO Eurofighter
SkyStrike replied to SilverDragon's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yeah.. I'll second that... Hiatus can be defined as a 'temporary gap' but the length of the gap can be called to question..... -
VEAO Eurofighter
SkyStrike replied to SilverDragon's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I don't know..... All the proposed releases of 4th, 4.5th and 5th Generation fighter modules for DCS seem to end up as vaporware.... Don't mean to be rude but IRIS' F-14, F-15E & F-22, Kinney interactive's F-35, ended up that way...Don't know what happened to Razbam's F-15E & Mirage 2K... As far as I'm concerned...I'm not keeping my hopes up too high... -
Nice pictures.... I have a question with regard to one of the pics...(The one in the beginning of this thread...) The aircraft in the picture has USAF tail codes "MO" (It's from Mountain Home AFB isn't it?) but the same aircraft has Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) insignia.... Are they (the aircraft) being evaluated by USAF aircrews? Or are they being used for Training RSAF aircrews by USAF personnel prior to export to Singapore?

Right!... This mission is playable in Jane's USAF during the Gulf War campaign.... This was the only US combat loss of an F-14....

I got myself an Alienware 17 with A core I7 4710M, 8GB GTX880M, and 16 GB RAM with 256GB SSD & 1TB SATA last year and it can handle any (gaming/simulation) software thus far.... I too had a similar question as you did regarding whether I ought to get an Alienware 17 or Asus G series.... Chose the Alienware 17 due to better tech support and product availability in my country of residence... Had I chosen the Asus G series; I would've had to import it, (it cost a bomb)... customs would also have to be paid and lack of tech support...so considering the overall costs covering price of the Laptop, Import duty, tech support, the Alienware 17 was the better option as far as i was concerned... I Know that the Asus G Series has a better cooling system though (although The Alienware 17 can match up to it on all other aspects)..... If tech support for ASUS products is readily available in your country... go for the latest Asus G series...

New jets (like the F-86 Sabre, F9F Panther and F-84 Thunderjet)..And besides this I think that it can be only played online.... -

With Leathernecks new Turkey, what will happen to IRIS' 'DotF' Module?
SkyStrike replied to TeaAndScones's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Personally I look Forward to an F-14 module being released for DCS... It's about time someone decided to release a US 4th generation fighter module for DCS... If at all there's a Tomcat module to be released for DCS it's most likely to be released by Leathernecks... By the looks of things IRIS' F-14 F-15E and F-22A are most likely vaporware (what a monumental disappointment!!!) -
Single Mission Flight Size
SkyStrike replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Now that you mention it.. I've been having similar experiences with my merged installation of SF2 (Vietnam, Europe, Israel & North Atlantic) By any chance would you happen to be flying these missions with maps with aircraft carriers.... such as Iceland and Vietnam for instance?.... I'm asking because you said that you experience these issues only while flying Naval (or should I say) carrier-based aircraft.... Just an assumption: Since these issues don't seem to appear while flying Air Force (Land Based) aircraft; Apparently your flight size is larger simply because an airbase you would start out from is able to support and deploy more aircraft which would be assigned to your squadron... For example: If you are flying in a map without carriers (e.g. Germany or Israel) and you're flying a land based aircraft such as an F-15 or F-16 and set the air opposition option to 'heavy' you will have sufficient resources to deal with heavy opposition.... The same will be the case even if you fly a carrier based aircraft (e.g an F-14 or an F/A-18) on these maps....simply because there is no aircraft carrier in these maps and even while piloting Naval aircraft you would start out on landside airbases In the case of maps with aircraft carriers such as Iceland or Vietnam; You wouldn't experience the issue of insufficient wingmen to deal with heavy opposition while flying Air Force (i.e. land based) aircraft simply because the airbase you start out from is large enough to support and deploy a sufficient number of wingmen to your squadron... However the same is not true while flying Naval (carrier based) aircraft, simply because the carrier which you'd start from is not large enough to assign or should I say support and deploy more aircraft to your squadron... so as a result you'd have a maximum of 4 aircraft in your squadron including yours... I guess this issue is due to game code limitations as more than 3 support aircraft cannot be assigned to the player's squadron while piloting Naval aircraft operating from aircraft carriers.... Sorry I couldn't be of more help....
