Well, it's a Boeing artist's impression so I assume so.

RF-111G
PigDriver replied to Canadair's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I hope so, because it looks like a fantastic mod and it sure would be a shame for it not being released just because of a misunderstanding. In-fact, after the Buccaneer, this is the mod I've been most looking forward to. (For obvious reasons! ) -

Can I just say on behalf of all the 'Vark fans on CA: -
Aren't we getting a little off-topic here, Gentlemen? I don't see what aircraft carriers and a fictional European STOVL aircraft have to do with RAAF F-18Fs. Sorry, but I just couldn't resist posting this: Perhaps it will help anybody who is planning an RAAF F/A-18F skin for the upcoming Super Hornet mod...hint, hint... :nyam:

Well, firstly it's not Boeing's to offer and secondly, the whole Kittyhawk to India thing was just an internet rumour,a senior US Navy officer came out and said that the Indian's hadn't approached them about selling it and they hadn't offered it. Besides, the RAN has a massive shortage of sailors at the moment, it can only put 5 out of six Collins Class SSGs to sea, so there's no way we could man a vessel as big as the Kittyhawk, not to mention that the costs of operating it would be needlessly excessive. I'm afraid the notion of Australia operating an aircraft carrier died with the HMAS Melbourne. Now, F-35Bs operating off the Canberra Class amphibious landing ship is another story... :nyam:

It would have taken some very rare circumstance for the SH order to be cancelled. However, I disagree with the comment that cancelling it would create tension between the Australian and US governments. The Australian-US alliance transcends any one decision. I sincerely doubt that cancelling one defence purchase would create tensions, especially when one takes into account sixty plus years of co-operation and friendship.

The Balance of Power in the Southern Hemisphere

Ah yes, Carlo Kopp. His name is mud with a capital 'M' in Australian military circles. His insistance that a "Super F-111" retrofitted with F-22 engines coupled with the F-22 is the only choice for Australia's air power future, mainly because he and his engineering buddy Peter Goon came up with the idea and stand to gain financially if it were selected and any other alternative would see the Chinese flag being hoisted over Parliament House. Basically, the guy has a major right-wing paranoia over China and can't stand the thought of an RAAF without the F-111. If you read some of his stuff, his whole argument for an F-22/F-111 force mix seems to be pinned on a strategy whereby the PLAAF attacks our off-shore oil installations and every RAAF base north of Amberley with the TU-22s they don't have. Then of course there's those pesky SU-30s flooding into the region. For one, the only country with SU-30s who inconceivably may use them against us -- and it's a very big "may" -- Indonesia, only has four and can't afford to arm them. The rest: Malaysia, we have a long standing mutual defence agreement with and have an RAAF attachment at RMAF Butterworth, and China and India, apart from the fact that our mineral resources are powering their energy industries for the conceivable future, would need excessive tanker and ISR assets to carry out such an attack. The fact is that yes, the SU-30 is a capable aircraft, but it is in such insufficient numbers and questionable reliability with our near neighbours, that it will be easily countered by Aussie Super Hornets and F-35s, especially when supported by Wedgetails, KC-30Bs and the Jindalee Over the Horizon Radar Network, not to mention the superior training recieved by RAAF pilots. -
I'm sure this has been asked before but the search function came up with zilch; is anyone working on an RF-4E?

Having trouble using AGM-130 on non-US, US made aircraft
PigDriver posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I created a Hellenic Air Force F-4E as per the "Create Specific Country Aircraft" and I want to use the AGM-130 with it. I tried the basic ini. weapon tweaks, but it doesn't come up in the weapons selection, nor with any of the other "Country-Specific" Phantoms I've created. This seems odd as I can use it with my USAF F-4E and they're basically the same plane aren't they? -

Yeah, you're right, upon further fiddling with the Attachment Type it turns it was the export value. -

Actually, you have to put NATO in front of USAF. -

Scratch that, making the AGM-130 a "NATO-only" weapon solves it. Cheers! -

Tried it, still doesn't work, the same problem with the F-15I and K, AGM-130 works perfectly on the 'E'. Would it have anything to do with the export value? -

How do you change the data in the wep .ini to make it useable with country specific aircraft? I added a GREECE attachment type to the AGM-130 entry and the aircraft's data .ini. -

Nice! I'm looking forward to the Bushwars mod, it's a war that has always interested me (I've always been interested in "Forgotten" wars), and I was thoroughly impressed by the ingenuity of SAAF tactics I read in the ACIG article; for anybody who hasn't read it I highly reccommend it. -
Just downloaded the Tornado FMk.3 from AVSIM, installed it according to instructions, it loads, but when it gets to 100%, the program locks up. This is the only aircraft that this problem is associated with, is this a known problem? If so, can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Australia goes with Fullbacks?
PigDriver replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
I believe the inspiration for this "analysis" comes from this Russian newspaper article Australia chooses between Russian and American military jets and I can't believe this has been taken seriously. The amount of time Australian military planners would take to consider anything Russian is the same amount of time it takes to say "Russian". As you can see, amongst other things, it claims that the RAAF negotiated for "large numbers of SU-27s" and that we are no longer buying the F-35. Which I'm sure comes as a great shock to the RAAF. Not to mention the political consequences of such a move, the fact is that you would be integrating an aircraft with a totally foreign (literally) supply and maintainence chains into an Air Force which has used Western aircraft and equipment since it's inception, not to mention getting spares out of the Russians (as the RMAF will attest, which is why it asked the US to sell it Super Bugs) can be like getting blood out of a stone and there's a reason why Sukhois are cheaper than their Western counterparts, the materials used are usually of a cheaper quality and they don't have to pay their workforce as much. While the F-15E+ would have been a better replacement for the F-111, the more expensive unit price and familiarity of RAAF pilots with the Hornet and more advanced avionics made the SH the obvious choice. However, the introduction of longer ranged weapons such as JASSM and a 540KM powered JSOW-ER that DSTO is currently developing in partnership with the US means they can make up the range gap and the development of more powerful smaller warheads such as the SDB means you don't have to carry the payload of the F-111 anymore. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the F-111, my study is a tribute to it, but it comes from a different time when you needed 24 Mk.84s to make sure you got a target. In the era of Network Centric Warfare, it's about "Effects Based Strategy" rather than deterrence, showing an enemy that you can carry out a comprehensive air campaign against them rather than just detterring them by sending F-111's into downtown Jakarta. (Although, given the current state of the TNI, this is still an adequate defence ). I pity the fool who tries to take on the fully networked RAAF post-2010. -
