Adding weapons WITHOUT weaponspack
Rambler 1-1 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, I have the CAT extracter, but I extract the WEAPONDATA.ini and .DAT files, modify them with the weapon editor, and then no weapons at all show up in the game. If I delete the extracted and modified WEAPONDATA files, the game reverts to the one in the ObjectData.cat and everything goes back to stock. -
Target Illuminating Flares

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll DL the RF-4C and modify that pod. I'll be using it on an F-4C anyway. -

TSR 2
Rambler 1-1 replied to schepper911's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
does this mean that the TSR-2 will handle like a Lear 45? Just kidding, I know how much more important real flying is compared to simming. I'll bet that going from an islander to a lear is like going from a VW Beetle to a Cadillac CTS, though... -
Future Swedish fighter
Rambler 1-1 replied to darkjak's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
pretty good, but I'd change up the tail fins and engine exhausts, least it look like another F-22 clone. Also, the swedish jet designers seem to be minimalists, and their planes are usually small, light and efficient. otherwise, looks like a perfectly legit 5.5 gen fighter! -
oh, there it is. jeez, too much information!

wow, very nice. One question, though. Is the fan for CPU cooling, or for simulating the slipstream of your open-cockpit planes?

Clean Exhaust Emitter
Rambler 1-1 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
well, I'm fed up with all my planes having purple exhaust, so I decided to go in and replace the DirtyExhaustEmitter and it's .tga with a re-named clean exhaust emitter and it's .tga. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any sign of the clean exhaust emitter. I looked in the efects folder and in all the .cat files, and I can't find it. I was wondering if somebody knew where I could find it, because I don't want to have to extract all the data.inis from the objects .cat just to change one line of script. -

Clean Exhaust Emitter
Rambler 1-1 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
uh, bump, sorta. Anyway, I did a whole new install and added the patch, but nothing else. No weapons pack, no add-on planes. I am playing SFP1 the way that God (TK?) intended, in all it's semi-fictional, 1960s glory. I no longer have to choose between 8 billion different loadouts for a mission, I don't have to worry about MiGs not having the weapons they deserve and there isn't a large chunk of precious HD space dedicated to weapons that I will never use. The best thing, though, is that in this pristine install, the dirty exhaust smoke is not purple, despite my 800x600x16 settings. WAHOO! Anyway, I'm not gonna bother giving myself a headache trying to think of what the guilty file was, but I will say that the above install is the best for extracting the most out of a slow comp. -

AL downloads?
Rambler 1-1 replied to HUNACE's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
yeah, unlike Flight Simulator, any aircraft installed in your game can be flown as AI. If you delete the cockpit and hangar stuff from the aircraft folder and the aircraft ini, it just saves HD space and makes the plane AI-only. -

SAR missions
Rambler 1-1 replied to viperBAT32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
could you not just make a mission where one of the waypoints is at 0 feet and 0 knots, and have a 2 minute loiter time? Then you could land behind enemy lines, although you would have to imagine picking up or dropping off stuff. Anything else would require a major change in the system, would it not? -

The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
Rambler 1-1 replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
the F-4 is definitely a different beast post-patch. No need for airbrakes there, it bleeds speed like nuts. I forced a MiG-21 to overshoot just by pulling as tight a turn as I could on the horizontal. He forced me to. I would have used the phantom's SUPERIOR THRUST, but it seems that the MiGs suddenly have booster rockets or something. I was waxed by a MiG-19 so I dipped down low at 600 knots. He broke off, popped airbrakes and slowed to around 300. Then I pulled up, full burner, and flash-climbed. The MiG caught up to me in a 90 degree climb and almost gunned me down. That means that it went from 300 knots to about 450 knots while climbing straight up. I doubt the real thing can do that, considering that the Phantom slowed down 200 knots in the same climb. don't get me wrong, I like a challenge. My wingie got the -19. -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
Rambler 1-1 replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have to say, the new patch was a bit of a dissapointment for me, but I suppose I should have seen that coming. The only way the game will run now is with everything on low exept for cockpit and object textures on medium. With the settings like this, there are no static aircraft (Frame Rate killers, I'm sure), and the game looks the same as it did pre-patch, exept for pixelated sun effects, a 10-minute loading time and a 5 FPS drop all around. The new features are useless for me because I can't run any add-on planes without insane lag (but the F-105D-25 works fine...?), and the exhaust for all planes is still purple and still exits the tailpipe at a 30 degree angle. That being said, the desert map now has some more interesting bumps to it, the AI is much more able, the flight model is more refined and the new sky, however pixelated, looks good. I have to say that when a new computer finally comes my way, I'll gladly continue to spend my time playing this series. Now I'm off to de-WOI the MF weapons pack and give all my planes the cleaner exhaust. -
False. I dumped her. She wouldn't listen to me anymore. The person below me lives in Bavaria. Ya, Bavaria. Where ze mountains come oot uf ze ground.

the Eagle runs on double A's? gee, i though that I ship of that size would at least need some D-cells... very nice plane and equally nice video, Although I wouldn't have come in that low for a guns pass.
