all right! I can't wait to take on some of these guys now that they'll blow up! great work, and thank you! Also, why not make a red and white bull's eye texture? It'll just speed up the inevitable! -

I always wondered why in TW sims, after you blow any parts off a hapless foe, they tend to pinwheel and piouroette and loop through the air in a flaming acrobatics show the likes of which would not otherwise be possible, and continue to climb and turn and all that with tails, wings and pilots missing, and commonly with no engine either. In real life, it seems that damaged planes usually go in a more or less downward direction, especially if any of the aforementioned articles have ceased to be. However, I always kept my mouth shut, seeing as it was never long before the overly acrobatic stiff either expired in a flaming ball of death or became a deep, smoking crater. Alas, I have now witnessed the apogee of these post-mortem aerobatic displays. I had just blown the tail off a Bf-109 and the first thing it did was flip backwards so it was looking straight at me through my gunsight. Then it flipped again and pulled a gut-wrenching 10-G turn and climbed five thousand feet, accelerating to 250 knots straight up with no engine and a deadstick prop. I hit autopilot and decided to follow this messed-up messerschmitt on it's plunge to death. It climbed up to 20,000 feet (from about 10,000 where I shot it), stalled, and began a series of loops all the way down to it's eventual, albeit abrupt, demise. It would loop about once every 5 or 10 seconds, losing 100-200 feet per loop. It continued on like this for 15 minutes and 19 seconds untill it bodyslammed terra firma. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this, er... happenstance and maybe see if something of this caliber has happened to anybody else. -
So what do you fly?

Improved engines, avionics, weapons and a bunch of other systems (I think- I didn't check or anything). The biggie, though, is the engines. The TF-30s on the F-14 were unreliable and fairly prone to the dreaded compressor stall. The -B had improved engines, Allison turbofans or jets or something (once again that's just off the top of my head.) -

It's on Backwards! gives "backfire" a whole new meaning... -

Mosquito and Hurricane in WW2, Tomcat and A-7 otherwise, and I LOVE the F-100 and A-4. I also like the F-4S, My favorite phantom. And I have been known to use the tornado too, I just love that thing. Fighter variant, please! -

LIES! ALL LIES, I TELL YOU! although we really DO say "zed" instead of "zee". And it's not a "Knit cap" or a "Wool hat", or even a "Took". It's a Toque! -
I'd play, but my internet is so painfully slow that any attempt at multiplayer is futile to say the least.

Well, I'm always trying to free up a bit of room on my comp (it makes SF run smoother), and I've deleted all the programs we don't need/use. However, there is 456.14 MB worth of "Microsoft .NET Framework" that didn't come stock with this comp, my mom installed it because microsoft told her to. It's the Version 2.0 service pack, version 3.0 service pack and version 3.5. I'm wondering If I can delete all those and just leave version 1.1 and the verion 1.1 hotfix, both of which were stock. What exactly does Microsoft .NET Framework do, is it good that we upgraded, can I get rid of it and what will happen if I do? Any and all input is appreciated.
-
it's a lot of stuff for this computer, with it's 20GB hard drive. 450 MB gone is an extra 5-10 fps in the game, or another terrain and a couple more planes. And my antivirus only needs 1.1 hotfix anyway.

every time I got to rent it, it's out! Anyway, I'd much rather pretend to fly on my computer than watch a celebrety pretend to fly in a movie. -
Yeah, but I'm not really interested in doing that kind of stuff... All I really use my comp for is Strike Fighters and MSN
-
Thanks for that, guys. I'm gonna go ahead with deleting all but version 1.1 and 1.1 hotfix, 'cause none of the programs I ever use require .NET stuff. And if things gets worse after I delete it, I'll just download it again.

OH! maybe I would have understood that if I actually saw top gun... No way! I always take care of every enemy before I even think of RTBing. And my wingie didn't even run out of gas either. In fact, he hardly had to do any shooting, it was ME in a SPIT against 2 109s... Can we say "turkey shoot"? Also, the strange part wasn't really the multitude of loops, it was the engineless 250-knot (faster than my spit's cruise speed) powerclimb up to 20 grand. -

I believe the term is "voluntold". I plan on joining the air force anyway, no need to be "volunteered" here.

It's like that in all TW games if you put the flight model to "Normal". All the rudder does is crab the plane, it doesn't turn it like it would in real life if one rudder is held down. I just got used to turning only by banking, because then the plane slips sideways through the air just enough to yaw you and keep your turn coordinated. I only ever use the rudder for complex maneuvers. I'd like to see if this could be corrected, though. Actually, I'm not totally sure if in a real plane the rudder will yaw you all the way around, I'll check on that next time I go flying. -

cool? I'd say it's awesome! I'm not dissing anybody who's running HD, I played on my friend's comp and it was so smooth and clear that I wouldn't stop playing- everything was just so... good! Oh, and congrads on your liscence! I'd give anything to get mine, but I can't even drive legally yet. -
I recall seeing a sign much like this one at a campground across the lake from where I am... I can't remember if it had those exact words, but it wasn't an official sign, it had been put up by some wildlife conservation group or something. It was at Bear Creek Provincial Park.

Performance - ingame frame rates
Rambler 1-1 replied to Liberty24's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
man, I'm getting 20-25 fps on average, sometimes dropping to around 15 in combat situations and even 5 if there's 10+ bombers shooting at me, and I have everything set to "low" exept for "object texture" and Object Detail". I got an ATI card (Radeon 9250) , and even though it still preforms crappy, it's better then before, when it wouldn't run at all. It's my proscessor that's slowing things down, though. If you really need to improve frame rate, customise your graphics settings and reduce everything you don't need (special effects, mirrors, shadows, etc.), and try turning speech subtitles off or turning sound down a couple channels. -
Screenshot of the month idea.
Rambler 1-1 replied to Soulfreak's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I like the rules as they are right now, because it's also a place where one can just post a screenshot that they think is cool, it doesn't have to be "the best". I know that none of my low-res shots will be picked, but I post them anyway because it's a way to get your shots seen. I also like logging on every day to see a fresh, shiny new crop of grade-A pics. -

I like to think that us pilots with slow comps are the purists of the SF community. We don't need HD skins, 3D trees or water shading! That's just extra! All we need are some good-looking, good-flying planes, a place to fly them and some stuff to shoot at! -
wow... reminds me of that spitfire buzz video, but this was a heck of a lot louder, and maybe even closer.

welcome to BC! just sing Bob Dylan songs while hiking, any bears within a mile will be running away at top speed.
