Adding Enemy MiGs
Rambler 1-1 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If I was looking for a suicide mission, that'd be grand. But all I want is a couple different MiGs to shoot at. -
Weapons...is it all about looks?
Rambler 1-1 replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just a thought... but I've found that the Sparrow makes for a decent air to ground weapon. Would it be possible to use it as a starting point and modify the preformance and looks to make a cruser? -
Need help with multiplayer
Rambler 1-1 replied to PIGHUNTA69's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When you install WOV, it should ask you if you want to install Hyperlobby (or in my case, Gamespy), and it should put a shortcut icon on your desktop. Click on this to enter Hyperlobby, and from there you set up multiplayer. That's what I do and it works every time. -
Need help with multiplayer
Rambler 1-1 replied to PIGHUNTA69's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I had that problem after i got a service pack for Strike Fighters. I re-installed and it worked fine. Have you used multiplayer successfully before? You might want to try Gamespy or Hyperlobby. -
What's the best way to kill a mig?
Rambler 1-1 replied to Mannie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yep, they can load the '15 up with as many Iron buckets of sunshine as they want, but it's still an air-to-air plane. I once took out a MiG-17 and a TU-22 with maverics, but no screenshot. Also, if I have an extra sparrow after a fighter sweep, I allways take out a flak cannon or a ship with it. -
Strike Fighters gone Kaputski
Rambler 1-1 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey all, I think I need some help. A couple of years ago, I bought a copy of Strike Fighters Project One (the real one, not the Wal-mart Fiasco version), and I installed it on my computer. It worked fantastically, and I had great fun Kick'n some serious MiG Butt. However, about a year ago, my computer got a virus and had to be re-formatted. After this, I tried to install SF again, but every time, after playing in campagn mode for a while, the game would crash once you clicked the "Fly" button at the hangar screen. I would then delete and re install the game, but every time this would happen, and now it just won't let me fly at all (this also happened whenever I got a game patch or upgrade). What's going on? I really want to be able to play this game again. What should I do? HAAAALLLPPP!!!!! My comp is a dell Demension 2100 with an intel celeron processor and the stock graphics card. it runs Windows XP. I have tried using DirectX 8.1 that is included on the game, and the latest version as well. please tell me if I shuld be asking somewhere else, 'cause I'm kinda new to these forums. Thx! -

YES! I FOUND THE SWEET SPOT! I had one or two really nice dogfights (see "How do you like your MiG?" thread), untill my joystick wonked out... Planes won't bank right anymore! Dang! Anyway, Thanks for all the help, and If I ever have problems with the GAME again, I know who to talk to! -
It looks like a giant aero-leech! would the military version carry bombs in place of the passenger pods?

I'll take mine waxed. Or mashed. (I'm beginning to like the F-14...) -

Tallyho, But I'd rather buy the boxed version. Or just get a Vietnam terrain map for Strike Fighters. -

Rambler 1-1 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just SF. It's good SF, though. I wish I had WOV, but I don't. I don't like the radar wars that are moderen combat sims, and if I waned to fly a bedsheet held together with toothpicks, I'd rather fly one WITHOUT the targets on the wings. And with a more reliable engine. I wouldn't mind a WWII third wire game, but WWII flight sims are monopolised by Microsoft. -
Seahawk is a crap?
Rambler 1-1 replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
wow, it should be called the Undersea hawk. Well, If a plane is an easy target, it should at least have a good ejection system (looks accusingly at the Douglas A3-D). -

...I'm not out of the woods yet... ok, so strike fighters now runs. (YES!!!! ) but now, there's another problem. Whenever I get into a dogfight, or within 0.1 NM of an enemy aircraft in my favorite F-8E (from Column5.us) while over a city, The sim goes all chunky, aka the frame rates drop like an F-4 after a SAM strike. I dropped the ground object detail to minimum, but it's still pretty bad. Also, It runs chunkily ( is that a word?) if I put quality on max. I don't think this $100 video card should do that. Am I expecting too much? Is there anything I can do about this? on the bright side, even if it is chunky, I'm back to slashing MiGs in my Crusader. At lest I can still do that! -
Falling in love with the F-8 Crusader...
Rambler 1-1 replied to F-4PhantomII's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Crusader was allways my plane of choice. I like the way you can just haul it around and get out of any situation, which is usually what I have to do after I run into a gaggle of MiG-21F-13s. Those four guns sure come in handy when I'm making my "slash" kills, but why only 144 rounds, eh? At least my F-8E for SFP1 carries 6 'winders. Somebody should make a skin for the F-8 so it looks like the one from "Area 88" (see here ). -

Bioshock or oblivion? If I played those, I wouldn't be on this site. I can be a person in real life. I CAN'T take out enemy fighters in real life (yet), so I'm forced to fly a desk. I'll track this sucker down and try it out. A million thanks, RWS! -

yeah, I've got the stock onboard video, I think it is an 810e. This looks pretty good, it's not overkill or anything. It has kinda low ratings on that site, though. How reliable is newegg.com for ordering online? I kinda hafta... uhhh.... convince my parents.... heheheh.. Anyway, thanks for the help. -
Most damaged aircraft that remained flyable
Rambler 1-1 replied to Hawk MMS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have a story and a half.... I was flying an escort mission in an F-14 and we ran into a large group (10) of MiG-19s. I got four with 'winders, two with sparrows, then I took a hit and lost the other two sparrows, so I got 2 more MiGs with guns, but then I was out of ammo, or my gun jammed. Not sure which. Anyway, I saw the last MiG was lining up on the last bomber I was supposed to be escorting (out of two-one was now a smoking crater), and I didn't want to put a 'failed mission" on my profile, so I came up fom below on the '19, rolled over and pulled back, and my port wing hit the cockpit while my port vertical stabilizer hit around the engine bay. He blew up promptly, and I went into a bit of a cartwheel, but I still managed to get on approach to base with one wing and one vertical stabilizer, untill I stalled and had to punch out. I died. Bugger! Anyhoo, now I know that neither of these phenomina are unusual. I would have posted my screenshots, but I lost them. Is there a fix so bailing out is more survivable? Dang, that's a long post. is that allowed? -
Anyone want to buy a Dog Sabre
Rambler 1-1 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
My uncle owns an airstrip up in the Yukon... at one point he had an old RCAF T-33, but he could fly it on the warmest days of summer, so he sold it to a museum somewhere. It was a mantinence hog anyway. Imagine owning one of the planes that you fly in your flight sims! -
The Hunter or Hunted?
Rambler 1-1 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I got into a fight identical to that, 'sept with my F-8E VS an MiG-21Bis. And we used the vertical A LOT more. I would have posted my screenshots, but they're long gone... I won! -

I'm afraid a new computer, as much as I'd enjoy it, is out of the question. My comp has four PCI (NOT PCI express) buses that run at 33MHz each. I put in another RAM card, so there's 512 MB RAM now. I'm probably looking for somthing in the $100 range, because, like you said, any more than that and I may as well get a new comp. I've come to thinking that anything would be better than what's in there now. what other info might you need? -

yeah, my video card is pretty close to that. I have a choice of getting a new video card or this machine or getting an older machine with a better processor (pentum 3). Now my question is, how high end a vid card will i need? 256megs? 128megs? what do you guys run? I can only get PCI cards for this thing.
