Ship missile launchers
sugarblues replied to Wraith27's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hinch, Yup - Seaslug's one and only "real" firing was in the closing days of the Falklands conflict... but I can't recall if it actually hit anything, but I'm told that it made one heck of an impressive light show in flight... I can't say for certain if your Seaslug is used in the Falklands campaign (SFP Version)... I've flown all the way through that add-on a number of times, but I can't say I ever noticed the ships shooting at anything, I've been too busy trying to catch raiders attacking the fleet! SB -

Geeze Hinch... Many of my Dark Blue friends would simply say Seaslug and Seacat "were a shame"... (Sorry, couldn't resist!) It would be nice to play the Falklands campaign and have the counties blasting away with Seaslug... (Woosh.... BANG!... Hey look, it hit something!!!) sb -
Favorite Mods, Aircraft of 2008
sugarblues replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, it's a cop-out, but I really can't point at any one mod and say "that one's better" than so many of the others. Remember our "Christmas in November" with the deluge of new releases ? When you stop to think about it, 2008 was a banner year, and the modders themselves have constantly kept raising the bar. The work being released "as a matter of course" nowadays is simply superb. The Voodoo's are a work of art, but so is Skippy's Wyvern, Bobrocks AV-8 and just about anything else. I've spent more time in the MF's F-8's than anybody should expend on a computer - and everytime I go into external view I still think "Man... this is beautiful work!". Terrains - it's almost like we can fly anywhere we want today - and like Dave said at the begining, TREES!!!! And not to forget the folks who keep creating interesting and varied ways we can get shot down with new SAM's, missles, and even better looking tracer... So instead of saying "I like this better than everything else" I have to say "I can't believe we're lucky enough to enjoy a hobby where so many people sweat blood and tears for my enjoyment - AND FOR FREE!" So I'd say my fav for 2008... the Modders themselves... Period. SB -
I have a conffesion to make

...In WoV my flight of Crusaders had been tasked with Flak Suppression... I F-8'd and had a look-see to get the lay of the land, all the time in a shallow dive while fumble-fingers the pilot (ah, that's me...) tried to figure out the right attack angle. Of course, the black puffs are all over the place, and we really shouldn't be hanging around... I finally decide it's the right time and place to roll in, and as usual, I order wingie to to "attack my target", which, in best brown-shoe tradition he does. Of course, in all my wandering around trying to decide what to do, wingie had been trying to stay in position. When I ordered him to attack he dropped his Mk.82's... right on top of me... it actually took me a while to figure out what had happened, until I finally discovered in the mission log that I'd been taken out by a Mk.82 while at around 5000ft! Then of course, there's the mission I flew last night, that included a nasty monster known only as "Cumulo Granite"... good ole fumble fingers managed to fly right smack dab into the middle of a very, very large rock... how do you spell target fixation ? ECM vs Gainful...
sugarblues replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've usually been okay with avoiding Gainfuls, but I'm presently flying a modified Persian Gulf campaign and the bloody Grizzlies keep swatting me like flies... I haven't found a way to get away from those monsters yet! SB -

Difficulty? Is it this easy?
sugarblues replied to slybelle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Do you have invulnerability set to on ? It isn't that easy after the latest patches, the AI has gotten much better over the years, and the SAM are pretty good too... I'd go through your gameplay settings one by one and have a look! And if it isn't set that way - maybe you're much better than you give yourself credit! :-) SB -

Here's one nobody seems to have thought of... What about a Gannet! Either an AS1 or AS4 or an AEW3... just to see that crazy wingfold working would be a treat! Skippy... can we tempt you? :-) SB -
F-14 Skin problems
sugarblues replied to Tantobot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just download the low-viz skins for the F-14A, and then edit the decal.ini inside each skin folder to point to the F-14B or D as required. Remember we're really just making A model Tomcats behave like B's and D's, they actual aircraft model is really an A. SB -
STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
sugarblues replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
...as I said a couple of days ago, if TK makes it, I'll buy it. Bought it, installed it in my XP rig, downloaded Novembers DX 9 update, and took a Scooter for a spin. Nice cockpit... 20 bucks well spent in my book, but to my tiny mind, that's a tiny price to pay for all the enjoyment I get out of Wo*... A nice Christmas present! SB -
Iran/Iraq Map and Carriers
sugarblues posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hi All, Has anybody managed to add a carrier station to the Iran/Iraq map ? I've got all my carriers showing up okay, but my aircraft are blowing up on the deck as soon as the mission opens... Any tips or ideas to try would be appreciated. I'm running a fully-patched version of SFP1... Carrier Ops are working in all the other terrains I've got installed - it's only the Iran/Iraq one where I just can't get things going. Landing is okay, but I miss my cat shots! SB -

Iran/Iraq Map and Carriers
sugarblues replied to sugarblues's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Thanks guys... AllenJB: Yup - Iran was in the map as friendly, so I took the easy way out instead of manually changing every entry in the terrain files... Everything is working perfectly - too perfectly as I keep getting whacked by swarms of IRIAF F-5E's (that's embarrassing!). Only issue, is I can't take off from the boats. Landing works well, just take offs... I'll keep messing around, SB -
Iran/Iraq Map and Carriers
sugarblues replied to sugarblues's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
...I wonder if this has anything to do with the problem we had that surfaced with the October patch where carrier ops stopped working ? I've added Gonzo station in the Persian Gulf with the USN going against the IRIAF. I for some reason was forced to make the USN the enemy side to get the squadrons to work out on the correct sides, if I set USN as friendly nothing worked. Once I switched, at least all the objects show up properly, the only issue is that my aircraft explode on the carrier deck upon opening a mission. Any help at all would be appreciated! SB -
bizarro campaign editing error
sugarblues replied to eraser_tr's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I had the same problem with the modded Iran/Iraq campaign I asked about yesterday where my aircraft keep blowing up on the carrier. I created Gonzo station in the Persian Gulf and added a USN carrier group - and when I selected an IRIAF campaign, I'd end up with a USN Tomcat instead of the IRIAF one... I solved it by being forced to change the allegiance - making USN ENEMY instead of friendly. Check to make sure your RAF squadron's base is on the correct side of the lines using one of the mission editors... All the squadron assignments etc. were okay in the campaign and data_ini's - but until I changed the allegiance I kept getting this error. Maybe it'll work for you... SB -

...Wouldn't you know it, this months copy of Scale Aviation Modeler has an article on the Lightning; in it, it confirms that the Kuwaiti Lightnings were a close match to the Saudi configuration. Sadly, it also says that they didn't fare very well in Kuwaiti service, suffering from major serviceability problems, and were retired rather quickly... SB -

sugarblues replied to hi ho silver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If I recall correctly, the ground attack configuration was unique to the Saudi Lightnings - the RAF always kept them a pure fighter. I could be wrong though... SB -

how to add gunpod?
sugarblues replied to zmatt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Check the names of the files; if I remember correctly, I argued with the gunpods for the MB-339 for about an hour before I realized that the file names didn't match. Check to ensure the actual folder name matches what's in the weadondata. SB
