This is good news, I've been waiting for a sale. I think that I will get the Huey and perhaps FC3 so that I can finally have every title under the DCS World envirionment. I been with the Flanker/LOMAC/FC series since its Flanker beginnings, and I have purchased each iteration of it since. I was put off at the list price for FC3 upon release. But now I might endulge.

Hey guy, can anyone recommed a good popup ad program? I am currently using STOPZILLA and so far it's pretty good, but it's only an evaluation copy. i went to best buys, and theres a tone of software out there in all the various price ranges 29.00 thru 89.00. before my eval time expires, can some one recommend a package that dosen't break the bank but does a decent job? Thanks in advance BirdDogg.

Yes Nesher, The Marines are a Department of the Navy. Our Budget is directly attached to thiers. I was an active Marine for 6 years. The history goes way way back as far as Marines serving on ships as security forces. Check out the Movie Masters and Commanders and you'll see a good portrayal of the historic role of a Marine. Looks like he'll be heading down my way (near NAS Solomans Island) to hook-up with C.J Martin. Good Luck Matt, I'm sure Eagle Dynamics will take it from here. BirdDogg. -

Okay Lomac I Apologize!

Well, I was frustrated with this Sim for a minute or two, (FPS, General Performance, Lack of New-ness as compared to Flanker 2.5). However; l've managed to get it tweaked a little better. I had an amazing Cap\Dogfight with a flight F-16s (my wing, flying the Mig-29S) last night over the mountain region, using short range missles and Guns. (Love the terrain masking feature!). What a blast!, my average skilled wingie wasn't much help, so I started using him as pop-up bait for some Nap of the Earth type bracket maneuvers :D , But an excellent CAP\DogFight none-the-less. (Oh the nugget AI survived BTW). This was pretty exciting for mixed reasons; first, LOMAC actual suspended reality with no noticable stutter, for the first time (I felt, I was there :) ; second-ly, I'm more of an Iron Hand\Strike Mission kinda guy, but found myself totally engrossed with my flight and flight management. I think next I'll add some SAMs to the same senerio. So, although LOMAC needs a patch, (like thats News :D ) and some additional aircraft would be nice, I see a good future for this one. Though I never bashed it, I still gotta eat alittle crow for shelving it earlier. BirdDogg. BirdDogg. -
Quick question: Re-installing SFP1, does Service Pack 2 contain fixes of the first patch? Or, should I install the patches in the order of release? Thanx in advance BirdDogg

Well here I go again, First off let me start by saying that I have been a Flanker player for a long time, to me LOMAC picks up where Flanker left off. The guys at UBI Soft put some work into this Sim and for that I am grateful. Plainly said: I'm not *feelin* LOMAC, maybe after it's patched and more mature, but for now I don't care that much for the beast. My systems falls at the middle of the road when it comes to the posted box specifications. but no joy in getting good FPS even turn down low. To know that I get simular FPS then others with much more machine behind the game makes me really raise an eyebrow (Think Mr. Spock facial expression after Dr. McCoy says something really human ;) ). After being a Flanker Flyer, and IL2-er, I'm quite tired of the Crimea, Can't help but feel that some other Map area would bring to me a feeling of getting a new game. The old arguement of the Plane selection stick outs, I'm realy wishing for something more on the Mud Moving side, the A-10 just dosen't do it for me. The Su-25 is nice but the Soviet Avionics as modeled, makes you wonder how effective their stuff is. The last three Sims I purchase IL2\FB, SFP1, LOMAC I 'm so far 1 out of 3. and what sucks is that I'm really not into WWII stuff, but the Sim (IL2) is just a hard act to follow. I cannot understand how a developemnt house can put out two titles with such differing performance levels (Granted, I'm aware that it's 2 different development Teams). Have you ever flown the Jets in Il2? guess what, they feel and fly like Jets! Don't get it twisted folks this is not to bash LOMAC or UBI at all, but LOMAC isn't what I wanted or hoped. I like Jet flying better in IL2, and much as I dislike the SFP1 Patch2 situation, I can at least say I get decent respectable FPS. What is modeled, or over-modeled in LOMAC that scews it up FPS-wise?, it's not the Avionics. Well, once again This one does little for me that Flanker didn't already do, Great DogFights, lite on the Air to Ground, Same thing with SFP1, So for me there's just not enough of the action, plane mix, or suspension of reality (due to FPS issues) I'm looking for. Not a Rant, Whine, Bash, or Complaint, just and opinion. last I checked we were still entitled to those Happy Holidays BirdDogg

Lomac Shelved
BirdDogg replied to BirdDogg's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I'm sure LOMAC will mature and become a classic Sim. UBI and Eagle Dynamics will more then likely support LOMAC with patches and additions for some time to come. For me, after owning Flanker 2.0/5 there's just not a heck of alot I feel that's new. Granted the Sounds are one of the biggest improvements! Graphics are nicer. I've been able to use my Flanker Manual to operate LOMAC and I'd say that about 90% of the control keys are the same, not a bad thing mind you. But take away the A-10 and F-15 and the plane set is about the same as 2.5 (I had the fake Su-35 addon). Once again not a bad thing, but not a new thing (for me, or other Flanker fliers). I'm pretty sure that an FA-18 is going to come to LOMAC in the future, that will be a welcome addon since the sense of speed is over all better than Janes FA-18 IMHO, but there again; it's been done already. Give us something new, Try Marine aviation, put in the Harrier and WASP to land it on, put in the YAK-141. We have the whole Crimea penninsula which one would think warrants' an amphibious operation (simulation\campaign) of some sort. LOMACs on my harddrive and will be there, for sometime unlike another sim *cough* Strike Fighters *cough* but until some more atmospheric changes\enhancements are iron-out and added, I just can jump up and down with excitement about this one. That said, I await LOMACs true arrival, and I believe it will get here! BirdDogg. -

Anyone Using The X-45 With Lomac?
BirdDogg replied to zagnut's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I use the X45, I've not had the problem your talking about though. What you can try is: Go to your LOMAC dir on your harddrive select your Input directory(for controllers) I believe it's Lomac\bazar\Input or Control, and right-click the diretory folder, and uncheck the read only box. make sure to apply this change to all files. This should allow you to save your input changes. Hope this helps BirdDogg. -
Chief Your lookin sharp... for a Squid :D (Navy\Marine thing for those who maynot know) BirdDogg.

Something I Notice About Frame Rates
BirdDogg posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I finally got this thing working on a dual boot rig, and being a Flanker-ite of some years it was easy for me to start cranking out custom mission. Here's what I found, the stock missions run good, however I had noticable lags and some slow down spots. I re created the mission (to a degree) in the editor and found that; missions made on my rig have very, very little lag at all and run much smoother than the stock mission. I do know why but they do. Also I'm find that on my meager AMD 1.4 with 512mb DDR and a in-exspensive G-Force FX 5200 (dx-9 compliant) series vid card, I can run with most setting to full (except Water) and get a steady and decent 25FPS 1024x resolution, not too bad me thinks, this is also with AA set at 2x. Unfortunately I can't remember exactlyl how I tweaked it (I did so much) but I created about 5 different mission with the same results in FPS even down in the weeds firing weapons, (except alot of rockets at once). I say all this to say, do not judge your performance by the canned missions!!! I hope this info helps. System specs. AMD 1.4 512 mb DDR Win 2000 Pro G-Force FX 5200 (dx-9 Compliant) Sound Blaster Live Siatek X45. BirdDogg -
