System Specs when reporting Bugs
BirdDogg posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I just thought after looking at a couple of the post here and elsewhere, that it maybe more helpful to TK and crew if we post our basic specs. The Gamming rig on my network is a WIN98SE (because it's gammer friendly) I've been using the Gold Strike Fighters Ver 10.11.02 and have not had a single crash, lockup, in now some eight hours of play (haven't tried Multiplay yet but no Campaign crashes) No joystick mapping issues either. other than the noted keymap bugs. So while we're all trying to be helpful in Identifying bug, let's remember to add those Sys specs they could prove to be important IMHO :) Sys: AMD 1.4 256 DDR2100 WIN98SE (latest drivers) LeadtekG-Force2 Pro 64MB (non updated drivers) Saitek X45 USB (basic Direct X drivers) SGE sucks! Hey Injun, nothing to be sorry about man :) , I just want our group here, to be as helpful as we can to TK and Crew, so we can get this thing fixxed up ASAP, so we can get on to what's really important . BirdDogg. 8) -

BirdDogg replied to Vex's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Vex, I've got an X45 setup, every button I mapped worked fine. But I would follow what MADJEFF said and map them in Notepad. BTW, I'm running this on a WIN98SE platform, What OS are you usiing? it maybe the difference. BirdDogg. -

Su-39 dropped from flyable list, now AI only
BirdDogg replied to Hogpen13's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Okay, it's understandable (the why part), but what truly sucks here is that the SU-39 is the Navalized variant of the 25. If you fly Flanker 2.51,there is a flyable (user-made SU-39) but you can't land it on the deck. and it's not a dead-on model to begin with, but challanging none the less. The Naval part of Flanker was/is suppose to be ported over to LOMAC, so the ability to land on the Carrier is/was still present, to my understanding. So, if your like me and wanted this bird for it's carrier ops value, then this is really sad news -

TK, I haven't had a single CTD yet, but I haven't entered the Campaign (not sure if theres any there). I was playing and jumping around the interface for over 4 hours last night and not one CTD. System Specs: AMD 1.4, 256DDR, G-Force 2 Pro WIN98SE, SoundBlaster Live. BirdDogg. -

BirdDogg replied to Denzil's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Good catch Denzil, I haven't seen that one yet. Have ya seen the one in the A-4, where the Pilots Oxygen mask comes through the side of the wind screen? BirdDogg 8) -

Mud Moving and damage effects
BirdDogg replied to BirdDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
PC Pilot, I Played it for four straight hours last night, using the different aircraft, after some fine tuning (button mapping and graphics tweaks) I can now say it is a Very, Very nice Sim. Notes: Comms: Very Nicely done, can't say enough about them :D Stability: Not a single CTD in over 4 hours of play. :D Flight Models: Love'em :D Sounds: Good, could be a little more powerful on the explosion :? This Sim so far, is what I hoped USAF would've been out of the box. That said, PCPilot, I hope you were able to get a copy. Once again TK and Crew if your reading this I applaud you and your Teams efforts in developing this Sim, you have a Classic in the making here! Happy Hunting BirdDogg. System Specs: AMD 1.4, G-Force2 Pro, 256 DDR2100, SoundBlaster Live Windows 98SE Saitek X45 HOTAS -
Mud Moving and damage effects
BirdDogg replied to BirdDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
PC Pilot, here's my run down on the ground: Graphics are nicely done. The textures are pretty clean and do not look tiled IMHO. I haven't had it long enough to give it a review, just some immediate observations. As for getting it?, I'd say it's your call, I will say this though, I will not be returning my copy :) However there's still some unfinished business to be handled and I'm sure TK and Crew will address them, keep the faith. I've been used to more ground invironment (Falcon, USAF, IL2, even Janes WWII fighters) along with special effects. So far, in Project 1 we have effects, but the special is not there :( Don't get me wrong this is by no means a bashing, cause there's nothing really to harp on with this sim (outside of the AAA/SAMS) just some things that I feel are, or should be standard given the age and maturity of the Combat Sim Genre. It will take a patch or two to get things up to par. I remember when I bought Janes USAF, outta the box it was barely playable with the dorked-up Flight models! And we all know the Falcon 4.0 road to success  *whew.. wipes forhead* Baring those and others *cough, Gunship cough* that came before in mind, Strike Fighters is on par with everyone else IMHO. Get it, explore it, enjoy it for what it is and IHMO what it will be! Good Luck with your choice BirdDogg. -
List of most common bugs found so far
BirdDogg replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just re-read MJ's post above and had to completly edit mine *does a Homer and smacks forehead "Doh"* Can't say if this is a bug or not, but I was flying the F-100; and while in external view I hit the "H" key and a hook lowered, Hittng the key did not make it retract. I never knew that the F-100 was Navalised. No nose wheel turning when taxing (" I know MJ you said no whinning") but thess are minor issues/bugs that are probably an ease to fix. BirdDogg. 8) -

Lucky you, I got caught up in all kinds of work this weekend so I didn't get and opportunity to search it out yet, maybe later this week. But I hope like hell to have by the weeks end * Steps back into the shadows, shaking his fist and grinding his teeth with envy! * BirdDogg. :x -

For those who have it, or anyone who knows, does Project 1 have a mission Editor? And while on the topic, My favorite mission Editor of all time has got to be the one included in the Janes USNF/Anthology series. Being able to place individual objects, assigning object way-points, and attributes I thought was handle nicely for a survey type sim. I built some pretty interesting mission (IMHO). Why have most developers not adapted an approach to mission Editors like the above mentioned. Falcon 4, Janes F-18 have good editors. But I would like to see Project 1 with a simular Editor as the earlier EA/Janes series Opinions? BirdDogg. 8)

Damn MJ, You got good review up pretty quick, you da man! Good points in the review too about the earlier era fighters and thier huds, and the lack over super-imposed info. Personally I was getting over loaded with info, maybe why IL2 and flanker are so nice for me (not being a prop buff) but I love to dogfight guns and IR's only ("keep your friends close and your enemies closer") BirdDogg. 8) -
F111 for SFP1?
BirdDogg replied to Seawolf's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the clarification about the (S3/S2) Seawolf, as I think back on it I remember reading something like that you posted on Combatsim long, long ago. I always thought that Anti Submarine Warfare was something that was left out in the Sim world. I know Janes FA-18 has the capabilty to make the type of mission. But you cannot use the (true) S-3 with it's capability only a S-3 skin on a F18 flight model. I'm a Medium Core Simmer by nature but I do like my avionics on occassion :) Good seeing you around agian, BTW where have you been? BirdDogg. 8) -
Mission Editor?
BirdDogg replied to BirdDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks TK, that excellent news. I think I'll wait for the planned editor. But my hats off too you and your crew because this sim is going to be a classic, I just feel it! Thanks agian TK. BirdDogg. -

yeah not here yet either happy hunting i guess BirdDogg. -
Injun, Jeff, I agree with that the Sim Community Forums have been in morale decline here in the past months. It's funny that MadJeff created this site just as I was getting fed up with some of the others. Me myself I'm not really a political view point person, so you won't see those types of post from yours truly. My common bond to the community is that I am a Flight Simmer, I love aviation and I like to converse with people whom happen to share the same hobby. Simply respect, and respond to others in the way you like to be treated and you will never have a problem. So far this group here is doing just fine. "Man I love you guys ) see ya all around BirdDogg.

Preliminary Review
BirdDogg replied to Injun_01's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
cool, await your review BirdDogg 8) -
Denzil, I don't know if you got the X45 or not yet, But I have it and use it on a Window 98SE system SGE drivers for about a year now and I must say I'm in Love with this setup. No my rotaries are not programmed but I can live with that one day Saitek may publish a fix. I have mapped buttons in Faclcon 4, FA-18, IL2 and Mech Warrior 3/4. I don't do many FPS. I had A SideWinder Pro, and a Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D prior to my Saitek and I woud not go back! Good Luck with your choice man BirdDogg. 8)

F111 for SFP1?
BirdDogg replied to Seawolf's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Seawolf, If they could figure out the side by side pit, I too would love to see the Ardvark, But also and for me more-so I'd like to see an A-6 Intruder and believe it or not an S-3 Viking. (by the way throw in a Flat top of the era like the uSS Ranger or the Forrestal) Okay okay I know Project 2 stuff. :D BirdDogg.
