I Got It......
BirdDogg replied to "Instigator"'s topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Okay here's what I found, Got home last night loaded Win 2000 as a seperate OS, left the File Alacation Table at Fat 32, just like my 98SE, changed nothing else. Loaded LOMAC and low and behold It's working. I tried all the planes, I get a in-cockpit graphic glitch with F-15, But everything else is fine in the out of plane view. All other aircraft no problems noted. I knew this would be a sweet Sim, I've been a Flankerite for years and it's seems to be the enhancement that sim always deserved! I had no problem running the demo on the 98 side so all I can say to those who do not have the option right this minute to uprade to 2000 or XP, be patient (I know that sucks to hear (ie strike fighters patch 2 :D ). Matt and his folks will be on this I'm sure. it's not a OS system problem maybe a simple DLL issue. Anyway I hope this helps, now I'm going to go lock myself in my Think-Tank(basement) for the rest of the day with LOMAC! Good luck guys. BirdDogg. *Fumbles for spec sheet* System Specs: AMD 1.4 266 FSB 512 MB DDR Win 98/2000 Gforce FX 5200 (I know it sucks but I'm on a budget :) ) Runs MUCH better then the demo! LOMAC FPS 21/35 (depends on where you are) settings at mixed medium to low. Water low, mirrors off. surprizingly enough I got better rates on my rig with AA on 4x, go figure? BirdDogg B) -

Well I can can get it to run sometimes on my home 98se box, but most of the time I get it to either load to the main menu with no prolem but as soon as I hit fly It loadsthe data, and then boom, it's back to desktop with ddhelp error or something. I have a DVD-CD-ROM (read only) drive, and a seperate CD-RW, same results either drive. Here at work I got running on Win 2000 systems but since we've got the crappiest Vid cards here, I can't say how it will do when I get back home. Fortunately Win 2000 will install directly over Win 98, (XP will Not). So I might try that this evening when I get home. or like I said earlier, dual boot the rig. My main concern is I think I've got Win 98 only stuff to check before I completely drop it. Plus I kinda like it. BirdDogg. -

Hey Seawolf, I think I pegged it, I'm testing it here at work as I type this. My suspitions are somewhat confirmed, although far from conclusive. I have a wide range of operating systems here to load it on, and so far the only one choking on it, is the Win 98se box. I'll continue to see what I can do before Ubi addresses it which I know they will do, that's a Top Notch Crew over at Ubi Soft! they will nail the issue soon I'm sure. Gotta run buddy I'll post any other findings later today. BirdDogg. B) -

I purchased it yesterday, Unfortunately I'm in the White Screen CTD Club. I saw on on of the other forums that this thing was not tested on the Win 98's. I'm testing now on a win 2000 platform to see if I need a dual operating system to run on, funny because I was running the Demo with no issues. BirdDogg. -

Serious Question For Those In The Know.
BirdDogg replied to Seawolf's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion

Many of you may remember the Sim US Navy Fighters and the Marine Fighters Addon, well that's where I wanted start. I would love to see a Flight Sim that would model and be based upon a MEU, (Marine Expeditionary Unit). I remember a Sim called Flying Nightmare II was trying do something like that, but it went the way of vaporware as far as I know. I would Love to see a developer model an AV8-B along with V-22 and place the setting on a USS Essex Class Ship\Amphibious Battle Group. The Harrier AV8-B, while not being the most nimble or fastest fighter available; has the making for a great simulated airframe due too it's unique VTOL, and All Weather capibilities. And it does have a heck of a punch! Jane's Marine Fighters Addon did a pretty good job in modeling these features; however needless to say the sim is dated in most respects. Along with a Good F-14 Sim, this would be my most requested Sim (LOCKON excluded). Seems to me Naval/Marine Aviation makes for better simulation content because of carrier-bourne aircraft, which makes invasion missions\building a dream! Just my thoughts, how bout yours? BirdDogg.

A RAF based Sim would be a cool a$$ sim to see developed too! I've always wanted to fly British\European Fighters. Throw in a Dasault Fighters Series as an add-on to an RAF and Royal Navy based simulation, and I'm never leaving house!!! :D I think this thread is starting to prove the opposite to FlightSims being dead? There's definately no lack in Flight Sim Content just developer vision maybe?:( (LOMAC, IL2 and P1 exempt) Anywho, would love to see these types of Sims on somebodies drawing board. BirdDogg B)

Calling Mrmudd...a-10 Question
BirdDogg replied to Beta's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yeah, what he said :) -
MrMudd, I hope it pans out! I think that a MAGTAF/MEU gives us the best opportunity to create coastal invasion mission. Combined with a good mission editor and maps (coastal regions) and you have the makings for some serious Sim time! Coupled with the fact that you would be engrossed with supporting troops directly, as real life Marine Pilots do. (not to say other forces pilots don't.) Marine Pilots are stationed very near their ground-force-counterparts by design, giving them a more envolved feel for the ground war; and faster air support reaction times that's what the VTOL is all about. The only Sim I ever got that feeling in was Janes FA-18 when I created Landing Force type mission. I would go Ape$h!t over a dedicated Amphibious Warfare Sim which just has not occurred yet. While there are countless F-16 Sims, a few F-18 and a dozen WWII Sims out there. no developer yet has taken on the Harrier or the F-14. (Complex yes, but not impossible to do and do well). They say Flight Sims are dying, but I have to believe that Sims like LOMAC with a Naval/Amphibious Addons could bring the genre back with a vengence! BirdDogg.

Breaking News! To Old Anthology Fighter People (an
BirdDogg replied to Eagle114th's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I might have spent more time in this Sim than just about any other next to F-119 and Falcon 4. I'm looking foward to see where this goes. Chief I got it, but unfortunately I will never part with it. I do however have the original US Navy Fighters, Marine Fighter Addon USAF additon and the Nato Fighters addition before they released USNF 97, then Fighter Anthology. The only draw back is that Before USNF 97, they all required a DOS boot disk! Now if you or anyone can find out/knows whether or not this has become abandon-ware or not and send me a link stating the fact, I might be able to give you a copy of mine. but not without knowing of course. However; if it's abandon-ware you may certainly have a copy. PM me. BirdDogg. -
This is the best sim community! BioHaz is the place I visit most, because the community is civilized, has class, and stays away from the picky, picky crap. Most of us here seem to just generally enjoy simming, and rarely do you get the superior attitudes about my sims better than your's junk. or I know more about these switches than you. none of that nonsense here. In general, Biohazard members/family are the best self-policed people on the web! my thoughts have always been... that if a place is nice and classy.... that's just the type that will show up! MJ and the Biohazard Family, my hat's off to us! B) BirdDogg.

Man those look good Dude! Nice work. BirdDogg. -
Wish I had checked here earlier, Hurricane Isabell knocked out my old G-force 2 Ultra, so I just ran out to get something as a place holder, Found A G-force 5200FX ($89.00 with $10.00 rebate) (I knew it was Low end but I needed something FAST!). Anyway beleive it or not, it isn't that bad, I've been using it in all my games and although I will be replacing it around the Holidays it's more than enough for now, and Out performs my old card by leaps and bounds. I'm Even getting decent FPS with the LOMAC Demo settings = Custom, some Med to high to Low (avg 21FPS except for down in the weeds). T he main thing I don't like is that there's no cooling fans on this series. So far However it has not shown any problems. and it will make a good back up. It is DX9 compliant though. Still I do want That ATI 9500. Cheers BirdDogg.

Patch
BirdDogg replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I must say; I want this Sim to Succeed PERIOD. I been wainting for this era of Jet for a long time. I fire it up about once a week. but some of the issues it has I just can't get pass. I know, I know, it's been said before. Personally if it were fixed, between SFP1, IL2 and Falcon 4, I'd dump all my other Sims. BirdDogg. -
Patch
BirdDogg replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
"like i said there WIll be a 2nd patch..and a word of caution-DON'T try to stir up trouble in this thread.as long as the posts stay civil it'll stay open,if not it will disappear." Dagger, excuse me if you will, but no one is trying to stir up trouble or anything else, this is BioHazard, not SimHQ. even though you are a Moderator, there's no need to threaten to close a thread. Biohazard has always had a pretty decent crowd. You will find little too no flaming or bickering here.. (differences of opinions.. sometimes). MJ has always managed to run a clean ship here (heck, I've been here almost from the beginning.) That said, I would suggest you lighten up on the caution-ing trigger until there's trully a need for them ( reading this thread it is unwarranted as compared to other Simulation forums); it tends to sets the wrong presidence within this community. It implies us/I/anyone, to be some unruley bunch in need of heavy Handed Opinionated Moderation; which is surely not the case here. I don't post as often as others, but I ghost daily and I cannot remember a time when this board's owner has cautioned anyone in this SF forum to lock a thread due to uncivilized or inflamatory remarks. Just a suggestion in reference to Civil Moderation. :) PM if you'd like. BirdDogg. -
Patch
BirdDogg replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I hear ya Snapple, I'm just venting, and I'll tell ya, anyone who's purchased this Sim will immediately see how good it can really be! if it's just tweaked! But it shoud not have taken this amount of time to do that. I don't desire a rebuild just at least fix the hosed up single player stuff. The multiplayer should be another patch (sorry about that multi play fans :) ) BirdDogg. -
Patch
BirdDogg replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yah, I spent a few years in the Marines and did several pumps on the USS Guam, so I can understand the waiting in line scenerio as Chief discribed. Still does not change the fact that this is becoming pain in the rear-end, when you've purchase something that you can't quite use as it should be outta the box. Now your on someone else's time as to when it will be operable as advertised. I'm not TK bashing at all, but I would really like to Fly Strike Fighters. If TK himself would pop in and say something that would be better then the silence. And I don't need a Beta tester coming in telling me or anyone else about: (it's coming, I've been hearing that BS for almost a year now) I think after about a year of waiting its somewhat safe to say that patience and tolerance is running extremely low. Now all that said, I have no choice but to wait until it's out thats the plain truth, however; I will never Purchase from Strategy First. They rank right up there with Xicat! and TK if your reading this as a purchaser of your work I think I'm due a response! Flame away, it does not matter because if you've purchased this sim and your not a Modder or a Beta Tester, than your just as screwed as I am. BTW: I'm not angry but very disapointed about the current status of this Patch 2 situation. BirdDogg. -

BirdDogg replied to TrashMan=JW='s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Why not just release the single player fix, or whatever he's got to date, it's gotta be better than what we have now. Patience is one thing but this had gotten bad. I don't think that people would care much about the patch if this sim were Junk but it's not it should be classic. That's why it's so dissapointing the longer one has to wait to get back into it Just my opinion. BirdDogg. -
I just don't know if I can trust this software company agian. I bought the repackage Hornet ie: PSF, and I wasted $39.99. Don't get me wrong it still the top notched Hornet, but I coulda save some bucks. I think I'll wait for the reviews before jumping in this time. BirdDogg
