AntiVirus reporting TR-DropperGen
themightysrc replied to HomeBoy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
" its possible the exe became infected on the end user PC but I am not discounting anything" Surely an exe is machine code? How can a virus get into it? Or am I mistaking the nature of a .exe file? Have to agree with Erik - get a proper browser like Firefox. Downloaded 1.32g, no problems, but will fire up the free AVG thing later today and report back if it finds anything it considers dubious, but I'm pretty doubtful... Cheers, Si -

Well, nice to see another satisfied customer! I'll be there tomorrow at 7pm GMT. Still time for others to get into this - come on chaps, you know you want to... -
Hi RD, I had to dive off to go to a party after 7.30ish, so I didn't get to find out if Duck had got you sorted - glad he did. So now you've tried it - imagine what it'll be like flying with a bunch of people from both here and the US. See you later (I'll be the one with the awful TS connection and the inability to fly/shoot things down). Cheers, Si

Hi BirdDog, thanks for those hints - I suspect you're right about the AGP card. Damn those mobo makers who didn't fit PCI-Express! A must for my next rig...and a f*** off Nvidia card to, methinks. I'll try mucking about with the ATI settings - I only found them very recently (doh!) so I'll see what delivers improvements. Checked on all the other stuff, and I think our setups are similar in respect to vertex and messages (all dealt with). I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers, Si -
RD, If you want to get the best out of the experience, make sure you've got 'phones and a mike (oh, and TrackIR, but that's a given!). See you Sunday! Cheers, Si

Wow this game is brilliant - a few quick questions
themightysrc replied to jaa's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Jaa, Whereabouts are you in Blighty? Olham collects names and locations and is lovingly/painstakingly updating his OFF Map Of The World with everyone's location. Thinking about it, it might be handy next time I'm travelling internationally. I quite fancy the idea of saying hello/having a beer with other OFFers... -
Looks like more interest is being generated, therefore..... BUMP!!!

European multiplayer

"I would like a go a multiplayer sometime (I am in the UK). But I havehad the game less than a week and I bite-wind at the moment. I'll getsome practice in and join you soon." Jaa, Fab idea - nip over to the MP folder and check out the latest Vasco thread. He da bomb, as the young persons say. If you chat to him, he'll be able to steer you right. As for getting practice in, well, I'm a completely rubbish pilot and shot and I had a great time on my first MP sesh. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know on here or via PM. Cheers, Si -

Next OFF Add On Plane unveiled!

"I suppose the obvious question has to be "Why make a Biplane Hurricane?" " Well, I suppose it was just in case the lower wings fell off: then it would simply continue to fly. -
Increasing OFF Performance
themightysrc replied to The_Black_Knight's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hi all, I've been meaning to post on here for some time. Basically, I've been looking enviously at screenshots that other people have posted who have (allegedly) less capable rigs than mine, but whose graphical output seems to be somewhat better than what I see when I'm flying. Here are the pertinent bits: Processor: 2 X intel pentium D820s (2.8mhz x 2) 2048 mb DDR-SDRAM ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro AGP (512mb) 3D settings (via the ATI menu - I've not buggered about with these (yet)): Anti aliasing - application managed (on), 2x, 4x Anisotropic filtering - application managed (on), 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x Catalyst AI - disabled, standard, advanced (on) Mipmap detail level - High performance, performance (on), quality, high quality Wait for vertical refresh - Always off (on), off unless application specifies, on unless application specifies, always on Adaptive anti aliasing - Disabled (on), enabled Direct3D settings - Support DXT texture formats, alternate pixel centre (<- none of these are selected) OpenGL settings - triple buffering, force 24-bit 2-buffer depth (<- none of these are selected) Aside from that, I've capped my FPS at 30, and I'm running all the recommended settings for ATI cards as specified in the OFF help notes. Can anyone suggest useful, sure fire changes for increased graphical beauty? In particular, I'd love to get rid of the ugly vertical join in the top wing of aircraft (Alb DIIs in particular) which resembles some odd paint job join. TIA, Simon -

Hi ET, Go into the MP folder and have a look at the MP stickies at the top of the page - they explain it quite well. Having done that, you should PM Vasco (our gracious host) and see if you can arrange a time when he can help you configure your MP bits and pieces. It's quite straightforward, but it helps if you have someone guide you through. I'd definitely recommend downloading Teamspeak first (a cinch to set up) and getting hold of a headset which has both earphones and a microphone. See you soon - plus any other players you can persuade to come out to play :) -
Hi Vasco, I've had a clear out upstairs and lost the notes regarding the IP for your server - can you remind me? Also, are we now on a new TS server? Shame about the response the the European MP thread. I really thought that there might be more people willing to sign up for it...I might bump it just to see if it stimulates a response. Cheers, Si

MiniPATCH V1.32g is now available!
themightysrc replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Not downloaded it yet - only just back from work, got to make snap for me and t'wife - but thanks in advance for the patch. Also have to agree with Hasse and Cav: I'd love to see the Pfalz DXII and SS DIII/IV, but I'm a patient man, and willing to get killed in whatever comes my way... -
Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-wing open crate

"When the news passed around the mess that the Rittmeister was dead, they charged their glasses to drink a toast to him, but Mick Mannock(who had been interned by the Turks when the war broke out) refused, and said "Sizzle Sizzle WONK! I hope he burned ALL THE WAY DOWN!". ButI really think Mick's hatred was not the norm." Probably worth bearing in mind that Mannock had been badly treated as an internee of the Central Powers. Probably wouldn't have endeared Germany, Austria or Turkey to him. -
Hiya Godz, I agree with you - I'm off to SimHQ to tell people a bit more about OFF. I might even start a thread inviting people to report on their single player campaigns with their pilots, ranging over the entire Western front from 1915 onwards, complete with anecdotes and pictures. I would have thought one or two ROF jockeys might be quite interested in that....

RoF AI's FM's accurate after latest patch?
themightysrc replied to godzilla1985's topic in General Discussions
Hi Tamper, You have my sympathy. I've been to various forums, and I have to say that it's only the SimHQ one that demonstrates such waspish responses to complaints about ROF, and I've had a look at the European distributor's forum plus the quite amusing 'Something Awful' forum. To be frank, I do detect a certain amount of wilful blindness and defensiveness about ROF at SimHQ, which is a terrible shame, because the people complaining about the problems are absolutely right: if there are serious areas that are porked, then it does no-one any good to pretend that all is well. I frankly find it a little puzzling. Here's a sim with stellar potential which desperately needs major fixes to keep at least one set of players (MPers, in all likelihood) happy and singing its praises. From what I can see, it currently pleases no major group of players, except those that enjoy a challenging flight sim with superficial lasting appeal. What I find even more bizarre is the reaction that if you find fault with ROF you're somehow not a proper simmer! Given that the general idea of a game is to sell oodles of copies, do the more vociferous proponents of ROF imagine that a difficult to fly sim is going to appeal to a mass market? Read the Something Awful forums and decide for yourself. My impression was that they'd give some of the SimHQ proponents a hearty 'f*** off!'; certainly many had tried it and found it user-unfriendly. I find myself wondering just who ROF is meant to appeal to in its present format. Pure flight simmers (how many are there of those?) love it - it's like a plane. Combat simmers like it, but many have severe issues with the sensitivity of controls, laser gunnery and whole bunch of issues besides. People into immersive games think it's superficial. The simply interested, but who don't have that burning desire to spend money supporting NeoQB appear to think that it's simply too difficult to master - and that's without comment on the long term playability of the game. Well, I'm sure elements of this will get quoted over on SimHQ and I'll be branded a "hater" or whatever other infantile appellation can be attached to someone not toeing the SimHQ/NeoQB line. Still, that's my take - perhaps I'm exceptionally odd, but I really don't see how ROF can survive simply by trotting out new planes without fixing the core problems. -
"But you had no situational awareness - you didn't realise, you crossed the lines. That should never happen." Well, I looked over the side of the DII, but I never saw a big red line receding behind me...

Olham, You have my sympathies... I'm afraid I rather let hubris get the better of me the other evening. Started a September 1916 campaign with Jasta 6 or 8 (I forget; I've killed so many pilots), and swore I'd be more careful this time. Reasons to be confident though, were abundant: An excellent scout plane in a period when the Allies were still using bicycles and feathery wings strapped to their arms Most of the fighting on my side of the lines My hitherto appalling gunnery skills have come on leaps and bounds of late I can now actually follow foes in dogfights, and don't immediately run for home instinctively What could go wrong? So, set off with 3 wingmen, and sure enough, ran into a group of Bristol Scouts. Ha. Victims! Well, to cut a long story short, Kurt and his merry men tore their way through the Brizzles, and Kurt himself bagged one of them without problems, the survivors scattering....I know what I should have done at that moment: gather the chaps together and continue the patrol. But, oh no, I saw one of the Tommies trying to sneak away, and with plenty of ammo left and without a single bullet in my aircraft, thought I'd be clever and return to base able to boast not just one but two Tommies downed in my first mission! It sort of worked: Got in behind him, blasted the poor sap out of the sky at about 500 feet and chuckled gleefully as he plummetted to his timely demise. Then I heard the THUNK of an almost infinitessimaly short burst of (presumably, as there were no other red dots around) ground based machine gun fire. No problem - only one or two hits, ha, time to continue the patrol - so I check the map to find that I've inadvertently strayed into Tommyland. Still not an issue, except my plane's caughting and spluttering: where's all my sodding fuel gone! I did, to my credit, manage an almost perfect 3 point landing. On the wrong side of the lines. Tea and crumpets for the next 2 bleedin' years then......rats.....

Excellent idea to get a page into Wikipedia - are there any other areas that might be able to provide additional exposure and publicity for OFF?

RoF AI's FM's accurate after latest patch?
themightysrc replied to godzilla1985's topic in General Discussions
"The problem as I see it is their remarkable skills as snipers." I think that was the point of the original post! "Other than that I think the sim is coming along quite well considering how long it has been on the market." Having read the most recent threads over at SimHQ, the general opinion seemed to be that the Dolphin and Pflaz XII were welcome additions, but that large problem areas (SP, MP, DF, etc) remained unaddressed. -
Finally, finally, finally shot down two aircraft in one flight! Yep, 2 BE2c's, downed with witnesses, times and locations right on the button. But.....what's this? I fill out two separate lines in the claim form - one per aircraft - and I'm told this is an erroneous claim??!! So, I dutifully remove line 2, bump up the quantity claimed in line 1 to two BE's, add the narrative for the second (a flamer, I might add), and submit again. WHAT???? The claim is *still* erroneous/invalid???!!!! I click OK anyway, because I'm getting nowhere, and sure enough, both have been rejected. Can somebody - possibly from OBD - tell me what I did or am doing wrong? Thanks, Si

Can I rudely do a bit of cross posting and ask you chaps to have a look at the European MP thread in Multiplayer? You might even get a chance to find out who actually is the best air force!
