  2. I've just been following this idea up - it's incredible the stuff they all had, and how many different factions there were. It would give you the chance to fight against just about any late-war fighter, regardless of its origin... So Camels vs N24s, for example... The only aircraft that nobody seems to have used are the later SPADs and the SE5. No idea why. Fascinating stuff...
  3. Russian Civil War

I can imagine! No, as far as I'm concerned, it's a non-starter from that point of view. But it gives me one or two odd paint schemes to do when I get bored...
  4. Russian Civil War

Very true - it wasn't like Flanders. But while I'm not going to do a campaign or anything - no idea how, for a start - there are some nice paint schemes!
  5. File Name: SE5a, South African Air Force, 1920s File Submitter: ndicki File Submitted: 26 Oct 2009 File Category: SE5a Skins South African Air Force skin for the TW Stock SE5a. These rather surprising roundels were used by the SAAF from its inception in 1920 until 1929, according to IMPS SA. They were used in "combat", during the Johannesburg Rand Revolt against militant white mineworkers (Maggie Thatcher would love it in old SA!) and the Bondelsvart Uprising in SWA in 1922. The rest of the skin is not really historical, because while some SAAF SE5s stayed in PC10, most were painted bright silver, and had 3-figure serials in black on the rear fuselage. The aircraft which I have seen still wearing it's original brown PC10 dope also still carried its RAF serial number, so I have simply left the stock serials and letters in place. 6. Russian Civil War

I've asked MontyCZ, just to be on the safe side... It should be fairly obvious which side this one's on!

  8. Anybody know what this is? Admittedly, it's post-War...
  9. Weird roundels...

    Uploading right now!
  10. Weird roundels...

LoL! There's a lot more what-ifs where that came from! I'll try and package them during the day. Has anyone ever thought of the other post-War conflicts, such as the Russian Civil War? Check this out, and look at the list of belligerents on the right hand side of the page! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Civil_War Obviously few factions had aircraft, but it's still an idea. Needs more research, as always!
  11. Weird roundels...

Well done, Heck! These are the original 1920 SAAF colours which were replaced in 1927 with the orange, white and blue roundel we all know from WW2 photos. Any interest, anyone? I'll upload them if there is. They were used in "combat", during the Johannesburg Rand Revolt against militant white mineworkers (Maggie Thatcher would love it in old SA!) and the Bondelsvart Uprising in SWA in 1922. http://www.tourbrief.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1962
  12. Weird roundels...

This is in the early 1920s, though, don't forget........... So the countries which gained independence since WW2 had not done so at the time...
  13. Weird roundels...

LoL! Keep trying... The Irish Free State roundel, when used, was a green and orange ying/yang symbol, often on a white field. More common were orange-white-green wing bands, though. They've changed it a bit since then.
  14. OK, so the technology transfer approach doesn't work... I've done the opposite with the L-39, which as issued is with tga textures. Edit - No, you're right. Just tried it out, and the aircraft still appeared normally. I converted the bmp to tga, added an alpha channel, etc, etc, hacked the LOD, and... waste of time. Bugger. It works in another series of dims I know...
  15. I'm sorry to hear this. 36 is very young... Please pass on my condolences to his family. He made some of the best add-on aircraft I've seen for this sim.
  16. You've got me there... I was going to hack the LOD and substitute .tga for .bmp, and take it from there. I've got no idea at all what you're looking at doing!
  17. What if you alpha-channelled out the existing pitot? Just thinking aloud here... Don't know if that works with SF.
  18. What about the Mirage Factory Czech MiG-21F-13? That doesn't have the rear window. Admittedly, there's still the pitot, but it's significantly closer. Unless I've missed something... http://www.column5.us/miragef.shtml
  19. One more reaching the final stages... This was done by overpainting the original files that the F1C came with, as I'd forgotten I already had Sony Tuckson's template on my HD. Clever! I'll upload it later this week. Got a lot of stuff to upload, I know...
  20. AI won't take off.

Thanks, Quack - it's reassuring to find that it isn't me. for once! I do already use both LM and KMD - mainly because LM won't run at all in SF2, which is what I usually use, but will in SF1... And as you say, there are things one will do that the other won't...
  21. You can only tick one box... I'm using all three SF2 sims, non-merged, plus a WW2 version of SF2, and then SFG which I don't actually use any more. Plus half a dozen installs of ungraded CFS3 (MAW, W40, ETO, PTO) and IL-2 1946. The one which hardly ever gets used is IL-2.
  22. CFS2 mission builder

It's included on the CD and will be installed automatically! Instead of firing up from the desktop icon, go into the programs menu - start - programs - Microsoft Games - Combat Flight Simulator 2 - Mission Builder. You might as well send a shortcut to your desktop to make life easier.
  23. File Name: Cessna AOP Mk1 Green File Submitter: ndicki File Submitted: 12 Oct 2009 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Skins What-if Army Air Corps Cessna AOP MkI (Green.) Skin for the Overkill payware O-1D Bird Dog available here: http://overkill.combatace.com/ I recommend this aircraft highly - it is easily the most carefully researched and built aircraft I have ever seen for SF2, and sets new standards in every respect. Well worth the very reasonable contribution. This aircraft skin is inspired by the Auster AOP Mk.6, a very similar aircraft used by the British Army and some Commonwealth armed forces. The serial numbers correspond to blocks used for AOP Mk.6 aircraft. Click here to download this file
