  1. Some kind words for our D.C. pilots

Amen brother ! Now they know what it's like to live in Canada during a bad winter ! (joke) Side note: So much for that busy body R. Kennedy jr. for flying around in his carbon producing jet telling us with the global warning threat, Maryland and DC etc will never see snow again !
  2. Claim forms

Seems it lists kills/promotions if you check easy or normal claims forms, but only kills if you click easy claims ? If i've have this correct that means if i use easy claims and the game progam says i'm getting X number of kills i have no chance for promotion ? If so that makes no sense to me, after all its the game progam saying i got the claim.
  3. 26" Screen

Accidents do happen. Maybe you could thow something at in frustration and claim the MVR shot you down for the 10 time ! She probably won't buy the yarn but the deed would have been done and now you can get a modern screen.
  4. Claim forms

Now that i have some experience in OFF i'm starting to use the claims form. I've just read all of this thread and the suggestions posted are very helpful. I think the odds of a pilot knowing who saw his killing shots might be pretty slim in many situations. Unless my flight out numbers the enemy the other pilots will be pretty busy within their own fights and looking around for the enemy. Wingman should seem to be the most logical one to see my kill but then who knows how good he is at doing his job or if he is in a fight as well. Listing all in my flight plus members of A flight just seems like wasted play time to me. Also sometimes the program just doesn't get it right it would seem. On a recent flight i shot down a Alb DV flown by an ace xxxxxx Blum ( i think his name was). I wrote all this down. I had also killed 2 Alb III. The report gave a warning when i was ready to submit it. I took the DV off and it accepted it. I saw the lower right wing come off, noted the AC name, reported it crashed. I'm not sure if any of the flight saw the kill. Even if its not witnessed i would think the entire claim should not be auto rejected. I also find having to pause the game and take notes of all the details disruptive to game play. Surely a pilot in real life was lucky to have even 1/4 of his kills confirmed if they were that strict in real life. No gun cameras in those days.
  5. OT--Are Your Feet Cold?

Poor ole Archie Manning was being pulled in both directions on Sunday. His years as qb for the Saints so many years ago when they were lucky to win a game and having his son qb the other team. As a student at LSU i had the (dis) pleasure of seeing him qb Ole Miss vs LSU. We won the season game on the great Billy Cannon punt return. He led them to victory in the Sugar bowl in the old Tulane stadium. I think that was the 1958 season but the old brain doesn't work so good anymore. Some may not know it but Peyton Manning is a huge fan of the Saints. As a kid of the Saints qb way back then of course he would be. Archie loves The big Easy and South La. despite having played for Ole Miss. Anyway, grats to the Saints ! Would love to be on Burbon street now. I mean a street where the girls stand on balconies and get topless can't be in a city with no character, can it ?
  6. Scrambles in OFF

Looks like you OFF vets come through again. Thanks for the replies, comments and suggestions guys. It's refreshing to be on a game board where a newbie questioning a part of the game is not taken as anti-game and is answered in a mature way by the board members.
  7. Scrambles in OFF

Ive been starting up asap believe me, lol. As rolling as fast as the engine starts and doing a dance as soon as the wheels are clear. I always have the tac on and those bombers were not in sight in the one scramble. Thanks for the tip on hitting pause right away and having a look.
  8. Medals in OFF

For balloon missions switch to vehicles as you near the area it is in. The one that is your target will be at the end of the waypoint.
  9. User Skins / Sub Categories etc

The First Eagles setup works for me.
  10. Rock, metal whatever, poor excuse for music imo. I still think it doesn't fit a WWI dogfight. Thats just my opinion and not a reflection upon your choice of "music". To each his own brother. :)
  11. The paintings are beautiful. The Red Baron video link in the reply above: The video itself was interesting. The song done in rock is completely wrong for this era. The pilots of the day would have not liked it one bit imo. Go ahead call me an old foggy.
  12. Flying for the other side.

I too am American by birth. Born and raised in the deep South, at heart a Rebel who accepted around age 20 that our cause was wrong way back then. I served my country (not drafted) in the USAF, SAC, 8th AF, 389 Missile Wing as a supply officer in the mid 60's. I've lived in Alberta, Canada since 1966,that was only going to be about 2yrs, but economics rule so here we still are. Living here opened my eyes to the role played by the British and the Commonwealth countries in both WW wars. I have always had an interest in military aircraft from all nations. In a game like OFF i am able to role play a character from any of the 4 nations. I do so with no hostility toward the other side but as a job am doing. I find flying the different approaches the sides took in designing and equiping their ac most interesting.
  13. Medals in OFF

I wonder if they will have to beat him to get the info on P4 ? Come on guys at least give us a hint as to when we might see P4. We understand nothing is written in stone on going live with an expansion.
  14. Medals in OFF

Bailing out is a hold over from my CFS3 days. My guy did it all correct , arms holding the risers etc but they weren't there and as you said , no chute. It was kinda funny in a way. Seems i read where many years ago they had some chutes late in WWI. Balloon crews used them i think. Maybe air crew very late in the war ? More comments on this would be interesting.
  15. She's so good to me!

Sounds like a good deal, grats to both of you !
  16. Recorded my patrol flight

Really enjoyed that movie, great job. Shows how quick a pilot can be lost, even vets. One mistake and you are gone.
  17. She's so good to me!

WOW ! now that kind of woman is a gamer's dream. Every thing comes with a price in life however. Does she make you cook, do the dishes, the laundry and house cleaning ?
  18. It seems my ac always take a lot of damage from the rear gunners in those Hun bombers. I've only attacked 3 or 4 bomber formations so far in my limited OFF time but the gunners sure can shoot ! I keep my gun accuracy set to normal by the way. An attack from below in a steep climb seems to help keep the gunners off but the problem is these old crates ive flown so far don't climb very long standing on the prop. High speed attack from above might work ? Just keep the wings on the crate lol. How do you guys go about this with some chance of not getting shredded every time?
  19. Any estimated dated on when we might see First Eagles 2 for vista/Windows 7-64 bit ?
  20. First Eagles 2 ?

Thanks for the repy. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
  21. is there autopilot in game

Speaking of warp. Most of the time it works as intended but lately i've had several times when it sent me the opposite direction of the next way point. Every time it's the last long waypoint going home. Looks like a bug in some missions. ???
  22. When you go to Escape/Controls it is VERY important that you use the title "Mine" (no "s just the letters) at save as box. That way when you fly another mission OFF will have your settings for the joy stick up and running. Use any other title like your name and each flight you will have to go into controls and select it.
  23. It would seem many OFF pilots choose to be flight leaders. As such we have to make many decisions during a sortie. I would be most interested to hear comments on this area from you guys. 1. Do you always put your mission goals above all else ? Example: You are leading a flight of 6 fighters on a bomber escort mission. You barely are off the ground and spot a flight of 4 German bombers approaching your air field. Do you engage them or carry on with your assigment to meet and cover the bombers ? 2. Same mission. You are 10 miles from the target. You see a flight of 6 unknown a/c flying toward your flight + or - 2,000' above you and about 2miles to your left. Do you carry on or break off and identify them ? 3. Same mission, you id a flight of 6 enemy fighters following your flight at your altitiude. You are 8 miles from the target and they are about 7000 ft behind and slowly gaining on your flight. What do you do ?
  24. Decisions of a Flight Leader

Thanks for the replies guys. I find it most interesting to see how others handle these situations.
