AGM-65 Maverick as an A2A weapon
Stick replied to Fida's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Beg to differ. Comes in handy when ur being hassled by Flankers or for that matter any enemy plane hustling you when on CAS. Ive had one kill; yes SU-27 that was lining up on my wingman. Ill try for a screenie. -
I love the Baz;here against a Sukhoi in a low speed knife-fight where either of us is trying to bring our guns to bear. My wingman seeing I was in a spot and out of energy, ended it before anything bad transpired. And there was another one against these 29s hassling a Hercules. Again wingman to the rescue.

I took her through her paces. Over the alps and against a posse of Fulcrums. Beat the s**t out of them even though we were outnumbered 4-16. I was even honoured by the queen for my valour. I tried the cobra. She'll do it without a murmur of protest. Hats off sah!!! -

Nope on WOE; thats actually the theatre it should be in. But I got the advanced AI thanks to Christian59 and Warlord ATF;tweaked it a little more so that now every time I shoot or sneak up on them they will take evasive action no matter whether they are rookie or ace. And sometimes I learn from the wingman now. Here shooting an ASRAAM over the Black forest. And then flaming Ivan going down with the sunset. -

Problem with Soviet Air-To-Air Weapons
Stick replied to Fida's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
My friend the biggest mistake anybody can make is to believe Russian propaganda. Thats how they've worked for the last hundred years and the only way they know how to work. I will concede that the equipment they export must be of markedly inferior quality( though the Sukhoi's we procured for training were the one's they flew themselves-they were ex-russian airforce; and that is why I considered it pertinent to mention the same.) No doubt they come out with aerodynamic marvels but that is where the buck stops. Their fire control is awful. Our MiG-29 pilots have specific tactics to defeat Pakistani F-16's, we will not go head to head unless forced to, and will use IR guided weapons as the first weapon to commence engagement. And we also fly in greater numbers. The point is their airforce is running on modifications and embellishments to equipment that was last developed at the end of the cold war. Their economy cant sustain full scale technological research and development. Why do you think we Indians are now warming up up to the Americans??? And why have the Isreali's been our discreet friends in all things martial for the last twenty years? Coz russian equipment is unreliable. Period. -
Problem with Soviet Air-To-Air Weapons

With the R77 i agree but our airforce for one has abandoned the AA-10 Alamo. We are looking to integrate French missiles on our Russian aircraft. The fact is Russian missiles are so darn heavy. I mean some of their missiles weigh more than the Phoenix. And have quarter the range. And half of all their claims are boasts. If you saw the first batch of Flankers that came into India, close up, you would also agree that NATO or for that matter Western estimates of Russian aircraft and weapons are not so completely unfounded. I'll also agree with you that the Iraqi's didn't know how to handle Russian equipment but what about the Yugoslavians? Or even us for that matter. We carried through the Kargil War with our Mirages. Not our Floggers or Fishbeds;let alone whatever missiles or ground attack weaponry they were using -

Russian missiles are for a fact notoriously innaccurate. Compare the weight of a russian missile to a western counterpart. You will find its as much as twice or even four times as heavy. I dont think that translates into great performance. The R-73 and 77 are the new breed and have improved reliablity and accuracy. But dont use the same tactics as you you would with an AMRAAM or Sidewinder. -
I think I love the Tomcat so much coz they flew something that looked like it against Cobra. I was an impressionable kid back then. Weren't we all in those days of innocence? Oh yeah; My favourite guy was Snake-Eyes.

Reporting Live from the Promised Land
Stick posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
After running a successful intercept we turned our attention to the Egyptian F-16A's loitering at high altitude I lost my wingman in the prolonged engagement that stretched out over an hour(my longest ever). At one point I almost gave up and hit the deck with my fuel dangerously low. but then the memory of my wingman bailing out under arab fire came back to me, and indignation bouyed my will to fight to the finish. Dodging through the city, I let the distance build as that mad arab kept up with the rolling attacks; obviously not wanting come down to me.Tracers flew close and I weaved the mighty Eagle through an inspired repertoire of jinks and breaks, many times almost courting the certain disaster of a stall. After all he was trying to kill me. At two miles I reversed onto him full afterburner in a desperate gamble to re-enagage and defeat him. As he floated into my sights, I cut throttle and let off a snap shot. The last thing that devout servant of Allah's must have smelt was the whiff of 20mm because 4 rounds stitched the cockpit. When I got back my wingman was still on the roster. The War continues. We shall persevere. *I played around with the advanced AI and increased the chancecontinue level for veterans and aces to 90.* -

Furry's Rules of Survival
Stick posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Gentlemen if somebody put these up earlier I didnt know. 1. Always remember your jet was made by the lowest bidder. 2. Train like you plan to fight. 3. If you're up to your eyeballs im gomers, you're in combat. 4. When in doubt, use industrial strength deterrence. 5. Never fly in the same cockpit with someone who is braver than you. 6. Priorities are man-made, not God-made. 7. A plan never survives the first thirty seconds of combat. 8. If it's stupid but works, it ain't stupid. 9. Only turn to blow the opposition away; otherwise, run away and fight another guy. 10. Always honor a threat. 11. Know the opposition. 12. Know when it's time to get out of Dodge. 13. Alway know how to get out of Dodge. 14. The important things are always simple. 15. The simple things are always hard. It was a fine book, and our flyboy got the jewess! -
