VW Hippy Van
Spectre_USA replied to JimBeamer5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Anyone ever see that video of the Warthog van, with the guy lobbing BDU-33's? That should be the next project, but only the enemy would dare bomb it. Could you imagine a whole line of them? Heehehehe... -
Operation Desert Storm: Desktop Icon Replacement
Spectre_USA replied to Brennus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Er, well, a couple of things. It says specifically that it was made for WoE, not WoV, and thus the reason for the missing `Hog. You posted this in the icon thread, not the ODS thread, dunno why... -

Operation Desert Storm: Desktop Icon Replacement
Spectre_USA replied to Brennus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Excellent! I was thinking of doing one, as I used a replacement yesterday. Did not want the WoE one on my desktop. Yours is much better than the crude and rude one I came up with... -
F-111B Version 2.0
Spectre_USA replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
It's still an Aardvark, and all `varks need love! Even this poor, forlorn, full term abortion of one. Many Thanks gentlemen! I amy add it to ODS, for grins and giggles... -
F-111B WIP
Spectre_USA replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
She was, indeed, an ugly spud in real life. After out wrenching on the "long-nosers" all day, I'd periodically drive to the other side of McClellan and pass the poor neglected beast by. All forlorn in a corner by the fence line. She'd be a happy camper seeing this version of her. Yeah, you know jets got feelings too, eh? -
ODS
Spectre_USA replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm doing fair, it is a target righ environment, but my wingmen are falling like flies! The enemy AI is right up to snuff, and with mostly deep strike missions, they have a heyday with my poor wingies who just can't seem to follow orders. One will do something right, and then switch into sheep-dip mode. >Pop< another happy SAM flinger or MiG driver. Prolly go for some solos as they aren't even worth being MiG magnets. Oh, yeah, this one has ratcheted up the difficulty bar a few notches... -
Campaign Won't Load ...
Spectre_USA replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It was common, even after WoV came out. It took quite a few patches before you could actually get all the way through a campaign, so I'd say yes, it is probably why. The early days for us, seemingly few, campaigners was extremely frustrating... -
Campaign Won't Load ...
Spectre_USA replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In the early days campaigns would not continue after a certain point. You'd load, and they'd crash. Since the, oh, I dunno, 3rd SF patch they have been working. You are patched up, yeah? -
More Weapons Problems - Sorry
Spectre_USA replied to AJAY67's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I don't reckon you DO have the latest edition of the weapons editor, as it sounds like it is saving it in a fashion unreadable by the latest patched versions. As to the folders in the objects directory, no, that won't work. You NEED a weapons folder under it, and that is where all the weapons folders go, along with your compiled weapons.ini, which is made into the weapons.dat. Go to the Thirdwire site (<<--link) and look for the "Weapon Data Editor v02.20.08 (199 KB) for versions of games and updates released in 2008. " -
Screenshot Thread

Yeah! Don't you love that the `117 gimbals past center? Reminds me of the old Tornado sim. As to ODS, here's a pair that go together. 1st mission for my Falcon squadron; Lined `em up, nice and pretty, but who's cage got rattled? Had to take `em out in the air, since they skipped right over the craters... -
DS Mod Goodies
Spectre_USA replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Especially if you're shooting at Allied Aircraft. Very bad thing, IMHO. Haven't you ever heard of a water mosque-issan? They are the the Kuwaiti chapter of the Al-Qaida eels, and that is where they hide their explosives. -

I'm like a little friggin' kid in a candy store! I had been getting back into IL-2, due to this new UI from AAA. Downloaded and installed the 8 part, 250 MB each files. Yeah, Buddy, 2 GB! Had just tweaked it in, and wandered by here as it had been a day or two, and, dared I hope? Bingo, bango, it actually lives! Downloaded, patched up a fresh WoE install as it did so, installed, and tossed my pilots folder, and X52 config file. Flew the Wobbly Goblin, the new Aardvarks, Falcons and Eagles over the range to get a feel. IL-2? What was that again? Now, over on the game rig, I had a dilemma. What beast to take into campaign? Let's hit the middle, and fire up a Falcon. Heading for Iraq on day one, over excellent looking terrain, F6'ing my way through the different jets joining me. Immersive? Oh, yes. A flash back to days of yore? Yeah, that too. So far this rocks, the campaign is starting to rock, and youse guys just r00l! Many, many thanks gentlemen... __EDIT___ Many what? D'oh! -
Operation Desert Storm, Part 1 of 3

I am so PSYCHED to see this long awaited item come down the pike. Thanks so much, Ladies and Gentlemen, for taking the time and extraordinary care in compiling, tweaking and laboring for this, for us. We appreciate it greatly. ROCK ON!!1122 -

I'm thinking about reading the readme.txt file, which I usually do. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea, or not? -
Brain32 WoE terain. Flickering dark polygons on water - october08 patch
Spectre_USA replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Abda-bing, bada-boom! More specifically, in my Libya_Data.ini, I looked for; [HeightField] DetailScale=1.0 DetailFrequency=1.0 MaxHeight=1000 MinHeight=0 And then added these 3 lines with a normal heading space above and below; [HeightOffset] LowDetailMesh=-1.0 WaterMesh=0.8 Now I am flying flicker free over on the games machine! Many thanks... -

I get the same thing on the Libya terrain. Renamed the FX file, and it lessened it. I am unsure what to change in the INI's to negate it... -

I'm hoping this weekend is the hap-hap-happiest one since Fred Astaire danced with Danny F'ing Kaye! (Extra points for the movie title...) -

Yup, he's been bitching and moaning on the finest flight sim boards for years. `Til I banned him from a few. I haven't been to SimHQ for years, due to folks like him. Say "Hi" from Spectre_USA, and he'll flip out! -

There's something sexy about the `Varks in general, and yeah, the big wings in particular, the lovely Ozzie lasses! Anyone gonna make a tiny nosed "B?" That would be a challenge! ___EDIT___ Noded? Nosed. I must be a sycophant... -

Stiglr has been a well known buzz harsher in the flight sim community for alot of years. He feels he is somehow helping by directing developers to the Holy grail of combat simulations? Puh-lease. I've not seen him accomplish anything but controversy and discontent. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure he thrives on these long threads about him. I am also pretty sure I swung the ban-hammer on him when I modded the UbiSoft forums. He and Cropduster, who I've had the pleasure of banning 3 times, from the same place! -
