Moving the node north?
Spectre_USA posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hi-o! So, I am digging the `82 campaign, but wanted to modernize it, to utilize the Raptor, Typhoon, Fulcrum and Flanker. Also, to get it quasi-historical, make it during the month of the Lebanon War 2. All the jets appear, and it is like the `82 stock one with the SAMs and major air battles, but, and you knew there had to be one, it is too short! I only get 6 - 8 missions in before the win. Again, like the `82 I've played through a few times. This leads to the question, how to change the win conditions to a place further north. Do any campaign gurus know a quick way, or would it be a major undertaking. I see in the cmpaign_data.ini, the Beirut area, with surrounding facilities. Would this work for the Northern area as well? Which facilities? If it is not too straightforward, no biggie, I'll just do short ones, but if it only takes a few lines in an INI, I'd love to. I did, of course look at the knowledge base, but it is not very descript, with examples, for this area... -
Moving the node north?

Well, just a little update for them that care. I have gotten over a dozen missions more with my doctored campaign, but it has ust gotten odd. Their is quit a bit less activity, and sometimes I end up with a view in the air somewhere, and nothing to do but esc out and retry. Sometimes it works, others not. The enemy comes up late to intercept sometimes, and is fun in that way, but the ground offensive has stalled halfway up Lebanon, and a ways into Syria. Just had an intercept where a pair of bombers were underground below the runway and taxiway. I gotta figure out how to connect the nodes to the north... -
Aviano skin

I know for certain the A-10's would visit there in the early 80's, as I was with them! I was most happy to visit that beautiful area, even though it was a long trip in a Herky-bird from, them back to, RAF Bentwaters, England! -

Heckuva deal! I think the Voodoo, or CF-101 in this instance, is one of the most highly desired aircraft `round these parts. Here's hoping your early, yet already good looking, airframe sees its way into the virtual skies! And I had to comment on the C=64 screen, I tried to type in LOAD "*",8,1, but it didn't work! -
Cool: guide a Maverick from your laptop!
Spectre_USA replied to tflash's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ha! I like the shot of a Maverick ripping of the rail of a prop-job. I'd say Herky-bird, but the engine looks, well, different. I would like to see that dual rail system in game, looks cool... -
I have no problem with that, but BLT is hosting it, so it is his call. As to the shortness, that is actually 3 times longer that the 1/3 of an article that will be in Flight Journal next month. I reckon I have gotten too used to the real estate allowed with ink, and abbreviate sub-consciously...

The Spark-Vark lives! I like it! Is the FM being tweaked for WoI? I would hope it can handle swing wings... -
Problems in loading weapons and skin?
Spectre_USA replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Spectra? Whatever. Normally INI files will open automatically when double-clicked in notepad. Open the readme in whatever weapon you want, and paste in the whole line that starts with [WeaponDataXXX]. Now here's the tricky bit. You have to scroll up and see what the last number is on the weapon. Say it is 125. Like this; [WeaponData125] TypeName=AA-9 FullName=AA-9/R-33 Amos ModelName=aa9 etc. You with me so far? OK, scroll down to the one you JUST PASTED IN. Replace the 3 X's with the next conceivable number, like maybe, 126? Save the file. Now, open up the weapons editor, and it WILL BE BLANK. Do a file -->> open, and look for the same weaponsdata.ini you just saved. When it is open you should see all the explosive bits already installed, and at the very bottom, the last possible entry, it should show the one you just added! Hit save to the right of that, and close the editor. You are good to go. Short of remotely connecting to your system, there is little more I can do to explain. _EDIT_ Snide remark removed. -

Once in the weapons editor, open the weaponsdata.ini you wish to use. This shoud be the one you pasted your correctly numbered entries into. Once open, look around, see if it all looks uptight, and click save. That will create a new weaponsdata.dat, which is what the simulation uses. Go fire up the game, and slap on your new explosive toys... -
Ah, yes, administrative overhead. They had bunches of that crap when I got out in `92. You better have that 6" thick checklist at the right page and checked with grease pencil at the exact step, or your ass was grass! Yeah, I was given a choice, SSB, and only saw the SNAFU's getting much tougher, so took the money and ran! Only 6 years short of retirement, but I woulda probably gone postal, and don't figure Leaveanworth was a good place to retire...

All youse Razor haters don't need to fly it. Razor just fits, without all the retro homilies, and other in-depth silliness. Razor r00lz, at least in this poll. Long live the Razor! -
Some WOI improvements I like ...

I think the fact that I can now see the briefing map, zoomed in, and after moving waypoints, on my 8800GTS, is my favorite SP1 addition. I do have a few more written down here somewhere, but USAFMTL-STBUSAFR seems to have misplaced it... -
Damn comm buildings.

I usually do the opposite. Have #2 take a run, and if he chuckles it up, I make the pass. If he nails it, cool. I have gifts for the other party-goers... -
Moving the node north?
Spectre_USA replied to Spectre_USA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Well, I did make the switch to Al Quasyr, or whatever, as listed in the targets.ini. Flew 5 and am on the brief for invasion of Beirut, which has previously been the finalé. We shall see. I did notice more icons for tank brigades (?) going up the Bekaa Valley, which would seem a good sign. Not sure when I'll get the time to fly again, but hopefully soon... -

Any story that involves the Aardvark in a starring role is a good one in my book. Now, you do know about them new-fangled LGB thingmies, yeah? When you hear 12 o'clock, 5 miles, you hit the pickle button, and veer 12-20 degrees to avoid splash damage, >BiG-bOoM< and it's Miller time... -
Yup. 6:28 left, stick a fork in `em, they're done. 1 hour season for me? Longest in the last 15 years!

I have not been into the NHL in many years, as it has been 16 years since I've been within 200 miles of an NHL city. Was big on the Bruins when I was a kid in Boston, and it looks, with a quick peek at My Yahoo, that they are playing a game 7 right now, in a hostile city, and are down 2 - 0 in the 2nd. Bummer. Go Bruins!

Student is accused of terrorism by threatening kill Chuck Norris

Chuckles Von Norris is a piss-poor actor and a hack. There, I said it. Bring it on! -
I loved `em! As the crew-cheif on the load team, it was the coolest!

Meander on, my man! I love hearing old stories of the good leaders. I know the sensation, I hasten to add. During my time in the USAF, I really shined when we had a real mission, like when I was in USAFE. Set a record for an ICT on the A-10. But when I was stateside, with little but busy work, not so much shininess.

Spectre_USA replied to Spectre_USA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Absolutely excellent insight! Many thanks JSF_Aggie, this will narrow down nicely what can be done. If it pukes, or we get stalemate, I will just wait `til the patches have settled down, and get on into it. Cheers!
