  1. OT Message to the Tornado Crew

I was woken up alarmed not too long ago by (what sounded like) a low flying Tornado, I put my thumbs up then went back to sleep. About two years ago I was surprised to see a Lancaster Bomber flying over our Village, it was quite eerie (in that goosebumps kind of way) as I don't remember it making any particular sound as you'd imagine it would, despite it being quite close.
  2. Attn All Airmen

Most kind of you to update my self defence standards to that of the most modern teachings should I be set upon by ruffians in Paris or the like. Might also come in handy against a cunning Jerry if I prang my kite sausage side, so long as I remember to take along my Hat, Umbrella and Watch.
  3. Midair Collisions

My biggest fear in the DiD campaign is that I'll crash into an enemy craft and die, I crashed loads previously but have been lucky so far in this campaign (I've also been a lot less aggressive which is probably why) I even crash into a plane at the end of one of my youtube videos. At least with the bullets you usualy have a few seconds before it goes from ok to dead, with collisions it goes from ok to dead in 0.1 seconds.
  4. Ati settings (yeah,,again)

I used to have the problem where turning on labels would lower my FPS, but the latest ATI drivers seem to have fixed that. (With an ATI 4890.)
  5. Pilot's Facemask Pictures

Let's not forget the German Pilot with the metal face mask from Biggles: Adventures in Time! Although I fear that historical accuracy may not have been one of the films strong points, what with the time traveling cook, the sound weapon and the helicopter.
  6. Alternative Shellmusic

That menu music is great, very sad and depressing sounding. And I do love that song from Aces High, I've even been trying to learn the tune to it and play it on my crappy little electric keyboard.
  7. Flying by map

Another map navigation related thing that I've been testing out recently for the DiD Campaign is replacing the map_inflight.dds file in aircraft/shared with a screenshot of the briefing map before each mission so that I can look at the map in game. Guess that only works with craft like the Strutter that has a map in its cockpit though. Haven't been able to test it much in campaign yet as we only get two flights per day, but I thought it might be good for immersion for if you can find a good map for navigation with.
  8. Flying by map

I use the mission briefing map for my navigation so I don't have to open the in game map as I don't like how it shows your position, I usualy mix the major landmarks from the map such as the front line or the coast, mixed with simple time / direction guessing. "Heading 110 until I reach the big brown muddy line with the explosions, then head south along it until the big brown muddy line turns to the left, then heading 090 and bomb the 3rd Airfield on the right, after which run away."
  9. Am I getting old?

We were alright here, Aces High was on today! I remember it was on on Christmas Day last year, doesn't seem very Christmasy to me, but I'm not complaining.
  10. Flares are one of the ordnance options on the RE8, you can select them at the mission briefing screen as a loadout, then you just use them in the same way as bombs, I'm not sure if/what other planes have them though. I'm not sure if they actualy have any in game use, but I like to load them for Artillery Spotting missions at night - as if I'm assisting the ground troops by dropping flares over enemy targets.
  11. Those are the flares with some added photoshop lens flare added to them, the non-edited ones look like this:
  12. I use it also, I quite like the way that the glare often hides enemy fighters until they're right on top of you on sunny days, "Beware of the Hun in the Sun" and all that. This pic I took a while ago shows it quite well I think, such as how the horizon is masked by the light:
  13. aircraft labels, who uses em?

We like to give you chaps a head start every now and again you see, don't want to make it too easy for ourselves, what!
  14. aircraft labels, who uses em?

For me I always have the labels off as I find it more satisfying when I do spot aircraft in the distance. Also I'm abit odd in that I enjoy getting "bounced" by the Hun sometimes. Another odd thing for me is that it seems when I have labels on or any text it lowers my frame rate by about 10 FPS, but it's not realy an issue for me though as I don't use the text. I suppose at the end of the day it depends on your personal preference and what size monitor you have, also the state of your eyesight.
  15. Thanks, Olham. Thanks for the tip Beard, the only concern is that I'd rather the logo be something new/original, but I can see if I can find a good pic to use as a base. For now I've edited it abit by painting over the logo and the text by hand (well, mouse) then deleted the original images to try to make them look more hand drawn and less clip art, also made the logo look more angry but hopefully it's still abit cheesy. I'll stop now as I don't want to clutter up the screenshots thread.
  16. My first attempt at personalizing a skin. I know the logo looks cheesy but the cartoon was the only Whirlwind like "Character" I could find. John Reginald 'Johnie' Green is my imaginary rear gunner / observer.
  17. Richard Todd R.I.P.

A great Hero, a great Actor and a great Gentleman. The World could do with afew more like him. R.I.P.
  18. Nice work! I like the glowing lights.
  19. I got ordered to go on a recon mission at the start of a new campaign, so thought I may as well take a recon photo of when they told me to go look at:
  20. Sory if this one has been asked before but I haven't been able to find an answer. I'm not sure if this is a new development or if I just haven't noticed before, but when playing OFF and CFS3 my Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback Joystick doesn't re-centre like it does with other games. I can force it to turn the re-centre ability back on again if I alt-tab and open up the joystick settings but when I do that it seems to deactivate the in game Force Feedback for gunfire and stalling etc as if it was a non-FF game. (Pretty sure it's not the stick as it works with all the other FF games I have.) Any ideas? Or is it a CFS3 Problem / meant to be that way? Edit: Sorry, I think this might be in the wrong place.
  21. Force Feedback return-to-centre

It's not realy that major a problem as I can deal without it without much trouble, just thought there might have been an easy fix but I guess I'll just have to manage, thanks for the help.
  22. It's a Bristol Scout actualy I'm afraid, I have to say though that it's a very tricky business trying to hit anything with the tracers turned off and a wonky gun.
  23. Here's a random screenshot I took during an early war quick battle while I try to find the best settings for the enbseries bloom thing:
  24. Making distance and deflection shots

I've tried afew quick combats with the tracers and long range damage effects off and so far I like it, it makes getting kills that much more hazardous and rewarding and it makes it seem as though the combat is more primitive as if they haven't worked out how best to kill eachother yet, which is one of the interesting things about WW1 air combat for me. Also makes attacking two seaters an interesting event when you can't see where they're shooting, I imagine it will be the same with ground attack also. Great idea Creaghorn. (It also makes it seem like one of those old war films where they didn't have all those CGI tracers and the like, which is fun.)
