  1. For RAF_Louvert

All through that video I was thinking 'Break you damn fool!'
  2. OFF P4

Ah but one point of view is that the Mayan calendar ending does not signify the end of the world, simply the end of the current era, and the begining of a new one - which some take to signify the begining of a new golden age. It seems obvious to me that the Mayans knew the exact release date of Phase 4 all those years ago, and so based their calendar around it.
  3. OFF P4

    Two weeks, be sure!
  4. Did Werner Voss have a brother?

Max Voss, now that's a name! Sounds like the sort of bloke who eats danger for breakfast! Either that or the Bad Guy from a James Bond film.
  5. Following on from the news that the Red Cross thinks we're all War Criminals: BBC News - War Gaming or fun? Spot the difference Maybe Phase 4 had better come with a label on the back of the box: 'Warning, prolonged use may result in user feeling the urge to shoot themself in the foot." Then again I've been playing the OFP/ArmA/ArmAII Series pretty much constantly for the last 11 years, so maybe I should go see a Doctor! Nice to see a report actually working with a game developer and making a game look good for once, rather than the usual 'Video games are evil and are turning us all into monsters' thing. The Screenshots are pretty snazzy too - Maybe we should take OFF screenshots and compare them to real WWI photos.
  6. OT: War or gaming fun?

He was beaten by the French?! Good god man!
  7. Found this one tonight - I'd like to note in advance that some might want to pass, as it's making fun of the third reich (for example I know that Olham doesn't enjoy the downfall parodies because of his distaste for Hitler and co) so apologies in advance if you don't like this sort of thing, also if you actually understand the words he's saying it probably loses some of the humour - personally I found it hillarious, but that's just me. I'd also like to apologize for ruining anyone's childhood!
  8. Speaking of Darth Vader, here's are a pair that always make me laugh: *Warning: Bad Language!* Snatch Wars - featuring Brick Vader, the Cockney Gangster Sith Lord. (Helps if you've seen the film Snatch): Vader Sessions - When Darth Vader has a nervous breakdown:
  9. First Light

The Docu-Drama is based on the book of the same name - which I can very highly recommend - written by Geoffrey Wellum, which follows him from just before joining the RAF - through training, then 92 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, then on to some early cross channel daylight bomber escorts and sweeps, then flying Spitfires off of HMS Furious during the Siege of Malta. The Docu-Drama itself is only concerned with the Battle of Britain part of his life (it'd be nice if it was the whole book - but the Docu-Drama was made to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, so it's understandable), and I'd also recommend the DvD of that, as the YouTube uploads seem to be of not the greatest quality. I also read that the book First Light is on the required reading list for all new RAF Officer cadets - what more excuse do you need?
  10. OT: War or gaming fun?

But one question is, does the PTSD result from the actions he went through, or was it as a result of the possible consequences of them? As I'd think no matter how far away you are you'd still be effected by the knowledge that when you drop a bomb someone is going to die, and you have to trust that the intelligence you're given is correct and that the person you're killing is the enemy - because at the end of the day no matter how far away you might be, you're the one pulling the trigger - and even when you do the job right you're the one who has to live with the fact that your actions resulted in someones life ending, even if they were the enemy, or - if you were to make a mistake or not be 100% on the job then your friends might be put in greater danger because of something you didn't do.
  11. Manfred von Richthofen's Legacy

Either that or Oberleutnant Reinhard was a very ambitious fellow who was good at forging handwriting.
  12. In WW2 Online theres a sort of Pilot joke, as in the begining the ground forces used to shell Airfields with tanks and the like - so the developers placed trees around most of the Airfields to block their line of sight, the only trouble is the trees kill more 'greentags' than enemy tanks ever could! The trees are so deadly that we keep saying German Agents planted them before the war.
  13. Might be my imagination, but I think I can see the hint of a roundel on the top of the horizontal stabilizer in this pic: You can see a dark smudge in the middle with a lighter part to the right, then another darker curve outside that. Plus this one has no roundels on the top of the main Wings, like the one in the crash pic. (This is apparently a B.E.2c of No. 6 Squadron R.F.C)
  14. Personally I think he's from the village of Ollantaytambo in Peru, but that's just me...
  15. I'd guess it probably looked like this in colour (presuming it were a Be2): (I couldn't be bothered to colour in the trees. )
  16. Be2 like this perhaps? Same looking skid anyway, but then I suppose a skid is a skid is a skid.
  17. The thing I always liked about early aviation is that granted it might have been dangerous and things might have failed and the like, but they often seem to get into a good old prang and still be in relatively one piece. Also reminds me of a picture I saw of a He111 upside down, nose down planted in the side of what seemed to be a pub, can't post it though as it was in one of them old fashioned paper things, rather than internet land.
  18. Does P4 get it's own name?

Over Flanders Fields: Skies of Honour (with a u. ) Like the aerial version of 'the field of honour'
  19. Legends in Flight

I still maintain that the Spitfire Mk. I is the most beautiful machine created by mankind thus far.
  20. Promotion Idea

Speaking from the outside I'd imagine that as OFF was originally a free mod that went payware with phase 3, rather than a pay for product with a production team from the begining, it's probably a bit different, as seeing as they were making a free game anyway it'd probably be a bit harder to go out of business for something that didn't bring a profit to begin with.
  21. I've been trying to get FSX to run somewhere at a somewhere near acceptable level since it first came out - tried searching across the internet and tweaked the config with lots of different stuff, but no matter what I did I ended up with some naff, flat looking buggy flickering low FPS mess that was more likely to make you randomly skip into the side of a building than fly in a straight line. Well a few weeks back Widowmaker posted a link to a config tool to sort it out, I only just tried it a few days ago and it's running like a dream! Now I can finally get the thing to look like all those screenshots I've been seeing of it all the time! Good show that man! I'll be sure to buy you a pint or two in the Officer's Mess!* (*That's if I don't spend all my money on bloody FSX addons!)
  22. I've been trying to install version 0.6.5 of OFFbase, but it seems to get stuck at the initial load screen. It gets stuck on the 'Loading and Configuring...' screen and just says 'Loading...' under 'OFF Manager System Registry and 'CFS Config XML' While on REBOL 3 it says: Imput Error: There is no file extension in "C\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1" (Or whatever directory OFFBase is placed in, as I tried it in different folders and none of them worked. I'm also getting the same thing with OFFset.
  23. OT: Thanks, Widowmaker!

And now that I've got it to work I can continue my old Over Flanders Fields DiD Pilot using the Air Hauler program and a Bristol Fighter. It's January 1919 and he's set up an Air Mail company in New Zealand! I love a happy ending so I do!
  24. OT: Thanks, Widowmaker!

Here's a link to the program Widowmaker posted: FSPS - Xtreme FSX PC
  25. Dawn Flight

Well it looks better than most of the stuff that passes for art these days, so good show! It looks quite haunting, especially with the Pilots featureless blue face.
