Where are the Cockpit.INI Files Located?
Czech6 replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
For aircraft that are flyable they are in the CAT folders and you have to open the folder using the CAT extractor if you want to manually input them into the aircraft folder. If they are not flyable you'll have to use a cockpit from another aircraft or one of the many mod cockpits on this website. -
Couple of question on Armchari Aces.
Czech6 replied to jack72's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Jack72: Yes you can install the additional aircraft and change the FM's later (FM's are in the aircraft .data file so you just copy and paste the .data file). "In this package" means the FM (.data file) is in one of the Armchair Aces downloads. The Pfalz EI .data file is in the 1.5 Redux download. You don't need to install all six FM downloads. Start with the 2010 versions and if the one you are looking for isn't in those try some of the older downloads working backwards 2010, 2009, etc. I tried my Fokker M7/BI and it took off under my manual control. Delete it and reinstall, maybe you didn't get a complete, uncorrupted install. Czech6 -
Problem with my AI numerals...
Czech6 replied to FALLSCHIRMJAGER's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Those numbers in the formtion file reflect separation distances your AI flies from you. In order they are (in meters): x=wing/wing y=nose/tail z=above/below If you are flying extremely low and your wingmen are not following you that low it's because of their Safe Altitude setting in the AircraftObject file. Each experience setting (Novice, Ace, etc.) has a Safe Altitude setting. You can set these very low to get them to come down with you but you run the risk of them flying into the ground during ground attack and dogfight combat as they won't always be able to pull up in time to avoid a crash. -
Corrupted My Files
Czech6 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Messing around or modding I seem to have corrupted a file in WOV. Here's what I get right after the loading screen: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a21/Czech6/img00015.jpg Any help figuring out what .ini file I messed up? -
Corrupted My Files
Czech6 replied to Czech6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's never where you expect it to be. I was trying to see if the AircraftFormation.dll would work in FE and fix the AI formation antics, and I must have did a cut and paste instead of a copy and paste. Lesson learned - always compare the files in the folder of the bugged version versus a backup version. -
Corrupted My Files
Czech6 replied to Czech6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for your help. With the price of external hard drives these days, I've bought two over the last year. I keep a copy after each patch. I may also do a document compare and see if it highlights some minor typo that I've missed. -
Corrupted My Files
Czech6 replied to Czech6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Changed out the complete terrain file with a backup, but no change. Also, changed out the Environmentsystem file. Also, no change. I'm going to install WOV and patch to another drive and start moving my mods over as I'm out of ideas. -
Corrupted My Files
Czech6 replied to Czech6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
October 2008 patch. Can remember what I was working on. I think I was either comparing the ini files in WOV to another TW sim, or doing a cut and paste. I must have had my cursor in the wrong file and accidently typed something. It was only later when I tried to run WOV that this showed up. View controls do not work in that view. I've been swapping out files from a backup copy to try and isolate the location, but with no luck. So far changed out Options, Startup, Viewlist, Flightengine, Missioncontrol, and Huddata. Changed out the target.ini but no joy. -
Anyone know what these are for in the AircraftObject.ini? [Avionics] SimpleAvionicsDLL= SimpleAvionicsData= I can't find these files.

Well, throw those theories in the round file. After more testing in SF2 and WOI, the N28 forms up because I've had to stabilize my flying to allow the wingmen to catch up, same as FE. I'm now thinking it's the AI and a problem either dealing with the slower speeds of the WWI aircraft, or with being in close proximity to other aircraft. I've also noticed that with a large formation you always seem to get aircraft trying to share the same space. I created a squadron vic of vic's from Charles' WWII formation, and after a long period of stabilized flight my wingmen will form into a vic, but the AI doesn't always seem to see the formation.ini. When FE first came out I spent a lot of time changing values in the AIData to the point where I lost track of what effect I was trying for. Plus, I didn't know the function of all the values in the AIData. Peter01 has done such a good job of tuning the FM for dogfighting, that I suspect you can't have a good dogfighter that can hold a tight formation. Those two functions are opposites. Taking a break from theories and watching football now.

Big Al, No solutions out there that I'm aware of (and I'm obsessing over the formation issue). Thinking that the sim engine in Wings Over Israel was similar to First Eagles, I put the Nieuport 28 in WOI. Flies formation just fine in WOI, even at low speeds. Tried putting the formation.dll from WOI into FE and it crashes FE. Also tried WOI's MissionControl, Formation, and AircraftObject ini's into FE. They work but have no effect on the formation antics. I still think it's something in the formation.dll but looking at that file with Notepad and a Hex Editor doesn't reveal anything that I can jump on for a fix. There's bandaid fixes out there involving the AIData and turn rates, but that's not solving the problem. There's something weird going on. If I hit Level Flight right after takeoff my wingman will home in on me and stay in formation. A turn will break that up. Also, had both wingmen thrown out of formation by a hard turn in Autopilot. Took them a while to catch up and I throttled back to slow cruise to speed things up. They both formed up on me in left echelon formation. Testing it, I did a break turn and threw them out. Formation when out the window then. Curious that the formation.ini has different formations, but no way to make the wingmen go into those formations. Maybe it's a radio communications thing. Still working on finding the problem.

N28 AI explodes on runway at takeoff
Czech6 replied to OlPaint01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
OlPaint01, I'm using Peter01's Sept2008 FM fixes for the default aircraft with FE+EP+Nov2008 patch installed. Haven't seen any problems, but I'm no FM expert. Now that I'm getting back into FE I'm wrapped up in the formation issue again. -
N28 AI explodes on runway at takeoff
Czech6 replied to OlPaint01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I have FE+EP+Nov2008 patch using Hard settings. When I install the N28 using default data.ini the AI takes off okay. With Peter01's Sep2008 FM installed it pitches over and explodes. Changed this under the engine section in Peter01's data.ini file: ThrustPosition=0.0,2.0,0.2 to the default: ThrustPosition=0.0,0.0,0.0 Now the AI takes off using Peter01's FM file. -

Which version to purchase as a start?
Czech6 replied to slybelle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Malibu's got a WOV campaign mod that built onto TeTeT's Steel Tiger campaign. It's in the downloads and provides more mud moving missions. Check it out in the campaigns forum. -
Yes, it's a known problem. Talk to Wrench, or do a search.

anyone noticed?
Czech6 replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Malibu, Glad to see you followed up on the ideas for the WOV campaign from last summer. Can you change the AD-7 data.ini so that it only flys CAS missions? PrimaryRoles=CAS SecondaryRoles= -
What's this new section in the MissionControl.ini for? [Distance] MinEnemyStartDist=6000.0 MinFriendlyStartDist=2000.0 MinEnemySkipDist=12000.0 NearPrimaryDist=25000.0 MinimumMissionDist=50000.0 I've noticed a lot more MiGs in WOV coming up and have had to haul butt. Seems like they turn away when I get some distance away. Maybe that's related to MinEnemySkipDist?

Controller button assignments will not work in WOV
Czech6 replied to navychief's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Our e-mails must have crossed. I was intimidated by CH Control Manager at first, but once I had played with setting up a couple of simple controls like flaps and gear and it worked, I got more into it. I could not use a sim without it now as I always set my controllers up to use the same buttons even for different sims and never change the default settings within the sim. That way I never have to learn new key commands. Try setting up your own .map from scratch with a few button assignments. Ghost has a good manual on CH Hangar for learning the basics. -
Controller button assignments will not work in WOV
Czech6 replied to navychief's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Chief, This sounds like a procedural problem with CH Manager. I see you posted this at the CH Hangar. Those experts will be able to help you. However, my two cents worth: After you installed CH Manager, did you use Control Wizard to select the all the controllers you wanted to program (going through the 8-axis, 32-buttons steps, etc)? After that, when you download the .map file from CH Hangar and selected it in CH Manager "Load" button, do you then select the "Mapped Mode" button at the top, then the "Download" button? My CH Manager always defaults to "Direct Mode" when I open it, so I have to select the "Mapped Mode" to get the programmed controls to install. Wait for it to install and tell you that it successfully installed with no conflicts. It will also tell you in the box at the upper right corner the name of the file being edited and installed. It should match the .map file you downloaded and selected. Click some of the buttons and check to see if commands have been installed for those buttons, like "F", "V", F3", etc. If they appear, it installed. If not, it didn't install for some reason. -
Triple Rocket Pods
Czech6 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Finally got this figured out. Started with Sundowner's multiple gun pod mod and tweaked things. You can spray rockets like an M-60 machine gun, but I don't see much use for this unless you have large troops in the open for targets. Requires multiple rocket pod stations to be added to the data.ini and loadout.ini. -

WOV F-4C and D Upgrade
Czech6 replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Bananimal, The F-4C/D Upgrade only included insignia decals. Did you install Mike's two previous tailcode patches: USAF_F_4_Tailcodes and Revised USAF_F_4_Tailcodes? Those small tailcodes are the default TW decals. I had the same problem after a new install patched up to Oct2008. I put Mike's skins in there but forgot to reinstall the tailcode patches from 2007. -
How to create TER's that only carry two bombs
Czech6 replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Malibu, Edit the TER in the Weapons Editor and change the coordinates to set the positions in the order that you want them loaded (and dropped). You'll want the centerline to be #1 position and #2 to be the outside position. My TER has been modified after I read a thread about making the bombs drop from the rack in the correct order with centerline going first. -
