See you on the other side McCain. He was a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him 25 years ago when I worked for Flagstaff. He was in it for the people and the country and not fame and fortune. Sad that the NITH is disrespecting him by not keeping the flag lowered or issuing a proclamation.

Problem with PTO ships
Czech6 replied to warhammer651's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Do you have a full merged install with all the flight sims? The PTO ship package requires a full-5 install. Also, did you install the WWII Nations.ini? That's required also. Sounds like you're missing a ship object and it's crashing when you get close to visual range. Try cycling through the external views after takeoff and see if it crashes when you cycle to the ship views. -

CAT archives utility
Czech6 replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What I did on my theater/era specific installs for Korea and Vietnam was to create a subfolder called "Unused Aircraft" in the Objects/Aircraft folder. I just drag and drop the aircraft folders that I think are unnecessary into that folder, and if I find I made a mistake and need one of those later it's easy to cut and paste it back in the main Aircraft folder. -
Cockpit Textures
Czech6 replied to AJAY67's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
SF2NA comes with an F-4N. If you installed an add-on F-4N you probably have a file conflict with both aircraft data files pointing to the same cockpit.ini file. -
Wingman Radar
Czech6 replied to other444's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I think they turn off radar when you do. Get out in front of them in an aircraft with RWR and turn your radar off and on and see if you get anything showing up from behind you (I also may be thinking of another sim). I have given my wingman and my element attack orders from 15 to 20 miles in Vietnam F-4's and they engaged with Sparrows. -

IL-2 COD problem
Czech6 replied to waterloo's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Try the Cloder fix first as it doesn't take as much effort (the ATAG mods have to be installed exactly per instructions including reboots, etc., but they are great game improvements). Here's a link. Cloder downloads are at the bottom of the first email by sKYO: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=36078 Oh, also if you install Cloder, click that icon to start the game and not the original game .exe icon. -
IL-2 COD problem
Czech6 replied to waterloo's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Here's a thread covering Windows 10 and COD start up problems: https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19207 I installed the ATAG mods and it works for me. The CLODer fix might work. Or reinstalling you video drivers thread may be the fix. -

Is the Steam dashboard giving you this message: "Installing: Microsoft VC Redist Package" ,and freeze up or just show a continuous loading icon? Or, does it just crash to desktop? -
Problem with First Eagles, Not running
Czech6 replied to waterloo's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Waterloo, That's your problem, FE1 doesn't run on Windows 7, 8, or 10. That's why TK reprogramed SF1 to the SF2 series when Windows 7 came out. You can purchase and download FE2 really cheap and it will run on Windows 10. I would suggest you do that. -
Man, that brings back memories. Don't hear the wop wop of Hueys anymore.

YAP Rising Sun with Jul 2013 patch Vietnam
Czech6 replied to regula50's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
My two cents, since I have YAP but have not tried it in SF2. YAP is designed for Wings Over Vietnam (WOV), which is a Strke Fighters 1 (SF1) simulation. If you have purchased YAP you could probably use aircraft, etc. in Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam, but you would have to do some conversion (outlined in the Knowledge Base: SF1 to SF2) to do that. There may be some anomalies. I don't think the any of the YAP single mission or campaigns would work with SF2 Viet Nam without major conversions. -
As to the abrupt angle looping of the cable above the guns, given that these aircraft were manufactured by different companies and countries, the gearbox that I referred to may have a right angle drive for the tach cable or something like that, causing it to go vertical from the gearbox, or maybe they had to use a cable supplied by a different manufacturer that was too long and had to make it work.
-
I would like to change my opinion. I think it probably is a tach cable. Going back to my first photo showing the gearbox and three cables. The handle shown on that gearbox is described in the photo's text as the compression release handle. Looklng at this attached photo of the Mercedes engine, you can see the handle at the rear of the cam shaft on top of the engine (it's much clearer in the book). So, that gearbox as I call it, is coming directly off the engine cam shaft and those three cables would be transmitting rpm's. Looks like the center cable would be to the tach, and the other two the the gun trigger mechanisms. Actually, I'm referring to my second photo and not the first.

I'm still thinking it's for the interrupter gear. A Wikipedia Google of "WW1 interupter gear" says Fokker came up with the flexible shaft system later in the war but that Albatros stuck with their own design of a ridged shaft and cam system. But, higher headquarters ordered all of them to switch to the Fokker system in 1917 to standardized equipment. That may explain why some photos show it and some don't. If they had to buy it from Fokker it may not have fit correctly and the excess had to be shoved up above the cowling. Or, if you have ever worked on a motorcycle or bicycle you know you shouldn't have a short radius on the cables or they will bind or have unwanted drag. Anyhoo, here's another photo from the National Air and Space Museum's book on the restoration of the Albatros D.VA. This one shows the pilots view of the interrupter gear with one cable going in and two coming out to each machinegun trigger. Supposedly, the Fokker system was different and only fired the guns when the bullet path was clear as opposed to the other systems which stopped the firing when the path was blocked.
-
I believe that's the flexible shaft (like an old motorcycle tachometer cable) that runs from the engine to the interrupter gearbox for the machine guns. In this photo you can see the "cable" in the upper right hand corner going into the gearbox. Since it's not consistent in the photos you describe it could be a local preference to pull more of the "cable" up out of the way of the cockpit or engine compartment.

A stupid question for Korean War buffs
Czech6 replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
From that video it appears to me that the four black lines were where you placed the two cross members on the tail section dolly (between each pair of black lines) and the red line is where you placed the tail section dolly's tie-down strap. Center of gravity location would have been much further back than the red line because of the weight of the horizontal and vertical tail sections. Thus the tie-down strap. -
SF2 crashing at startup
Czech6 replied to stuntman's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If I'm reading your comments correctly, you made a copy of the program files prior to reinstalling Windows 10, then copied that back into the Programs folder after the reinstall. Then you re-installed a clean copy of SF2. Is that correct? When you copied the program files did you also copy the Users...Saved Games files and copy them back into their folder? You may be having a conflict between the old files and the new files if you re-installed SF2. I'd rem out the old files (or temporarily put them in another folder) and try re-installing a clean copy of SF2 and see if it runs. Then copy whatever you need from the old files into the new Saved Games folder. -
Someone should buy the rights to the Junkers 52 and reproduce it. That would make a great bush plane. Much better performance and more versatile.

That's a modernized panel, almost has an instrument six pack. I got to fly one of only two Bushmasters which were replicas of the Ford Trimotor that a company thought would be useful in rough field operations (one of the perks of being an airport manager during a fly-in).. It was a beast and a bad idea. The rudder and elevator control was just okay, but the ailerons were tiny and sucked. The control wheel was about 50% larger in diameter than that photo and had a motorcycle size chain instead of the steel cable shown. In a turn you had to crank the wheel over 360 degrees and wait for it to start banking before you could apply rudder. Felt like I was flying the Titanic. During landing the pilot had to wrap his left forearm behind the yoke and pull to flare as he pulled the three throttles back with his right hand (and leaning forward to wrap around the yoke put his head below the instrument panel). The landing was a controlled crash with three bounces while you wondered if you were still heading down the runway as you could not see it. That same aircraft crashed and was totaled later that year in California during another fly-in. Someone forgot to pre-flight and they took off with the control locks still in place.

Have you considered a mole trap? https://youtu.be/6amLwKXHm6w As far as the flame broiled mole trick, you could have just filled the tunnels with the propane without lighting it. That would have suffocated them. You would still need to be careful that the gas didn't get near an ignition source and vent it out later when your kids or pets were not in the yard.

Air & Ground expansion A6 problem
Czech6 replied to BrockyD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
In the Sep2013 update the data files have data lines added to the end of each weapons station and I think this is what fixes the fixed wing tanks: FuelTankNodeName=droptank_outer_L I originally had the same problem and after reading the Readme's from top to bottom found that there was a fix and realized I must have missed a step or incorrectly copied over the latest data files.
