HELP: WoV Install Problem
kout replied to Stretch32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's already patched (click for link to thirdwire forum thread). -
My apologies - my reply was a bit harsh - although I nearly checked to see whether it was the 1st of April. Is your monitor a LCD screen? Widescreen or regular (i.e. width:height 16:10 or 5:4)? What's your windows resolution set to? (right-click on your desktop, then properties, settings, look under "screen resolution"). Is it 1280x768? 1280x1024? Or some other resolution? Can it go any higher? If its 1280x1024 you could opt for 1280x768 widescreen setting (although I don't know whether that's available) but you'd lose a bit of screen real estate. Best, Kout

Did you copy a new MENUSYSTEM.INI file to your \MENU directory? The first section of that file should read something like this: [MenuSystem] StartMenu=MainScreen Width=1360 <--- If this still says 1024, then the program crashes Height=768 ColorDepth=16 TextFilename=MenuText.str TimeDateTextFilename=TimeDate.str MenuDataFilename= FadeTime=0.25 WaitMouseCursor=WaitAnimation

No cropping required: instead of the "paperclip" overlay in Strike Fighters/WOV the frame overlays the picture.

Working on a menu set for First Eagles; don't know yet whether I'm happy with the style (and all those autumny leaves... "we'll be home before Christmas...") Image in the Gallery (1280x1024)

First Eagles Review in April 2007 Flight Journal
kout replied to DWCAce's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Ah - I seem to have missed that you're the author of the article I thought your name just appeared on the next page, but I now gather it would (probably) be down at the bottom of the article... a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, I guess. -

- but they could have named many more - in my opinion it's the new planes, terrains, and campaigns that make the game, not the menus! -

kout replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
crisisloaner, I've just started using GMax to model planes for SF and I found the video tutorials very helpful. I don't know whether you have any 3D experience - I didn't have any - but you might want to prepare yourself for some frustrating moments :) Go here for a bunch of tutorials on moddeling aircraft (both Gmax as well as FSDS stuff). You should also check McFly's for TK's exporting notes, as it contains information on animation and linking parts. Regarding GMax: What I understand is that Gmax models may be exported (with some plugins - see the McFly site) in a format readable by 3D Studio, so you should be able to model the plane in GMax and then have some with 3D Studio import your plane and export it in the SF format. -
Wip On The Bison
kout replied to kout's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Because I think that the drawings that I've got to be the most complete for the tanker version, and this plane is probably best used as a target; on the other hand, the bomber (both M4 and 3M) versions seem to differ the most in the nose section, so... -

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. Indeed, only a limited number were built - and the version I'm moddeling is actually the tanker version of the 3M - not much fun to fly, probably!
