Historical Airfields in OFF - is that possible?
shredward replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I don't get to fly Over Flanders Fields myself, but usually reliable sources tell me that Bertangles, among others are out there. Perhaps drop out of the clouds in your valiant Tros and see what kind of reception you get... Crumpets and tea perhaps? shredward -
Hi All, Does anyone have photos of, or can easily get to, either the Shuttleworth or Yeovilton Bristol Scout? We particularly would like some cockpit shots. Cheers, the shredder

Another update - the Scout D, the one built by the apprentoids, is still at Old Warden, or at least, was there a week ago. So if anyone is in the London area, looking for an excuse to get away from the madding crowds....
-
Just an update - looks like the Shuttleworth Scout D, the one built by RAF apprenti in the early 60's, is privately held, and may or may not be at Old Warden, or may or may not be at the Bristol Aero collection at Kemble. Near as I can tell, the one built by Leo Opdyke is still hanging from the rafters at Yeovilton. If anyone is stopping by..... Cheers, shredward

Thanks Fly, I'll try the Drome - if that don't work, I'll set another trapline or two. Cheers, the shredder

Sure Lewie, every bit helps. If everything was all in one place, life (and research) would be easy. It aint ! Cheers, shredward

Thanks Si, Yeah, we have that photo. It would be nice to get more shots, including the floorboards, rudderbar, and more of the interior. Cheers, shredward

Stay tuned!

We are, of course, well aware of all of this, and P4 will be very different. And we are working on P4, rather than go back and fix all the little niggles that we don't like in P3. Cheers, shredward

"Somme" - Today's photographs of Mametz area

I think it was my last trip, I was making my way up the line from the Vosges, by car on this occasion. I had been in at Verdun, then poked around the Soissons and St Mihiel sections of the front. You always know when you come in from the campagne and are at the Front, and it is not because the architecture is different, or any of those other subtle hints. You truly can feel it. My navigator had out the big Michelin road atlas, but I could sense we were at the lines, and all of a sudden, as we bottomed out in a little valley, there it was. We got out, entered the gates of the tiny cemetery, and all was truly peaceful - it was sunny and warm, birds were singing, but it was quiet. And you could feel their presence. And there they were, all lined up in a row, and I saw that inscription. It truly does make your hair stand up. You are not alone. shredward -
What started your WW1 aerial interest?

I found a shelf full of Biggles books at the Kingston Public Library after I had gone through all the Dr Doolittle books. I must have been about eight. That, and the fact that my Grandfather and Will Barker grew up together. They wouldn't let my Grandfather sign up at first as he had a 'spot' on his lungs. Eventually, the MOs were forced to overlook that kind of thing, and he was in pilot training when the war ended. Just as well, if he had got in at the same time as Barker, I likely wouldn't be here. I see they just pulled the pin on Guitar Hero. -
Like Lewie said. Just upload directly from your hard-drive. Cheers, shredward

Funny you should say that. If I had those four things, I would not be coming back with photos and video. If I came back, and odds are much better than even I would not - and even if I could, why would I? I might have a MM or a DFC, but much more likely I would earn the wooden cross, and be happy that I did. At least I would have fulfilled my childhood dream, which was to be a Great War Camel pilot. Cheers, shredward

I'm not home, so can't check the exact name, but the generic skin lies in the aircraft folder. Cheers, shredward

Hello Stratos, The formulation of PC 10 changed several times as the war went on, and ingredients became scarce. It started out fairly greenish, becoming brownish later. As it happens, the Sandbagger is working on another hue right now. Cheers, shredward

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the cheery news. Regards, shredward

Yeah, the sad part of that was, he actually does have his own SE, and it was done, but due to a logistical SNAFU at stores, it was never issued for OFF. But that too will be rectified. Cheers, shredward

Both Indra Lal Roy and Hardit Singh Malik fly Over Flanders Fields. I can't check right now, but I think I included bios for both - if not, I hope to add their bios, and others, for P4. Cheers, shredward

Got a question from one of the contributors at The Aerodrome, and I don't have a clue how to answer it - there is a reason my colleagues only entrust me with care of the library! And it is this - does he have a hope of running OFF with AMD Sempron 3000, ATI Radeon 9550 and IGB RAM, 500GB HD Hope you can help, shredward

Why oh why would I ever want to give up my glamorous life in the trenches to sign up for that? Yours, Thomas Atkins. -

How come not a lot of modding?
shredward replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
To be frank, and my colleagues aren't going to like me being so frank, but the area we really could use help with is model building. Trouble is, making one is unbelievably difficult, torturous and long. More than a few members of this community have tried, tried long and hard, and then hit a brick wall. It's bloody hard, frustrating, tedious work, and it takes forever, even for such accomplished builders as Winder and Pol. We would love to have all the a/c we had in the RB patches, but it's going to take years. If I had a buck for every model that's been attempted since we started, well, I might not have my South Seas motu, but you get the idea. That is partly why progress sometimes seems so slow. Plus, we still have the rest of the sim to build. shredward
