  1. I was referring to the situation which occurs when one experiences an engine which has failed to operate and the propeller assigned to aforementioned engine does not or is unable to "feather" (to "feather" is the blades turn into the wind rather than bite into the wind as normal, and thereby reduce their exposure to the incoming air stream). In this case the propeller begins to "windmill" and thus is no longer creating propulsion but is acting as an element of drag instead and thus reducing the overall thrust equation from beneficial to determintal. The term has been described as "circular air brake" due to the impact a non-beneficial propeller has to the overall airspeed of an aircraft. My analogy refers to the amount of objects protruding from an F-16I is excessive to the original design planform and are not contributing positively to the aerodynamic advantages of the design. Thus, more drag is created which reduces performance from a comparative design lacking in so many obstructions. This, as I was taught, is referred to as "parasitic drag". There are many forms of drag (as well as lift) and I would be happy to share some of these ideas with you. I apologize if my english is not sufficient to your understanding.
  2. the parasitic drag alone has to be the equivalent of a non-feathered dead prop
  3. Didnt (doesnt) the B-52 use asbestos in the cabin area?
  4. wakari-mash-ita [Amusing in that it blanks out the "romanji" perhpas because the "sh" and "it" are actually together, so had to revert to adding hyphens]
  5. MiG-21

One cannot forget that in the games the MiG-21 can seemingly out turn an F-16 but such would not be the case. The game "cheats" in order to make it more "challenging" for you. Personally I would prefer it to not do that. It is disappointing to fly against the AI MiG-21 and watch it pull away again and again (in full re-heat nonetheless) though when you fly it for yourself the situation is completely reversed.
  6. am having many issues with a set of landing gear. mostly the issue is that have been unable to isolate the pivot points of the wheels despite selecting affect pivot point only in the heirarchy panel. tried to transform, but that caused more issues. also, the gear animation shows up in 3ds, and works for one set of the main gear, but not the other side please help, spent a couple of hours searching 3ds forums and did not find the solution thank you
  7. Thank you, the diagram and the comments that you have posted are very concise and very helpful, gentlemen. Actually, by disrespectful I was referring to the smiley icon which, as I understand it is in the "hey, you wake up" category. Again I apologize if I read his intent the wrong way, but it took me aback. Eh, by exporter notes, please confirm that you are referring to the attached document, and that it is complete and I am not missing pieces of it. Though admittedly, there are aspects that I simply do not understand until impact with the proverbial brick wall and someone of considerable talent, such as yourselves, informs me. Again, thank you for your continued patience and support. 3D_Studio_MAX_Exporter_Notes.doc
  8. Thank you, this is very helpful! Sorry, by wobbly I mean that they look fine and are perpendicular to the tarmac, until rotation of the wheel commences, and then they do not rotate as wheel do (unless the axle is warped). It would appear that they are fine and that the pivot points are aligned with the world axis in 3ds max, though in the game they are fine until they rotate as in a take off roll. Sorry, but I am hesitant to post any pictures for a multitude of reasons, mostly because my efforts remain at the most basic stage and I am rather vulnerable to criticism. Especially after wresting with a gear door for over 2 hours. Also, I do not know how to make a movie in the game, and a screenshot does not really depict the issue (tried already). This has been very helpful indeed! Thank you, gentlemen.
  9. AmokFloo, tried your suggestion, it worked in that transform reset the pivot point of the tyres, thanks! However, now it is rather wobbly and the gear animation reversed (as in the shocks push-out when pushed against by a deliberately hard landing instead of giving in). Capun, thank you also. I did have TCB enabled, but honestly do not understand much about it, any insight would be beneficial and most appreciated. Thank you, gentlemen!
  10. Not to be disrespectful, but "First of all, have you read ThirdWire's Exporter Notes?"...the notes are far from all encompassing, to say the least. While useful, many issues that a novice 3ds person as myself simply are not mentioned in the aforementioned paraphernalia. One has to spend considerable time using "Google" and known forums for many of the tricks / steps that some take for granted. I was simply inquiring here after considerable effort and using all of the tutorials and notes and documents posted on this forum in the fabled knowledge base and elsewhere. Had I perhaps inquired as to why the F-22 does not have automatic opening weapons bays, then I could understand your tone, but as this is not the case in the least, I am perplexed as to your attitude "Veltro2k". Please excuse my efforts...

    thanks!
  13. was looking at purchasing a newer video card but am confused since every forum has threads which contradict themselves. Is 512Mb really better than 256Mb? Seems obvious to me, but the forums are replete with people saying it is a waste, only a marketing gimmick
  14. It is my understanding that the Boeing company does not make everything on a conveyor belt in Kansas either; rather, several production facilities and even some not in Anytown, USA, were to be involved. If Congress reverses the decision, it will be yet another nail in the coffin for the post-Modern USAF's credibility and political clout.
  15. In American politics, during an election year, if someone steps in dog poo then the media tries to tie it to the campaign
  16. First pics of India's IL-76 PHALCON AWACS

I though that this was the PHALCON or at least that the radar in question was of an AESA type rather than a planar array as such would be in a rotating dome
  17. It is very nice that the game now (in WOI) models spins and stalls as this is not only more realistic, but satisfyingly challenging. Thank you for yet another high quality and commercial grade product
  18. Can't sleep...won't sleep.

I could email some of the research papers that I wrote for my MBA--very boring stuff unless you are into globalization and effects on the anglo-american labor force in contrast to the developing Zzzzzz
  19. video card...256Mb or 512Mb ?

thank you, that is very informative. I currently am using an 7600GS 256 and saw that the 7600GT 512 is selling for $90. Of course there are better PCI cards out there but I am still using an AGPx8 system. It seems the best way to get a small performance boost with out a total upgrade would be to change out the video card. The processor is a P4 3.4 HTT with 1.25GHz sdram, I know a long way from a gaming rig, but it so far works for my needs. again, thank you for your very helpful advice.
  20. I read that there is much resentment over selection of the Chinese plane because it is, in design, not much better than the planes they are meant to replace as in essentially replacing a generation 2 plane with a generation 3 plane capability-wise
  21. USAF News

    Sounds like typical Boeing math
  22. Will this work for the Gripen as well?
