I wonder what that will be
Brain32 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hmm, let's see: 1. Cuba - missile crisis 1962 goes HOT, not a bad idea, you go from historical crisis to fictional but completely believable full escalation of the conflict, shortcomings are most notably too little ground for WP forces to stand on, if we put another realistic scenario out of the picture(nuclear holocaust) I think USA could literaly sink Cuba even in 1962. But this is not a bad option AT ALL 2. Korea - NK never officaily proclaimed peace, so one can virtually pull out some kind of conflict out and it will not be too far fetched 3. Taiwan 60's-80's - hmm maybee but I think too many new planes would be required? 4. Middle east - the name says it all, that place was and still is so explosive you can pull out anything there and it will be quite believable! 5. Fictional Bering Straits scenario or scenario from WiC:SA could go quite well. Actually in WiC:SA USA and NATO are fighting in the USA and Germany/France in the same time... Overall I think TK could/should pull out a Libya 1986 scenario, practically all he needs is an F-14... -

NEW RIVERS FOR WOE Causing This

Theese are not my tiles. This is a classic example of how to make easy installation of mods very complicated by not reading the readme.txt files :wink2: -

It's meant for stand alone SF2:E but I don't think merged would be a problem... -

BVR Combat Tactics
Brain32 replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
-RWR is your best friend in BVR engagements, especially the TEWS in SF2 series, not only will it tell you which direction is the threat coming from, but also what it is and to some degree what is he doing(scanning, tracking etc.) -once you know the direction of the threat try to position yourself at highest angle possible to it, 90deg is great for example as missile will have to turn a lot and loose energy while doing it, however AI is in great advantage here and I personally think TK should adjust BVR AI functions a bit, because they can evade missiles in a way you can only dream off and there's other stuff to check out... -with above in mind you might think there's no help, but there actually is, terrain masking works flawlessly What I do is running on the deck at a razor edge of crashing into the ground and high speed then: -pop out a bit higher wait for them to lock you up and fire missiles, hit the jammers, drop some chaff if it does not work hit the deck again, they will loose the lock, if you are persistent enough it can even happen that they spend all their BVR missiles and you have a turkey shot at them. -remember rushing at them head on at the speed of heat will get you nowhere, AI will fire all their AHM,SAHM or IRM at you if needed, completely disregarding other planes in flight or even multiple flights! I had up to 28 missiles fired at me(you can check it out in LOG on debrief screen) and not a single one at other 7 guys in our two flights! -Anyway 1950-1970 is really more interesting as AI shortcomings are not so obvious(game design period) and you don't expect the missiles you carry to hit anyway But in the end, I prefer 80's, 90's so I'm stuck with what we have... -
Ahit vs. Ayit

BTW regardless of accuracy one can change the name of an aircraft quite fast and simple -

SpecificStationCode=AA7 Either remove this from the planes DATA.ini or add it to the missile via Wep Editor... -
What's going on in the Far East....
Brain32 replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I personally have no clue, if Wrench is not working in silence I don't see it happen until I get STT or somebody who has the time to go over target areas. It's a shame really, my intention was to release this baby atleast a year ago if not more -

Brain32 replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I rarely give suggestions to 3D modellers as I have apsolutely no knowledge on that, so please don't take this as me being a smartass or something.. Anyway, if possible please include multiple LOD's(even just one extra can dramatically improve performance), I don't know if many people realize that but that is the mother of good performance while maintaining awsome visuals, you may not notice it with a few planes but when things get busy you really notice the "kick" of high poly models with no multiple lod's and I see that quite a few modellers lately don't really care about multiple lods even some payware guys... Anyway as I previously said, this is just a suggestion, I have no clue how much work is needed for that to be done... -

Brain32 replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
My suggestion to everyone wanting to have old mods in SF2 is: check the knowledge base and do everything by yourself for yourself... -
Yup I waited a long time for it even though I could argue originality and quality weren't lacking and in times when modder status didn't bring as much as now so I can definitely confirm that this status does not come easy...
