LOMAC Reality Check
SJPhantom replied to SJPhantom's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I would agree that it is that much more challenging. It is a bit frustrating when you look at a scenerio where you have British Harriers and A-10's attacking a Georgian port city. One of the A-10 drivers hit the complex and in reality would have been humbled by the damage he inflicted, egressed low to avoid the high altitude SAMS, and got out of Dodge. Instead he egresses low and fly's right back through the muck and gets shot down by AAA. The radar too is much to be desired. You have a flock of 15's orbiting over the water and two SU's coming right at them, ready to mix it up. You would think with the radar the 15 Pilots would have split their formation and set up for a fight. At the very least they would have had a lock-on warning. Nope, they just sat there and all four got splashed. Don't get me wrong, I think this is an excellent game. It just makes me glad I'm not flying feet dry in an F14 with an inferior MIG coming at me. -

Well, I'm beginning to think it's my computer. I went out and bought a new video card with DX9c on the disc and it wouldn't load up. Time to upgade it looks like. -
Direct X 9c

Okay, still looking for the MSI file. I ran the March redist file and downloaded it to a file on my desktop. Named it 9c, then ran the DXSETUP file. It takes 2 seconds and then it says good to go. Go back to DXDIAG and it STILL says 9b......RRRRRRR, I'm about to frag my computer. It has to be Windows. Is it preventing itself from being updated or something weird like that? I keep thinking if there was a way to get rid of Directx all together and then reload 9c..... Or there is some setting I'm missing that is saying No Way Jose...... Or I could replace the existing files with new ones....... I'm about to offer up a reward for the first person who can give me the magic secret to 9c. ....back to finding the MSI file. -
Direct X 9c

Okay, this is a little more complicated than "You need Directx to run the game". No Offense, but I'm running WOV quite nicely, and any other sims that need Directx 9B...see the B, yeah, well, it won't go to C. I've run the install newer version, and I run it and check the DXDIAG and it still is sitting at B. Pardon if I'm a little testy, I am a bit illiterate when it comes to computers, but I'm trying to figure out WHY it won't update so that I can fix it. Going to Microsoft and downloading the newest version isn't going to help me either. I've shot that MIG down a long time ago. I download Version C to my jump drive, take it to my computer and My computer asks me Where I would like to extract these new files to and I don't have a clue because I can't seem to find a Directx file anywhere so I can update it. I'm going to check the MSI and get back to you. -
Viewing Problem

I run a 19" flat Panel with my Wings Over Vietnam and try to get the chase view up. When it comes up, only half the jet shows on my screen. Do I have my screen settings off or is this really what the chase view looks like? -

Oh, and No patches...it's Graphically cut in half too, with an F4E Model I see the left wing half the fuselage, and the left exhaust. I move the mouse, and it's like sorry, you only get to see half. -
Viewing Problem

I only get half the plane. I'll use the mouse and get a good view, but it isn't a chase view like in MS Flight Simulator. (You are right behind the plane) Also, as an example, I will move the mouse when I am coming in for a Landing and cannot get a full view of the Aircraft. It also goes right back to the same half view about a second after I move it. When I go back to Cockpit view, my view is also a bit to the right. I have to move my mouse to the left to square up my gauges and HUD. Thankfully in this mode, the view doesn't switch back to the off to the right view. I keep wondering if my screen is too big...like the game has to be downsized a bit. I'm not a computer whiz so I'm probably not making sense, but it seems very odd that the game would detail out specific squadrons on an aircraft, and then cheat you out of the view. I have to be doing something wrong....The game runs great, but I'm apprehensive about changing something and screwing it up.
