Anyone up for new menu screens?
guitarclassic55 replied to guitarclassic55's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hi kout, You're quite right, way too many files. I'm using a small area to keep the file sizes down, at least. Would have been nice to do it the FRAPS way, but my somewhat clumsy one-by-one screen shot saves kind of gives it an old movie feel, since there are obviously frames missing even with me smoothing things over from capture to capture. Unfortunately the LoopingAnimation parameter is still broken. That would open up a whole slew of nice possibilities. Like most things in life, it seems the more I find out the less I know. -

Okay... so here we go. Thanks for the help. The two screens, one without animation, the other a single frame of the animation. I've also attached a first version of original music for the mainscreen. I wanted something with a little more angst. Just midi converted to wav to mp3, not as clean as I hope I can get the final. Also optional, everybody has their own musical tastes. Hmmmmm.... Maybe I have to write a certain amount, or it gets appended to my last message? If this wasn't so embarrassing it'd be downright funny! -

Gee, that sounds too easy! I'll have to check that out, would have made things easier, for sure. I'm going to try starting a 'part 2' thread first and see if that works, just because I'd like to leave the comments and the samples in the same place. If not, I'll try the demo section. Thanks. -

Is there a cumulative limit for attachments? Maybe that's my problem... if so, how do I correct it? Delete earlier ones? -

Not sure what's going on, can't upload anything else, including the second pic from the previous post.. I'm gonna quit and come back and see if that works. I'm getting a weird "3.11 MB of 3MB used" and "Max. single upload size: 500 MB" messages. Strange. -

Hi guys, just an update on my project... I wanted to do something really special for the mainscreen so I came up with the idea (and figured out how) to put a "movie" on the watch graphic that's part of the page [sort of like RB2]. It's a really time-consuming process -- I get into the flying part of the game, find the action, pause and screen shoot over and over again, then take those screen shots, size them and process them, then add them one by one to the watch, (not to mention blending between two shots to get a third that keeps things smooth) then save them one by one as 111 kb BMP files. It's working beautifully but I'll probably have about 500 to 600 frames, in the area of 50-65 MB of files for the entire 20-30 second animation. I do plan on making it strictly optional for those that want a smaller download. I don't think the animation will have a negative effect on anyone's system, certainly there's no hard drive crunching on mine or cursor slowness, but of course I can't be sure. Attached is the mainscreen without animation, and also with one of the frames of animation showing. I did 110 frames today and hopefully will finish up around Tuesday of next week. This project is dragging on a bit now, I'd like to have something ready for download by around May 1st. -

attachment=9442:campaign_new_3.jpg] A third stab at the campaign screen(s).... Haven't downloaded the latest patch yet, hope my intended menu set will work without any hitches. These remind me of my own desktops both virtual and real, quite cluttered! -

No problem... thought you might be yanking my chain I'm going to try a third version which combines elements of the first two... before I decide. Thanks for your input. Here's a new debriefing screen. -

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not getting a bit too 'slick' and maybe losing something in the process... If you've got a minute, could you let me know which version of the campaign screen you prefer, the one below or the new one in the previous post? Sometimes I get involved in things so closely that I lose objectivity... then I happen to look back and wonder how I got from point A to point B. Does that make any sense? Thanks in advance. -

Thanks to everyone for the continuing support. I think one week was wildly optimistic on my part... but I'll keep plugging along. Here's a couple of screens from a new campaign page. I tried to get most of the pilot badges in there, likely missed a few. -

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I'm rethinking some of the first screens a bit now that I'm getting into the groove more. I'll post the changes as I have them. I'd like to make this comprehensive, including loading screens, etc. Also might add a historical aces page, I think that can be done. Thanks to kout for raising the bar! Hope to have a full set in a week or so. -

A new options page... the radio is from wwi. The watch is 1915, I believe. The movie camera is same era, 1916 or 17. The typewriter is also same era. A bit of nostalgia. -

Thanks for the info, kout. Much appreciated. I have a few more questions and I think you know a whole lot more about the .ini files than I do, so I'll message you. Really neat the way you used the clipimage feature on the pilot record page... I wondered what that entry was there for. -

Have you guys seen kout's new alternate menu screens for FE? I just happened upon them, and man are they great! Very elegant and polished. I especially love the pilot record screen and the options screen. Extremely classy. I'll probably go ahead with mine since I'm enjoying it so much, but I think everyone should check out kout's amazing work. Guitarclassic55 -

Question... does FE offer widescreen support? If so, what resolution are the menu screens in? My install seems to default to 1024 x 768 in the menus, with no way to change it. Just wondering if my screens are going to work in all situations...
