Anyone up for new menu screens?
guitarclassic55 replied to guitarclassic55's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Good question... I'm guessing it's supposed to be single mission. Easy enough to fix. Maybe I can get a few volunteers to look the set over after I finish it, before I upload it to everyone just for this kind of proofing! Thanks. -

I have now received jarkko's very gracious approval. Thanks jarkko! And thanks, peter01 and all for your encouragement. I'm pumped to do a whole set! -

I've decided that since I'm trying to do a whole set, I'll do a new main screen. Does anyone know how to reach jarkko? I'd love to use his excellent wallpaper for the main screen. Jarkko, if you're out there, I messaged you recently, asking for permission to use your beautiful work, with full credit to you, of course. Attached is what I've tentatively come up with... but I'll only use it with your permission. Please let me know if that's a possibility. I would be honored. Guitarclassic55 -

Here are a few versions of the single mission screen. If you're interested and have a preference, please let me know. -
Thanks capun, I'll check it out. Much appreciated.

Sorry capun, I guess I missed the fine print as well... no excuse, just an explanation. I value your work very highly and will certainly abide by your wishes in the future. Guitarclassic55

Will do... sending now. Guitarclassic55

Just found Fe2b.zip in the folder that I gathered all the planes, so I definitely downloaded it recently. Happy to pass it along if someone else doesn't point you to the elusive location... Have you found the Junkers D1 that's used in some of the campaigns? I'm still looking for that one...
-
I just went through the same process that you're going through, and I've just completed one mission in the Bloody April 1917 campaign. It's really well done, I'm enjoying it quite a bit but obviously I'm right at the beginning. I tried to locate the same Fe2b without success just now in the download section... but I have an Fe2b folder so either I found it last week when I was gathering all the user planes, or perhaps it's a stock plane already there? Anyway, if you can't find it, let me know and I'll zip the folder and send it to you. Guitarclassic55

Anyone up for new menu screens?
guitarclassic55 replied to guitarclassic55's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thanks very much, the encouragement will keep me going! This is off-topic, but I decided against going back to the pre-expansion version and stuck with the expansion and your new flight models. I'm currently playing the Bloody April 1917 Campaign in a Tripe, RNS, and I'm having a blast. I also dusted off OFF Phase 2 and played a mission in it. It's a great game in its own right but I noticed the E-III pilot I was dogfighting kept running away or not pressing the attack -- maybe he was just a green pilot. :-) Anyway I love the immersiveness of that game and hopefully some new screens will give FE a little more in that department. Thanks. As for a loadout screen, I haven't gotten that far yet... single mission screen will probably be next. I'm always up for suggestions, though... Guitarclassic55 -
Anyone up for new menu screens?

Hi guys, I've come up with a new Pilot Record screen and done a few small changes to the campaign screen that I created. This is taking a bit longer than I had planned but I'm enjoying it, so what the heck... On the Pilot Record screen, I moved the pilot selection menu over onto the "record" itself. Looks a little cleaner, I think. Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Guitarclassic55 -
Which I'm sure has made the game much more enjoyable for scores of virtual flyers. Looking forward to experiencing your work, and the work of all the other great modders! Now I'm off to try and round up all the planes, your FMs, etc. etc.
-
Thanks, Tailspin. Will do. I'm going to keep my install of FE/EP, but until things get sorted out better I'm going to give original FE with everyone's mods, planes, etc. a thorough try. Peter, sounds exhausting doing all that work and then being torn between the two variants. Looking forward to experiencing your work, getting that incremental increase in performance from aircraft to aircraft as they were introduced, as you mentioned earlier.
-
Forgot one thing, should I patch the original version? Thanks.
-
I'm sold, then... you guys seem really torn and definitely leaning to the pre-EP version. I noticed the horizon problem, too, and the slower frame rates. Are the INI changes for the pre-EP version recommended? My main hesitation is all the work it's going to take just getting everything set up. Probably nothing compared to the work it took on your FMs, peter01, and your terrain and object enhancements, Tailspin... so I'll stop complaining! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your input. Guitarclassic55

True enough. I guess we're all looking for the perfect WWI sim. I recently downloaded and played the original Red Baron on DosBox, mainly to hear the music again and remember what it was that got me hooked in the first place. Honestly, I've only had FE for a week now, the EP for a day less. I flew for a day in FE and I've probably flown a total of 30 minutes in EP... and if I use the next waypoint key, my flights usually last about a minute before I get shot out of the sky ... :-) So I think I'll revert to the former version, mainly because I want to fly early-war aircraft in Firecage's campaign... I'll also try Charles's two 1917 campaigns, they look good. Are your FMs for user-made planes available in one spot, or will I need to download several files? I know nothing about using custom planes or anything yet but I'm sure I'll figure it out as I tackle it. Looking forward to it. Thanks for your help. Guitarclassic55

Two questions, to peter01 and anyone else interested... 1) Would it be possible to add a front-end campaign program to FE, similar to OFF? Would that not be sort of the best of both worlds? I'm not discounting the fact that it would be a major major undertaking... 2) Is my best bet at the moment for playing early war missions and campaigns to do another install of the original FE and forget the EP? I'd like to start early on and advance through the war. I noticed Firecage has a campaign out that does that...? Of course I'd use your pre-EP FMs, peter01. Thanks, Guitarclassic55

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. I'll tweak the campaign menu then set to work on the pilot record menu. I'll try to put a cohesive set up in a week or two. I'll probably not bother with the hangars or the main screen since there are already some great ones out there. Guitarclassic55 -

Okay, so I didn't realize the forum would automatically shrink my pic and provide a link, so here's the 100% version as well. Guitarclassic55 -
Greetings, Forgive me for starting a new topic, I'm sure all of this has been covered before but I'm new to the forum, new to First Eagles, and I honestly would greatly appreciate a quicker way than trying to read through 33 pages for answers... I purchased First Eagles on line, installed it, then bought the Expansion pack and installed it, all yesterday. I also tried to install the newest patch but it said First Eagles was already up to date so I assume that the expansion pack includes the latest patch...? I'm an old RB2 fan but I really like the flying in First Eagles. If it hadn't been for some very mediocre reviews, I probably would have tried it a lot sooner. It has certainly surpassed my expectations. Questions: 1) Will the Cambrai 1917 and Bloody April 1917 campaigns work okay with the expansion version? I'd really like to try those. 2) Could someone point me to info on installing new planes, hangar art, etc. Easy, I'm sure, but still could use your help. 3) I've had some strange things happen... I was flying a single mission and I went into a spin and crashed, no big deal... but then I checked out the other planes in the area. Two Spads were "stuck" in mid-air, not moving at all, with their props broken. They weren't moving or falling, because everytime I toggled through the planes and got back to them, they were in the same place... weird. Also started a campaign mission in the snow and my plane was stuck in the ground with the bottom of the fuselage buried in the snow. Hmmm -- should I reinstall or something? 4) I was sent an activation code for both the original game and the expansion but never had to type those in anywhere... is that standard procedure? Sorry to be a bother. I'm amazed at the quality of the user-made aircraft and look forward to trying some as well as FMs (Peter01 looks like the resident guru), menus, etc. etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
