  1. Gentlemen, Many thanks! I didn't know the YouTube is now used as an education channel as well. It provides visuals and audio rather than textual information. It's realy a good link. Back to the A-7 and F-8 issue, I'll get back to you.
  2. Oh well! Enough fun so far, for the last 5 hours playing SFP1, WoV, WoE. I haven't bought WoI because short of dollars! First impression is very good. Actually I think all three games are comparable to other famous or "once famous" flight simulations. Here are my points: 1) The airframe is well modelled. Most ironical facts are famous simulations like Falcon 4, Enemy Engaged and F-18 do not model a dynamic airframe. When you ride inside those cockpits, it feels like space travelling!! Air turbulance isn't there!! WoI/WoE/WoV/Project-1 has done a great job making me feel like I am riding a jet and not a spacecraft. When you soars at 650knots just 150feet above ground level, the pit vibrating like flying over Tasmania Sea, that kind of pleasure really gives me a hard-on. 2) Ray-tracing is rendered admirably without flaws. 3D work of the aircraft models is accountable to this success to be fair. 3) Waters move and it looks as real as that you find in Enemy Engaged 2. Though splahsed waves aren't rendered when you hug over it at supersonic speed. 4) Volumetric/3D clouds revives realism that affirmed. Incredible work truly. 5) I persoanlly like strike missions because they take hell lots of skill to accomplish. When I was playing EF2000 back in 1995, I was accustomed to low level flying/terrain hugging, running in, release bombs, back to home-plate and final approach (180 knots at 5 miles from runway you know that sort of plan). Not to mention a mission without SEAD cover. Those HARM came into very good use in that case. But I do fancy laser guided bomb (precision bombing) missions. And there are lots of aircrafts these games offer/enable such missions. If only there would be more realistic and meaningful ground objects to be formed a target package in future development. 6) I really like those aircrafts of the 60s and 70s. On the one hand, you don't have very advanced avionics which in some ocassions overtakes your command role. Like in a F-22 you don't really need to do much, just autopilot to the target, drop bombs then contact ATC and you will call it a day. No joy! 7) We can recreate Falkland scenarios, Korean War or the Cuban Missile Crisis with what we have already got here. Expectations: Hope that a few more theatres with more objects. Sometimes, I wish we could have the terrain of Falcon 4 or that of IL-2 and put all the planes into those theatres. And wish one day, we would have some smart AI ground units which they can integrate into the air war and form a ground war while we are fighting in the air, thus constituting a richer war environment. Last, anyone can suggest me a joystick? I really need one since all three games give me such a good impression. My budget is between $100-$150. Since I haven't touched on the technology for a while now... you know..
  3. I just installed WoE and could wait to jump into the Harrier. Fantastic framerate that's one thing. Possibly it is a different engine than that used by Porject 1 (even with Project 1 patched to the latest patch). The experience with the Harrier is incredible! But I have a quick one here: why there are tube holes rendered in the Matra rocket pod whereas there are none on the LAU series? Anyway, when it fires, I wish you saw that. Recall that TV documentary about AV-8 in the Falklands? Spectacular visuals, only TK can do it I suppose, brilliant! Funny thing is that the nozzle which caught me completely out of hand! The last time I played around it was like 13 years ago when I was still a young kid in college. Got Electronic Arts's 1995 product known as USNF. Simulated the Harrier and a whole set of procedure for landing and taking off. Can't recall all of them, things like you had to rotate the nozzle 30 degree and maintain some speed ...etc. In WoE, what I just did was to get to F6 for the external view and press Ctrl+= and watched the nozzle came down gradually while I cut the gas from the engine. And by the way, what amazed me was the heated air around the mouth of the nozzle was simulated in such details...it was transparent air but you could see them discharing out from the nozzle. THKS TK, you really done a good job in the graphics department!! Back to the landing story. I think I really need more work on this one. Yesterday I read from somewhere or watching YouTube about the landing procedure. It said something like if you fail to manage the vector thrust nozzle, the aircraft will stall and slew sideway then be toppled over and IT CERTAINLY HAPPENED TO ME JUST NOW! OH my God, I wished I had it recored and let you watch it, it was so realistically modelled I mean the crash! First the harrier slewed to the right and then its landing gear disintegrated, this tons of metal sat on its nose for a little less than 2 seconds and its left wing was smashed into the ground followed by the aircraft main frame before it rolled over for a few blocks down in the city and finally it caught fire and exploded. It's really fun watching the animation I can assure you! Oh I think I should try another aircraft now. Anyway, WoE seems very good as Project 1 does and WoV. How do I migrade the Harrier to WoV? Is it possible at all?
  4. I'll get back to you later on this one. Got to watch the movie again.
  5. I don't mean to be blunt sorry, but I am pretty sure that's a Cosair. Check the airbrake in the movie and you will agree with me. The Crusader looks very much like the Cosair so it can easily get one confused.
  6. By the way guys, I just flew in the A-6 Intruder. And excuse me for my mimicking about the trivials. I find flying the Intruder a lonely man!! Check it out: May I make a suggestion here : if you would make a dummy pilot next to me at least, I really feel lonely travelling long distance you know. Even G-2's Enemy Engaged cares to make one like that, and it is an well animated one! Just a thought.
  7. How silly of me! I installed WoE first. No wonder I was not asked about a merged install. Anyway..I tried the Harrieagain. Is it normal that it doesn't have a radar MFD? There are no MFDs in the cockpit??!!
  8. That's strange, no such option showed up. But anyway, as far as a merged install is concerned, do we get theatres combined after the "merged installation"?
  9. When I installed WoE, it said nothing of the sort: I mean a merge install of WoE and WoV?
  10. I bought all three of them - Project 1, WoV and WoE. Very impressive. Just now I have installed Project 1 without applying patches.(Where can I find patches for Project 1?) Despite it is a product of 6 years old (released 2002), the graphics is ingenious, way better than any other hard core simulations I have ever seen except the IL-2 series. Fantastic! I can fly the F-104 StarFighter. I read from somewhere that this aircraft had once been equipped with air-2-air nuclear missiles. It was ridden by George Bush Jnr. when he was in service with USAF I take it. Despite it is classified as a soft-core military flight simulation, its panel and pit designs is not sketchy at all. The ground radar is looks like real: I have my video card settings max'd out. And in=game, I have the graphics details max'd out as well. This is what I have come up with. (N.B. I have saved both images as .JPG resolution was taken from 1600x1200x32). Check carefully, the graphics model is so fine that almost every part of the model is nearly perfectly curvy. The tank gallon looks almost completely spherical: Can anyone give me pointers where I can locate the history of this flight simulation, it looks very impressive to me. I am so glad to have it in my possession.
  11. So a shadow is not really an eye-candy thing is it? Well then it doesn' tmatter now. Strange about the framerates. I have just installed WoE to see if it is the same and framerate in WoE is better than P1 with the patch applied. Yes I like the zipper. It has an interesting history. Despite it is now a retired jet fighter, it had its own glorious history despite a shortlived one. Many thanks!
  12. Fubar512: Many thanks for your pointer. I check my ATi D3D settings, they are same as yours. Everything just max'd out. But did you say "shadow anomalies"? So I went into the Options>Graphics Details Level>Shadow. Previously it was on and I sort of betting on my luck, changed it to off to see if it did any better. It did indeed! The anomalies were gone. What exactly does that setting do? Actually, I did a reinstallation and ran the game out from the vanilla version. There were aboslutely no such problem. But there were many many other problems like the autopilot did silly thing, it would transit to next waypoint, no fly-by view...etc. Then I patched it to 8.30.06. And prior to that I thought something wrong with the DirectX 9.0c so I took the advise from ThirdWire, install DirectX 9.0c Aug 2008 version. Now the framerate is not as good as before DirectX change! A bit laggy with all the settings the same as before. Would Omega fix the "shadow" problem? If so, do I have to uninstall Catalyst first? Should I revert back to the previous DirectX version to redeem the smooth framerate I had before? And what eye-candy I am losing without have the shadow setting turned on?
  13. Wait wait wait! I have got Riva Tuner. It reports my Catalyst driver is 7.1. Anyone up here know which driver will remove this anomalies?
  14. Events took over in the last 15 minutes. I patched it to sp051506 which I believe is the latest version dated 2006. I really love SFP1. For years, even Falcon 4 never gave me this - FLOATING/DYNAMIC COCKPIT/AIRFRAME while I am cruising. This is so realistic. Perhaps only 1 flight simulation I know of simulated this properties - Joint Strike Fighters by Eidos. It is not a commonly known flight simulation though. Oh this is so great! But can anyone help me with this graphics glitches, when it occured, it flickered like a bad TV reception. Yet it occured only at certain pan angles. When I pan to some other angles, it disappeared. God, I realy love this game! I like the eye-candy, I like the flight model, I like the variety of aircrafts and there are so many addons I have not explored yet. Please help me to fix this problem so that I can enjoy the flight! My video card is Raedon X1950Pro 512MB RAM (AGP version) and the Catalyst driver is..(how do I get the catalyst driver version?) Your help will be greatly appreciated! P.S. Thanks GR.Viper and kukulino!! The screenshots folder comes with the latest patch. The vanilla version of the game doesn't support one. And know what, after patching I can ALT-TAB to switch between Windows and the game. Good stuff!
  15. Many thanks for your pointers. I am returning from CA section just now. There are so many patches for SFP1 I don't know which one should I apply. Fortunately enough, you have pointed me to thirdwire where the patch selection menu presented m with only 2 patches. I guess the first big one should be the SP4 patch equivalent in CA. 74.3MB should be the right one I am after. I bought all of them lest missing something I will regret later. Besides, I believe some aircrafts with corresponding cockpits and flight models might not be there in WoV and WoE. So what are the differences between SFP1, WoV and WoE. Are the graphic engines the same for all 3 of them? What about AI and online gameplay? Where do I connect to online players? Years ago, I played EA's USAF online and it was great fun and great graphics. Anyway, it is a whole new world here. Just a quick one: are there any folders which SFP1 contains screenshots when I hit the PrtScrn key on my keyboard? I searched the directory structure of the installation trying to locate a folder like screenshot but in vain. If the default installation does not support a screenshot folder, can I change the .ini files to cater for a printscreen action?
  16. I learnt from YouTube some very impressive visuals of WoV and WoE. The followings are what I have watched. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uMy0wwWNQoM http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vW-n6nVYsZQ Just have a couple of questions before I go buying the games. (1)I have a Raedon X1950Pro 512MB(AGP version) video card which is running the Catalyst driver. Would that be compatible with the game or a nVidia card is much better? (2)Does every flyable aircraft in the game has its own flight model and cockpits? (3)Is there a Mission Editor for user-edited missions? (4)Can ground object move or they are just static objects for ground bombing missions? (5)In the 1st video the Harrier was climbing to its take-off altitude. I noticed that its vector thrust nozzle discharging fumes of hot air presumably. Is the vector thrust nozzle a moving part of the 3D model of the Harrier in the game? (I really love it and am impressed!) (6)The 2nd video showed a F15 dogfighting with a MiG-23. I have noticed that the F-15 airframe appeared to be shaking when it was doing a hard break right and its airspeed dropped down to 154 knots. Does the game simulate air turbulance? many thanks for your reply
  17. column5 is really informative, many thanks! My friend who has the same rig as mine, PD945, Raedon X1950 Pro and 2GB DDR1 RAM. But he got some flaw graphics here->http://photoshack.com/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0 column5 is really informative, many thanks! 18. My thanks are beyond words! Thank you for your quick reply, it helps me to make mydecision. If I purchased WoE, do I still need to have WoV and SFP1, I suppose all the aircrafts in SFP1 and WoV are included in WoE is that correct? Also, is MiG-21 a flyable aircraft in the game and does it haveits own cockpit?
