Smoke from the engine
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No luck. I used the stock F-15A as test aircraft. However, if I choose to play the Single Mission (i.e. generated by the game), the plane has no trailing smoke. Now I am a bit confused. Which file controls the trailing smoke I wonder? In custom-made missions, trailing smoke is there, in mission generated by the game, no trailing smoke is present. What should I consider next ? -
Smoke from the engine
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Really appreciate your caring to reply, thanks. So is it possible to do an ini edit to get rid of the smoke trails? If that is possible, which ini file should I start working on it? -
But be careful if you have kids at home. The game has some really pornographic scenes like this one which appraches XXX rating in my humble opinion: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33330.html

Would there be a MiG-31
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's REALLY interesting to check out each every little part of Russian's MIG's cockpits. Talking about the MiG-31 rear cockpit, that is a scaope in the middle isn't it? It looks very much like a scope. I'm imagining what the co-pilot does using the scope.... -
Throughout this period of time during which I have been through all the excitment and thrills the games have given me primaritly I believe due to the outstanding graphics compared to those I played before and the easy modding which is one of the great properties of this series of games. I wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt apologies to those who out of my naive understanding of the game and its background are offended by my online manner and language which afterall I must admit is not my first language I mean English. I AM TRULY SORRY! I PRAY GOD GIVE ME THE STRENGTH NOT TO DO THAT AGAIN AND WISH THAT THE GAME WILL PROGRESS WITH MORE AND MORE LOVELY AND AMAZING FEATURES IN THE FUTURE IN CONTRIBUTION TO THE FLIGHT SIMULATION GENRE WHICH IS GETTING QUIET ONE OF THESE DAYS. I also like to apologize for the mistakes and overlooking of some of the already known materials and knowledge which ultimately leads to my childish wordings hurting many of you who are so enthusiastic devoting your effort to improve and develop the games. I AM SORRY. Best regards Basher11

BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I checked it more than 10 times in the last few days. There is a problem with BVR. I can tweak all the possible parameters to make AI fires upon another AI at say 50nm range. But the firing aircraft only fires one of its missiles. Then it never fired again until both aircrafts crossed their paths. Then they engage dogfighting. Also, the missile self destroyed itself before it hits the target. What makes it sef destroy? -

So in WoI, #2 AI aircraft follows the #1 AI aircraft closely? Can you confirm me with that? -
Wingman won't engage
Basher11 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Is the AI of Wings over Israel better than SFP1/WoV and WoE? I think wingman won't enegage in the other 3 games is due to less capable AI. If I buy WoI will that sove the problem? -
Wingman won't engage
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think many readers on this forum have misunderstood what the problem I am getting at. The wingman or more precisely #2 aircraft does engage but only at close range of its AIM-9 IRM or its gun. What they fail to comply is firing medium range missiles like the AIM-120C or teh AIM-7E. Do you understand? And all I am talking about is an AI flight group that means all the aircrafts in the flight including the lead aircraft are AI aircrafts not the player lead flight group. I hope I dont need to repeat all these pre-conditions again. Look, don't get me wrongly. The patch is perfectly okay as far as a flight is lead by a human player. He can command the wingman to engage "my target" and thus giving it a air attack command. What the game lacks may be is a command "Engage Air" instead of "Engage my Target" issued by the human player to his wingman. But when it comes down to AI flight groups vs AI flight groups, all these BVR stuffs dont fit together at all! IT BECOMES A WITHDRAWING FACTOR FOR US TO DESIGN CAMPAIGN WITH GOOD IMMERSION. -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Alright Gentelemen, Here is my findings. As far as BVR engagement is concerned, no matter what I do, in an AI flight of 2 aircrafts, #2 aicraft never engages like the #1 aicraft does. I have tried reverting to code level 051506 still no joy. Looks like it is a problem of the coding. The only solution I have for this is to make all flights contain only 1 single aircraft. But tis arrangement lacks sufficient immersion. If anyone works out a better solution, I would appreciate if you would post it up so we can share it. Thanks! -

Wingman won't engage
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Alright guys, I have sent out Mayday mesaages more than 5 times already and this is getting me mad now, I am frustrated. I thought this forum is very friendly and poeple are willing to help out the hopeless (me int his case). And I have posted in more than 2 diffrent topics but people seem not understanding what I am saying. Now I think I will do this/ if this doesn't help I will go get WoI to see if it does any better. Attached please find a zip which contains F4M_DATA.INI F4M_LOADOUT.INI VIEWLIST.INI WEAPON.INI MIG-21 PFV.INI and the mission Nouvelle Mission.msn which is testing the BVR combat. Put them into your folder and you will be riding ina F-105D which does not belong to the F-4M flight package. So both the F-4M and MiG-21 are 2 diffrent packages and they are both AI aircrafts. The tweaking done to the F-4M will enable it to fire AIM-120C the moment the game starts. The problem you will observe is that Cobra11, the F-4M lead aircraft will engage while changing its course towards the MiGs but its wingman Cobra12 continues to its designated course 090 indicating no wish to engage at all! That's the problem I am talking about all the time. Supposingly wingies even not engaging together with the lead should not detach from the formation. Please post back what you think and reckon many many tons of thanks!!!! Nouvelle_Mission.zip -
Wingman won't engage
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm sorry, it might be a meaningless question. But I want to know what are the range of values apart from SINGLE_EVENT for the TYPE variable in [Control060] Name=PREV_WAYPOINT Type=SINGLE_EVENT <----------- I always think this has something to do with AI lead aircraft communicating with its flight group. The reason I want to buy WoI is because I would tend to expect that an AI lead aircraft would command its wingman to fight at the same time with it. Right now, out of SFP1, WoV and WoE, the lead AI aircraft engages while its wingmen just having "tea" now that is unacceptable! -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Puff! No luck at all! I still can't make an AI lead aircraft instruct its wingman to engage the air just like what we do by pressing the comms then select wingman then engage air. Does anyone has any clue? -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That is exactly what I thought. Now then we have to find out what "orders" these idle aircrafts recevied? Or via what channel they receive such orders? Formation.INI? -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Lexx, I certainly will continue. I still believe what I am doing right now will be useful in case we need to set up a Gulf-War campaign or Balkans campaign. Stick, you are right, I am now "borrowing" the Raptor's avionics file. In the file, there is a section which specifies the radar properties and they are all modern era variables. I guess they will be accountable for BVR actions. Regarding Maxvisibledistance I think we should not be too "superstitious". It doesn't really mean "visual distance". Having said that, Inclement weather doesn't affect the fire-ability of the aircrafts. This one has been solidly tested out I can confirm you with that. WHAT IS TROUBLING ME RIGHT NOW IS THE IRREGULAR IN FIRING PATTERN OF A FLIGHT GROUP. IN A FLIGHT GROUP OF 2, THE #2 AIRCRAFT NEVER FIRES AT BV RANGE. IT FIRES UNTIL THE WHOLE FLIGHT COMES CLOSE TO THE ENEMY'S. IN A FLIGHT OF 3, #1 AND #3 FIRE BUT SOMETIMES, THEY FIRE AT THE SAME TARGET SOMETIMES THEY FIRE AT DIFFRENT TARGETS. AND #2 NEVER FIRES AT BV RANGE. IT FIRES UNTIL THE WHOLE FLIGHT COMES CLOSE TO THE ENEMY'S. IN A FLIGHT OF 5, #1, #3 AND #5 FIRE BUT SOMETIMES, THEY FIRE AT THE SAME TARGET SOMETIMES THEY FIRE AT DIFFRENT TARGETS. AND #2 AND #4 NEVER FIRE AT BV RANGE. THEY FIRE UNTIL THE WHOLE FLIGHT COMES CLOSE TO THE ENEMY'S. SO ODD FLIGHT NUMBER OF AIRCRAFTS FIRE EVEN DON'T!! WHY? I am stuck at this point and can't move on with my experiements. -
Do you have UberAI V2.0 file?
Basher11 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I downloaded it from the Download section. But the file is said to be corrupted and won't open. Does anyone has the file ? Would you be kind enough to send it to me via our PM system here? -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Found something new. It has somethign to do with the aircraft number. In a flight os 5 MiGs, only 1, 3, 5 fire missiles at BVR against the Phantoms. Aricraft #2 and 4 are slack!!! Why is that so? Confused! -
BVR Combat revisited
Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You are quite right! Do let me share the result of my experiemtn with you. I have finally get aircrafts firing at beyond visual range. I proceeded to test the AI behaviour further. Set up is 2 x MiG-25 carrying R-77(modified). 6 x F-4J (default). I was riding in an F-104G very very far from the battlefield. The lead MiG-25 fired its first R-77 and shot down 1 F-4J. Then it fired its second R-77 and down another one...until all 4 R-77 are exhausted. Because there are 2 x R-73(modified) the second MiG-25 never fired any missiles until both MiG-25 and all the remianing F-4J came into close range and they kissed then each other in turn. I changed the the set up in another experiment. Now the 2 MiG-25 are not in the same flight. They were separated. I expected 1 MiG-25 will take 1 F-4J and the other MiG-25 will take another F-4J. The result was disappointing. Both MiG-25 now fired almost together but they were tracking the SAME target. So that means 2 R-77 were used to kill 1 F-4J not a productive attack agree? The 2 MiG-25 only engage separated targets when they get into close range with the remaining F-4Js. This is my findings so far. I am quite disappointed. Everything is almost perfectly done in this game except AI aircrafts behaviour specially BVR combat!! If you say this game is for the 60s and 70s, why introduce WoE with all the modern fighters then? -

Basher11 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No, no no! You don't understand at all! I am investigating or testing the game if you like. You don't want to design a campaign in which all the advanced fighters use mid-range missiles like the AIM-120C or the AA-12 Adder at close range do you? What I am doing currently is testing AI aircrafts Vs AI aircrafts. I can lock up and fire upon any targets when I am riging in an F-15C, but that scenario is AI vs Human or Human vs AI even I am with an AI wingmen. What I am testing right now is AI aicrafts' BVR capabilities vs AI aicrafts' BVR capabilities. And I find that AI aircrafts on both sides only fire once at Beyond Visual Range. The other times when they fire upon each other is when they are at close range like 4 to 5 nm!! I would like to know how to tweak the game so that BVR becomes more realistic. -
Do you have UberAI V2.0 file?

It is a .rar file but it reads as a zip so I didn't realize I had to use WinRAR to open it. It's alright now. Thanks! -

How to make the game better
Basher11 replied to markkyle66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
A good Su-25 is also a great great plus to the game. I do admit that to make the game more sophisticated means putting in extra time and effort. But I think the community yearns to see something which can group things up and get them all fit in well. On top of my head, I can think of a GCI link feature which brings all the Russian SAM linked up for covering up a larger gepgraphical area for Early Warning. This feature if operable and implementable should make the game more immersive than ever before.
