Lot of questions Please some advice
quack74 replied to Ace of Spades's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
You have to make a "Sounds" folder at C:..User/../../FE2/ Sounds. Place all the unpacked sound files here and any new ones. Then extract the "SoundList.ini" from your FlightContents folder. Place it outside of the FlightContents folder but keep it in your main "Flight" folder Add the new sounds you like (if they have a different name) and then add the next consecutive numbers for the new sound. You'll see how it's done for the others in the SoundList.ini. If the new sounds have the same name as the original then only overwrite the original in the new main "Sound" folder only. -

I personaly put all my aircraft , stock and add-on, in the new /Objects/ aircraft location. That way I can add skins or new flight models to them all easily. I also added a short cut folder on my desktop of the C:/....SavedGames/ Thirdwire/ FE2. That way I dont have to always go to My Computer/ C: Users/ etc, etc Hope you get it working -

Sounds like you're doing it right. But lets see. You should have your aircraft skin folders in this location: C:/ Users/ name/ Saved Games/ ThirdWire/ FirstEagles2/ Objects/ Aircraft/ **all aircraft here***/ **all skin texture .bmp's, Decal.ini, and TextureSet.ini's for each particular aircraft here***. That's all you need to do. If you add a skin to a particular aircraft, just drop it into the aircraft's main folder. The game automatically finds the TextureSet to get the aircraft info. If a skin has a Decals.ini folder "D", then that "D" folder has to go into the main Decals folder (you'll have to create this folder) here: C:/ Users/ .......FE2/ Objects/ Decals/ **aircraft name**/ "D" folder here. If you have this setup right, then I cant imagine why your skins wont show. -

Hello Ace of Spades. Lets see what you need to do for FE2. First you'll need the CAT pack utility to unlock your game files: http://combatace.com/files/file/10458-catpack-archiving-utility/ Once you open these locked files you can select any file you want to mod and place into a new folder under the files main name. For instance if you pull out an unpacked effect file from the "Flight Contents" in the main Flight folder, you'll need to create a new "Effects" folder to put the newly modified effects file into for the game to see a change. Again you'll have to make these new folders. Here is where you make them: C: / Users/ your name/ SavedGames/ Thirdwire/ FirstEagles2/ ***any new folder goes here***. Folders like the Flight folder and the Objects folder are already there for you. Just unpack the "ObjectDATA" files (CAT files) or the "FlightContents" files (CAT files) in them and just place these files outside of the CAT folders but still inside the main Objects or Flight Folders. It sounds a bit confusing because it is at first. It takes a little time to get used to what has to go into what folder. But everyone here is very helpful when it comes to these problems. I'm not sure if I was clear or not so feel free to keep asking questions until you get it right. It took me awile too. Hope this helped a little. quack74 -
Just thought it was amazing how the RAF totally destroyed my airfield. It was awsome to watch. I actually had to land somewhere else. BTW I wasnt in that Naval 9 Camel. I was just scrolling through the aircraft around the airfield to get a good shot.
-
It was a busy mission. As you can see I was forced to land in a field. Note in the first couple of pics all the DH-4's, F2b's and Handly Page 400's to the upper center spinning out of control. Action everywhere. It's great.
-
I use them for the stock planes too and as for the embarrasing issue, That's usaully how it ends up for me too
-
I have Peter01's FM's for all my aircraft and I'm using FE2. They seem to be ok. You'll need them too for any add-on aircraft.
-
Wow Bandy, thanks for the detailed response. But.... I tried pasting what you have above into my Terrains folders' DATA.ini. But still nothing. I have exactly what you wrote in my DATA.ini files. And I only overwrote those lines. I'm stumped.

Ok, In my /Saved Games//FirstEagles2/ here, I have a "Flight" folder. In this flight folder I just drop in any "cloud.tga's" and or new "Horizoncloud.tga's" and even a new "EnvironmentSystems".ini. The game will read these first as long as they are in this new "Flight" folder. If you already created a "Flight" folder, just back up everything you have in there already. Then add the new "clouds".tga's. If you havnt created or added any cloud.tga's before then the new ones you want to add should be the only ones in the folder. As far as the Pup. Make sure the "Cockpit" folder is in the main Pup aircraft folder. Not the skins folder.

Depends on what side of the line you two landed on. One of you might want to start thinking about running.

Are those Jasta 5 skins in your D5a folder or your D5 folder? Because your Jasta 5 aircraft is the AlbatrosD5a. I think those Jasta 5 skins are for the D5. Unless you changed them. And make sure the KnownAce texture names are spelled just like their folder names. Check that out. I dont want to insult your intelligence here, it's just that I've made that mistake a couple of times myself. Sometimes it's the simple dumb things. Try changing the Jasta 5 aircraft to an AlbatrosD5
-
sinbad, how did you get the GothaGIV .LOD to open up using this program? Every .LOD (for FE aircraft) I try to open causes the program to crash and close.
-
I'm sure you both would have a lot to talk about
-
Well I'm sure I can help with this one but first let us know if you're using FE1 or FE2. They have different folder structures. So some things go in to different places.

Something I noticed in random missions
quack74 replied to Bandy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I've done intercept missions and have come across bombers, two-seaters, and fighters as well. Most of the time the fighters have bombs though. But I have come across fighter that just want a good fight. -
Funny how it's ok to stab someone or something in the face and have blood and guts gushing out all over when using a PS2 or Xbox console. But for historically real sims mostly made for adults it's not ok. Hmmm.
-
Only the DATA.ini has the [KnownAces] added at the bottom of each aircraft squadron or Jasta entry.
-
Javigato, There is a Campaign DATA.ini as well as a Campaign Configuration Settings.ini. The "Data.ini" has ALL objects that are involved with your campaign. The ConfigSettings.ini controls the user planes. In the config.ini you have to create a nation, Aircraft type, and all the text files that go along with your Jasta's or Squadron's missions. There's more but I'm not at my PC at the moment. I cant remember everything. But If this helps, then good. If not let me know and I'll Post some examples for you. Try downloading some campaign from the FE download section. And see how the other guys did theirs. Thats how I started. There are a bunch of parameters that I still dont know what their meaning is. So by no means am I a Camapign building expert. But I'll do what I can to help.

As of now there is no way to create a wounded or dead pilot. It's not in the game programing. ThirdWire didnt want to make the game to appear too violent and graphic. I can understand that. Kids are playing this simm too. But there is plenty of violence and blood and guts in console games made for kids. Go figure. I for one would rather see a slumped pilot than no pilot at all.
-
I think that's the only way to add a pilot's name. Ex: create a Jasta 11 using the FokkerDr1, and make the default texture "Jasta11". Then at the bottom create as many "KnownAces" as you like. If your first [KnownAce001] is Manfred von Richthofen using the texture "425/17 early" (one of mine) and your second [KnownAce002] is Hans Weiss using the texture "J11 Weiss" then these two will always appear as the first two aircraft in the first flight in all Campaign missions for Jasta 11. If you only have these two as [KnownAces]'s and the mission calls for more Jasta 11 aircraft the campaign will use the DefaultTexture of Jasta11 (which you typed in above) to fill in for the needed aircraft. My campaign is called "Cambrai 1918". It uses all of my skins from PfalzDIIIa's to Fokker Dr1's and Camels and DH-4's etc etc. I've created dozens of Jasta's and squadrons. All with historically accurate markings and all the correct names of a bunch of known pilots and aces. So If I decide to fly in a CamelF1_130 of Naval 9, (Using my 4 Naval 9 Camel skins) I can fly over the front and see formations upon formations of DH-4's, RE-8's, HP400's Halberstadts and Hannovers, Even GothaGIV's too. Fighters are everywhere./ It's actually an awsome sight to see. Literally the sky would be full of fighters and bombers. Explosions everywhere. Even ground forces being engaged. But the best part is being in my blue trimmed Naval 9 Camel and going up against Fokker Dr.1 aces of Jasta2, Jasta11, or Jasta6. or Pfalz Jasta's like Jasta 16b, Jasta10, or Jasta29. All have their custom skins and pilots names to go with as [KnownAces]. It's awsome.
-
Just some pics of Jasta4 Pfalz D.III's. It's one skin template with random decals to create multiple skins. Most are real markings. There will be about 10 mixed in with the stock Jasta 4 markings. This is a WIP so it should be ready for DL soon.
-
:blink:I just realized I need to create another "nation" for the Pfalz AC that have lozenge camo on the wings. The black crosses dont show well without the white borders. Argh!
-
Here is how it looks. Note the Albatros D.V has normal markings for the same mission and the Pfalz D.IIIa's have no white borders. And the last pic is the Staaken formation a little more spread out.
