With that being said bucky, for some reason my Strutter rolls like an F-16. And with hardly any rudder it always falls out of control. I wonder why I'm the only one with this rudder problem. Changing the deflection values had no effect at all.
-
Thanks for the fix Panama Red. As far as adding more deflection, it doesnt seem to have any effect on the yaw value at all.
-
Excellent work! She's a beauty! Those new rear gunners that you guys have been installing in all the new planes are amazing. So realistic looking. I seem to be having a problem with the rudder though. The rudder appears to be reversed. I tried reverse oriention and nothing seems to work. Right rudder yaws the plane to the right just the physical rudder is reversed. How do I correct the rudder oriention? Also, the rudder seems to be almost useless. Not a whole lot of reaction when adding full rudder. The plane tends to do a very slow barrel roll with just the rudder rather than the desired yaw effect. Other than that it's a beautiful model. Nice detail and skins. The new clerget sound file is a winner too.

You will need Peter01's flight models for all those add-on planes found here in the CombatAce First Eagles download section. Simple copy and paste install. Nice of you guys to join us here .

Nuf said? Hardly. Everyone who uses FE or any other Thirdwire sim has every right to be concerned about their add-ons. And not just the planes. A lot of us have contributed a lot of our time, including you Tailspin, to make this game what it is today and creating those add-ons. Terrains, effects, add-on planes, add-on ground objects, a whole lot of flight models, and a whole lot of skin work for the stock planes and add-ons. All done by people like us, the "user". I never said it was TK's problem, but, If you release a sim that is open to user modification, then you should be considerate in the work that the modders have done to make your game even better than the release, for free. Tk can and I'm sure will use all the users' (us) work to create the next EX Pack I'm sure. And why not? I'm sure nobody would mind that at all. It's all good stuff. What ever problems ThirdWire has had in the past with third party developers and their add-ons really shouldn't be our problem either. The fact is is there are a lot of people out there with those add-ons and have done so much work to keep them going and improving them. They contribute greatly to this sims success no doubt. I for one have done a lot of skin work to add some historical realism to those "add-on planes". And I would be pissed (pardon my English) to see them be rendered useless. Again. I mean no disrespect at all towards ThirdWire or TK or even you Tailspin. I'm just voicing some concern about this Sim that I and others enjoy very much. What's wrong with that. I'm sure there are a hundred other guys out there that would write the same thing. "Nuf said"? My wife doesnt even talk to me that way . We have every right to complain about this topic. We're not exactly bitching and moaning here. You always get mad at me when I have a comment or a complaint . If you create an open game for users to mod and install add-ons and ultimately share those mods and add-ons, then keep in mined most users, new and old, will have a game full of mods and add-ons. Just like you and me. Nuf said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's really the flight models I'm worried about. All the other things can be fixed fairly easy. I have a lot of add-on planes that are not supported by ThirdWire and may be potentially useless. That would kill the game for me. Waiting a year again for a patch or another Exp Pack or even someone to use up all their free time to correct the flight models (like Peter01, God bless him), just would turn me off a bit and I'm sure some new users. Before Peter01's flight models I was going to quit FE. Too much work to do to get things right. Very very time consuming for a game. More fixing than playing. We're all lucky we have a whole bunch of great, smart people here that contribute their time to get things right. Cheers to you all. That's why I'm still here. To be honest, It becomes kind of fun to fix and alter things. It's addicting. I don't know. Just give use some awsome planes.

Hey don246. I definitely would back up the FE I have now. I like the way I have it. The problem with another Expansion Pack is this (for me anyway),I'm sure there will be new effects, sounds, aircraft, new environmentsystems.ini and flight.ini files, etc, etc. There will some files in this mix that might be really good and make things better. But there might be things I dont like in these files. So of course now I would have to mix and match a whole lot of files and change certain number values and God forbid wait for all the new flight models from Peter01 . If there is one thing I and others have learned here is you change one thing it messes up another. I just hope TK takes this all into consideration. I hope. We have all spent so much time adding things and fixing things that I think if the next Expansion Pack messes things up it might scare a bunch of people away. I dont think I would spend the same amount of time fixing things the second time around. Well , yeah I would. It is kind of fun. Anyway back to the point, Yes back up your version of FE before installing anything. All of it.

I read that too. TK's models have so much detail. Be nice to have an accurate DIII and DIIIa. I did so many skins for the A-Team version already. Almost hate to do them all over again. I didnt realize so many people were having problems registering at the A-Teams site. Too bad. What gives over there? These guys are missing out on a lot of WWI aircraft because of it. I've gotten a couple of harsh messages from them before because of comments I made about their aircraft. Seems to be a very touchy topic. I guess we cant have or opinions . Actually I'll probably get som sh$% for saying that too. They seem to be ok over there if you get on their good side. I guess they've gotten burned by people stealing their models and posting them elsewhere. I helped them out with their DH-4 model and Capun1950 was really cool with helping me out with some issues. So I cant really say anything bad about them. They must have their reasons for blocking people from their site. About that next expansion pack, is that going to be another $30 bucks. TK should be paying people from the CombatAce forums for spending their time improving his game and figuring out all the problem. It only took us three years of moding and skinning. Just kidding! I must say though, the last Expansion Pack and patches messed up all the flight models and made more than half the planes useless. Also changed some effects. I have the game just where I want it now. I would hate to install an Epansion pack that screws up all my add-ons. What if the Expansion Pack reverts everyones files ( flight, effects, and objects) back to default settings????? I've added so many mods that I would never know how to get it back to the way it is now. I'm sure you all feel the same.

That's awsome! They look great! Cant wait to shoot them down . The skins look amazing. Definitely an essential WWI aircraft. That rear gunner looks awsome. Looks like he means business. He looks like he cant wait to shoot me down Too bad some older models dont have this gunner. Like the Gotha GIV, and F2b.and others.
-
I dont understand why some of you guys cant log on to the A-Teams site. Were you banned? It is just a skin not the complete model. I cannot post the complete model. It isnt mine to post. Just the skin work is mine so thats all I can post. Have you guys ever downloaded any other aircraft from the A-Team? They have some good WWI models there. And with Pete01's flight models they're even better. Sorry to here there is a problem. On another note, I'm glad you other guys like it. Thanks

These aircraft and their color schemes were used from March of 1918 to the end of the war. Commander of Jasta 18 was Ltn. August Raben. The DH-4 was shot down sometime in mid 1918. It was captured intact and repaired. It was repainted in Jasta 18's red and white along with the Jasta marking of a black raven. Also reported was a captured late model SPAD. Also repaired and used in Jasta 18 colors. That SPAD is not included in this pack because I'm not a 100% sure of this. 1. Ltn. August Raben (commander of Jasta 18) 2. Ltn. Hans Muller 3. Ltn. Heinz Kustner 4. Ltn. Hans Shultz 5. Ltn. Gunther von Buren 6. Ltn. Kurt Monnington 7. Black Chevron - pilot unknown 8. Black Band - pilot unknown 9. Jasta18 10 Pack
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
If you want to use the Jasta 18 DH-4, first make sure in the single mission screen you select the DH-4 as the main aircraft. Then for the Nationality select German. For the date I would select any date after June 1918. When you come to the Load Out screen, make sure the 1rst DH-4 has German nationalityand it's the Jasta18 skin. Then for all other DH-4's change to any other Jasta 18 fighters, DVII's or Alb DVa's. I'll have a Pfalz DIII for Jasta 18 soon. When the mission starts the user plane will be the DH-4 with German markings. If you use the DH-4 as AI in a flight with Jasta 18 DVII's just make sure the nationality for the DH-4 is German. I hope this is what you mean -
I'm working on eight Fokker DVII's of Jasta 18. Since the stock Jasta 18 DVII was marked like Ltn Raben (all red fuselage) I thought I'd fix it for everyone. While I was at it I figured I'll do the known skins. But there is one DVII that is supposed to have a black and white striped tail. The same style as Jasta 6 aircraft, Straight lines parallel with the fuselage. If anyone has any info please let me know. See the pics below. There are a few with tail markings already and one is Ltn Raben's.

Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Man, that close up of Kustner has the best close up of a Jasta 18 raven. I wish I had that photo before so I could scan that raven and use it on my DVII's. Oh well. I'll use it on my Pfalz DIII's and my other J18 Albatri. Thnks bucky. -
Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Ofcourse I do! I love new pics. As far as that DVII pic, I'll try it with blue and green. Then we'll see what looks better. I also have to do a Pfalz DIII in Jasta 18 colors by the way. It should be a DIIIa but we only have a DIII. The guns are above the fuselage so it's almost a DIIIa -
Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
First off thanks again for the compliments bucky. And no I have not seen that photo before. Very cool, I love to see new photos. That one is pretty unique too. Possible blue would look nice. Too bad I didnt see this one before I put out the 10 pack. Could have been an 11 pack . I'll add it into an edit. Thanks again. That light shade of grey is a lot of times a green too. Just like Jasta 5. Hmmmmm. Light blue would look better then green anyway. As far as where I found these profiles, mostly on the internet. And some written descriptions as well. I dont have any DVII books yet, but I've seen a couple in book stores near me. Took a free peak inside . Saltfiskur sent me a couple of pics that helped me clean up a couple I had already done. There are a few other pilots I know about but dont know what their planes looked like. -

Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Wow I think you got me on that one. It seemed to me that the curve of ,what I believed to be, the aileron of a Dr.1 was off the port side and not at the center of the wing like the DVII. Also that curve seemed to big and deep to be a DVII from that angle. Other photos show it a bit smaller. As far as the hight of the wing I agree It probably would be higher if it were a Dr.1. But the photo is a bit blurred and from the angle is hard to tell. And the middle wing trailing edge started out from the fuselage about were the ammo feed came out of the fuselage and curved away. So the middle wing wouldn't be visible from that angle either. But since you have showed me the DVII photo to compair, I think I'm leaning towards the photo being a DVII. Wow good thread. Thanks bucky Good stuff man -
Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
If you look at photos of a Fokker DVII, you'll see the trailing edge of the upper wing goes straight across from starboard side to port side with the only indentation being over the cockpit. The ailerons are flush with the trailing edge as well. The photo in question shows an upper wing with the port side aileron curving out and away from the trailing edge of the main wing, as does a DR.1. Considering the time of the photo, post march 1918, Jasta 18 at first had Albatros DVa's and Pfalz DIIIa's on strength. Along with one (or two) Fokker Dr.1. Then in mid to late 1918 (not sure of the date) Jasta 18 aquired some Fokker DVII's. So Jasta 18 did operate a mixed bunch of planes. But the only one out of the bunch that has this upper wing design was the Fokker Dr.1. That is why I think that the photo is that of a Fokker Dr.1. I must admit at first I too thought it was a DVII. -
It belonged to Ltn. Otto Kissenberth in late 1918 when he flew with Jasta 23b.

Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thanks bucky . Good I dont have to do that one over. Those DVII tail planes are in eight different pieces on four templates. It's a bitch to do. That Kurt Monnington looks cool. I'll have to do that one for sure. He had an Albatros DVa that looked the same back in the spring of '18 along side Raben's Dr.1. Awhile ago I posted some Dr.1's of Jasta 18 before I knew there was only one, Raben's. But searching theaerodrome.com's forums there was a thread a few years back stirring up the possibility of there being a second Dr.1 that was involved in a ballon attack. It was reported as being shot down. As we all know now Raben's Dr.1's fuselage was three quarters red with a white raven and a white tail. There are a few pictures of this plane around. But, I've noticed, in Paul Leaman's "Fokker Dr.1 Triplane" on page 174 top left there is a photo of Ltn. Hans Kunster of Jasta 18 in a Dr.1. The Dr.1 clearly has the markings of a Jasta 18, red to the rear of the cockpit and white aft with the wing tip of a black raven on the fuselage sides. Now, this clearly isn't Raben's Dr.1. And if it was Raben's, why go through the trouble to paint it more red with a white raven. The only other aircraft Jasta 18 had at the time were Albatros DV's and Pfalz DIIIa's. If his was the only triplane, he wouldn't have had to distinguish it from any other. Right? unless there was a second triplane. Then he would have had to paint his differently. There is a photo in the same book on page 159 of a Jasta 18 line-up. The first plane is Raben's Dr.1 479/17. The red streching past the cockpit but no white raven. It appears to be black (possibly). So I think there were at least two Dr.1's in Jasta 18 after the change over with Jasta 15 in March 1918. Maybe the one Ltn. Kunster was sitting in was a reserve aircraft for Balloon duty. The photo does appear to be taken in a hanger. This has been bugging me for some time. There has been so much dissagreement over this issue over the years but nobody has ever mentioned the different paint schemes in these Jasta 18 photos. Both photos being in the same book. Jeez was I trying to write a book with this thread. Where the hell did that come from????? Anyway, Jasta 18 Fokker DVII's coming up soon. Thanks guys. -
Jasta 18 Fokker DVII tail question
quack74 replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thanks for helping out bucky. The one with the three pointed star i believe belonged to Ltn. Kustner. And I did the tail with a diagonal black and white striping. Is this wrong? Should the tail be staight blk and wht stripes? I also read that Jasta 18 had captured a DH4 and a SPAD and had them repaired for use. They were reported to have been painted in Jasta 18 red and white with the "Raven" on the fuselage. I'm working on a jasta 18 DH4. Looks very cool flying with DVII's as escort.
