Interesting research on Oscar.
Gatling20 replied to TSMcQueen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
There are newer and much more accurate Ki-43 Oscar models, both Ki-41-I and Ki-43-II, included in the DAT PTO all-inclusive mod, and they seem to have incorporated this research. They are Gen2 models, though. The Ki-43-I has one 7.7mm Type 89 MG and one 12.7mm Ho103 MG, and the Ki-43-II has 2 x 12.7mm Ho103 MG. -

We all know who Major Gant is. But you are still advocating theft, which is against the rules around here, as I understand them. For what its worth, I've never had any trouble with the DAT site, either in registering or in downloading things, such as their Viggen. -

Mako69 posted: Skunkworks is right they stink! He thinks hisass doesn't stink, but it does. Perhaps we could smuggle somebody in there and steal it. We need Maj. Gant for this. Hey Mako, you should be careful, this board has a no-tolerance policy for theft and piracy http://combatace.com/topic/66613-piracy/ -

Great looking aircraft! And I love the weathered look of the skin - she looks like she has seen plenty of late nights over the Ruhr. Decal folder empty for me too, though. -
WW1 Airfield Maintenance Objects
Gatling20 replied to Geezer's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
I think the Airfield maintenance Objects zip file might be missing a BMP file. All of the objects in that zip file (crates, cart, ladders etc) seem to use a file called Maintenance Stuff copy.BMP, but the zip file has no file of that name (or any other BMP file). Great objects, though. -

Great model and cockpit, thanks guys, but is this a beta release or the final thing? The skins seems fairly primitive, and the folders are cluttered with a whole lot of TGA files which aren't needed, like SlowProp.TGA, FastProp.TGA and ClearCanopyGlass.TGA, and there is a longer-distance low-poly LOD but it isn't used by the main INI file. -

Halifax! -
All ground objects, not just complex ones, require LODs, don't they?
-
It will be good to see these in the sim. I would hate it if they were just vaporware, is there any time line on release?

How do I convert Horse Power or Kilowatt into SLPowerDry=?
Gatling20 replied to dtmdragon's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Engine power is measured in Newton for jet engines (the non-metric unit is Pound-force), so an A-4E Skyhawk with a 8500 lb-force engine has SLThrustDry=37809.9 in the sim. But for prop aircraft it is measured in derived force (Watts, or horsepower in non-metric units). So for prop engines 1000 hp is SLPowerDry= 745699.9 in SF units (Watts). -

I don't want to rain on Cocas' parade, and maybe it is the angle of the screenshot, but the nose of that Spitfire V looks awfully short and stumpy. -
Airfield runway lightOn setting 0.25 0,50 or 0.75 ?
Gatling20 replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
It is not a proportion of the day, it is regulated by the ambient light level. If you look in the EnvironmentSystem.INI file you will see that the ambient light level (SunLightLevel=) varies depending on the time of day and the weather. Day=0.99, Twilight1=0.8, Twilight2=0.35, Night=0. This can be modified (i.e. reduced) by weather, the multiplier being 0.82 for Overcast and 0.7 for Inclement. So if you want the lights on all the time set this at 1.0. If you only want them on at night set them at 0.25. If you want them to come on at dusk you could try something like 0.85. -

Custom language?
Gatling20 replied to tonipm99's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
No harm done, that is one of the the beauties of SF/WoX - you can mess around with extracted files as much as you like, and if you screw something up all you have to do is delete the edited file and the sim reverts to using the stock file in the CAT file. -
Custom language?
Gatling20 replied to tonipm99's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
The files in MenuText.CAT are all .STR files (except for one TXT file), so I assume it is STR files you have been editing. STR files can be easily edited using a Hex Editor, but you have to understand the structure of the file and it helps be able to add and subtract in hexadecimal. If you get a number even slightly wrong the edited file won't work, and the sim will CTD or freeze, as you have experienced. Using your hex editor, look at the start of a STR file. A simple one is ActivityLevel.STR, which only has four entries: 1A00 0000 0400 0000 5458 545F.... The 0400 is the number of entries in the file. The 1A00 (26 in ordinary decimal numbers) is the length in bytes of the text descriptions of the four entries, including a zero after each one, which you see at the end of the file (Random.Light.Normal.Heavy.). So if you change the length of any of the text descriptions (changing "Heavy" to "Massive", for example, you have to change this number: in this example from 1A (26 decimal) to 1C (28). 5458 545F is the start of the name of the first entry which the sim uses (TXT_MENU_ACTIVITY_LEVEL, in this example): 54 is T, 58 is X, 54 is T etc. -
Crash when loading Instant Action
Gatling20 replied to Azref's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
A problem with Instant Action is usually caused by a mismatch between two files, Options.INI in your main StrikeFighters folder, and InstantAction.INI in the Flight folder. Check your Options.INI file for these lines: [instantAction] AircraftType=F-4E_75 You need to make sure that this is an aircraft that you have available in your Objects/Aircraft folder. Now check the file InstantAction.INI in the Flight folder. It should read: [AircraftMission001] AircraftType=F-4E_75 If there is a mismatch, or if the aircraft specified is not one that you have available, Instant Action will not function. -
The cameleers of the Desert Mounted Corps - outstanding! That really is a first, in any flight sim, AFAIK.
