I like my FE2 just as it is. This thread reminds me of my Wings of Prey game. That is an amazingly good WWII sim but I stopped using it 3 years ago when one of the updates (1.0.3.7) from Gaiijin resulted in it not working on my system yet AGAIN! I just reinstalled it and it took a couple of emails to tech support this week to even download the latest version (1.0.5.1) and 24.5gb. I wonder what the next update will do to this install. Some of the initial things that users asked to be fixed still have not been either (cockpit views in bombers). Meanwhile the company has released open beta of War Thunder. They justify the many bugs with ït is only a beta release this time. You guys are so right, make games open to serious modders and let them fix things. Well done all you modders!

Nice. I live next to a GA airport and like walk my dogs along the perimeter. They often have Yak52's and Nanchings flying overhead from the Warbird flights company. They also have crop dusters outside the hangars but monoplane ones, the big ugly yellow guppy looking things. Always good to watch the planes thundering overhead.

The Spad and the Albatross, 2 of my favourite steeds. I fly on very rare occassions in Rise of Flight as a member of the Skeleton Crew (SC_Zester). We hve an ACE skinner in there called SID. Look what he did for me, note the Zester name under the cockpit and the symbol on the tail

Magnifent work. The only negative I think is the plumes of smoke looking too similar and uniform from 2 mins 49 seconds onwards. I would imagine this could be a program limitation.

I absolutely loved WoW. I had a squad of 6 up and running and spent many afternoons shooting each other up. As you said it looked like the developers were going to develop it into something realistic but they did not. The missions were very challenging, the audio between pilots was funny and interesting too. It reminded me of Flight Unlimited, another MS Flight Simulator beater that died an early and unwarranted death.

I did a recon last night and I was thinking that my altitude was probably far too low at about 400 metres. What altitude did they really fly in most of those missions?

I was wondering if it would be possible for us FE folk to issue a sort of Frank Luke challenge where a pilot has to shoot down 3 balloons and 2 defending planes in one successful mission using any of the 3 current WWI sims (either in ROF, OFF or FE). I was thinking it would be easy enough to monitor in FE because we can screen dump the de-briefing screen, but not sure if it would work for the others. Thoughts anyone?

I tried it again and no I still could not see the upward firing lewis firing upwards, so I am not in a position to comment on your shots fired situation. Have you tried doing this sort of thing using ROF (Rise Of Flight) and their new weapon mods? I do not usually fly in that sim but I do have it so might give it a go too and see if it works.

I copied that SE5a_data ini file into my users/gary/savedgames/thirdwire/firsteagles2/objects/aircraft/SE5a and then went balloon busting to check it out. My wingman and I killed the balloon and a defending Albatross but from the external view I could not see that my over wing gun was firing upwards. I am wondering if I copied the file into the wrong directory or if there is another step to take.

Hi Buddy, Welcome to the happy band of FE users., and I am sure that the hard working modders will provide you with all the WWI eye candy that you can manage. I guess you are aware that there are planes you can get for this sim that no other sim has. In particular I like the Austrian ones, especially the Hansa/Phonix star strutters.

I flew a couple of those this morning for the Austrian side and was pretty surprised that I managed to knock out some Archie with my machine gun. In reality was that possible? I figure if I hit the ready use ammunition it might have been.

What sized drone and what speed was it going? I would assume that firing a machine gun at a WWI plane might be a bit easier than firing at a fast moving modern target, but I might be wrong. I do recall watching a bofors firing on my parol boat at a target at sea and it was either dead on or 3 miles away depending on the roll of the ship at the time :-)

Thank you very much for that. I love those Austrian markings and just finished a successful recon patrol in it although we were bounced by a couple of spads and lost a wingman Easy to fly and land which is great for me too!

Hi Lima, Always impressed with your screenies. Particularly the clouds and lighting. What time of day and what cloud settings are using in the first screen shot with the Nieuport please? I just tried a couple of different ones in a balloon busing expedition but could not get the same look as yours.
