For whatever reason I've been thinking lately about a WWI sim. I checked out a review of FE and it basically said what I've seen other reviews of "unpatched" sims like WOV & WOE. Both TW games I absolutely love so I'm confident FE would be no different. Especially knowing this site and all the patches, skins and aircraft I've downloaded for those two titles. Having said that I wanted to get some feed back from fellow combat simmers about FE. Is it worth buying, tweaking and patching? I have IL2 1946 so I'm very familiar with lead and three second bursts. So....is it worth it? PropMech

Tomcat skin issues
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have always loved the tomcat which is odd seeing in how I'm a blue suit wing wiper. Anyway I've run into a problem with the VF-143 Punkin Dogs skin. The markings are only showing up on the right side of the aircraft. I installed it per the readme so I'm not sure what has gone wrong. Any Advice? PropMech -

Anybody explain how to effectively use the HARM missile in WOE? I remember seeing a post here about it a while back but now I can't find it. I can't get the friggin' thing to track to a ground target to save my life. PropMech -
WOE F-15 external stores question
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey all, Got another question for the tweakers in here. I've patched and added a weapons pack to my WOE install. Everything works fine but for whatever reason my sidewinders and drop tanks on my F-15 "float" inboard of the pylons. Not sure what caused the shift so I wanted to see if any of you have ever encountered this and know of a fix. Thanks in advance. PropMech -

That did the trick! Thanks Malibu I appreciate you taking the time to verify. I just flew a quick mission and everything is sitting beautifully on the rails. Can't say enough about the way you and everyone else here have helped me since I joined. Thanks a million. Clear skies and good hunting PropMech -

Having a problem with a laser designator
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I can't seen to get the AVQ laser designator to show up on my available stores list in WOE. I've completed the install and ran the weapons editor and I have the other items in that d/l. I've looked in the knowledge base and found it very helpful. I followed the tutorial and was able to make everything else work but that AVQ. Any suggestions? PropMech -
1946 Resolution
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Hey all, Got a question regarding IL2 1946 resolution. Theres no option for 1280x1024x32 like in WO*. Is there anyway to mod the game for this resolution? After being spoiled playing WOV and seeing how sharp the picture is I'm having trouble dealing with the fact that even though IL2 is absolutely incredible WWII sim the picture just isn't as a good as WOV. Thanks in advance. PropMech -

Quick single mission question
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Got everything up and running and now I have a question about setting up single missions. I want to take the hornet and eagle up against MiG-21's but the only aircraft it will ever let me fly against is the MiG-15. I tried messing around with the mission years which seems to work but then the operational years for the F-86 disappear. Is there anyway to select the aircraft you fly against and still have all the operational years intact for all aircraft? PropMech -
Quick single mission question

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. Do I have to change it every time I want to fly a different jet against a MiG-21? -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Got an issue with the A-10 ver 3.0 and F-14D add-ons. After unzipping and installing both airframes in WOV, I found them just fine in my inventory however the load screen for both aircraft gets to 80% and then I get a black screen and an error message. I've deleted and reinstalled the A-10 a couple times to no avail. I've rooted around the knowledge base but can't seem to find any similar topic. Any advice you seasoned modders can give would be greatly appreciated. Propmech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
After reading all your posts and doing some research on my own I finally installed everything in the correct order and I've adjusted the operations years. First let me say thank you to all of you who have posted and given me a hand. You guys are awesome. The game is working great and all the aircraft I'm installing are showing up and working pretty much as advertised. Something weird though when I use the SU-27 and F-15. While I'm still sitting on the runway I get a call from red crown saying mission complete RTB. Anyone every ran into to this? PropMech -

Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok, well after feeling really dumb for not realizing I had to delete the entire directory I cleaned out everything, reinstalled WOV and sure enough it worked. Show of hands, who saw that coming? Anyway, I read a reply by Malibu43 saying that there are only two patches I need. I followed the links provided in the reply, thanks I appreciate that BTW, and installed them. I also took Wrench's advice and made two separate folders, one modded, one not. Now I bought the game a couple of years ago so I have no idea if it's been patched or not, I don't think it has. After installing the service pack I get an error saying that d3dx9_30.dll could not be located. It looks to me like it's refering to Direct X. I followed the link on AC to the lastest download of Direct X and installed but I'm still getting the error. I have the .cat extractor and thought it might be something that needs to be extracted but couldn't find anything to do with that d3d9_30.dll. I'm going off memory for that error BTW but I'm pretty sure thats what it looks like. I also looked in the mods and patches page and found a few patches and updates for WOV. What of those if any do I need? I'm sure you guys are getting tired of reading questions from me but I'm new and treying to learn. All I can say is thanks for all the advice and help. PropMech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Now nothing works and error messages abound. I get missileobject.dll, singlemission.dll, and campaign.dll errors. Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing. Whatever was there causing problems in the first place is appearantly not within the game anymore. I don't really know where to turn at this point. It's starting to seem like a total loss. Looks like I need to read those readme's a little closer next time. I have the extractor and I've extracted everything I can possibly think of. PropMech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I didn't realize there are only two patches so thats probably where at least some of my problems are coming from. So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and I'm having problems still. When I read the error message it tells me that theres a problem with missileobject.dll and singlemission.dll. So I'm now down to deleteing everything I have for the game from my D drive and then reinstall the game again....Man have I screwed this sim up somethin' feirce! But I will prevail!!!! Thanks for the advice Malibu43. Some really nice guys on this site. PropMech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I never thought about having another copy on my desktop, I'll be sure to do that. The op system I'm using is windows XP. With all the horrible things I've heard about Vista there's no way I'm using that thing. I'll jump on it and see what's working and then go from there. PropMech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok, after feeling like WOV has become a total mess on my computer I decided to reinstall it. So, what I have now is the game plus patches 1,2, & 3. Let's see if I can get this whole thing figured out step by step. From adding the extractor to adding all the aircraft regardless of era. I d/l'd the extractor as you suggested but ran into problems. It is now reinstalled and I think ready to go. At this point what would you suggest I do? PropMech -
Another aircraft add-on issue
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The error message reads that an error has occured and if I want to send an error report or not. I haven't touched the op years and I have no idea if I need any weapons packs or not. All I've d/l are the aircraft. As for the extractor tool I'm new to this so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Afraid I still need someone to hold my hand to fix this. Mind taking me through what I need to do step by step? I mean come on, I work on an aircraft built 30 some years before I was born not the raptor. I need help troubleshooting these fancy computation machines. PropMech -
Adding the B-58 to WOV
HawgEngineMech posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Gotta quick question for you guys about adding the 'ol B-58 to WOV. First off let me say that I'm new to combatace and I love this site. I had pretty much written off WOV until I starting playing around with again a couple of weeks ago. Then I stubbled onto to this site and saw the potential for add-ons and skins this game has. I really can't say enough about the wonderful job you all have done in making add-on aircraft and skins. A special thanks to you f-100 skinners who've helped me love flying the hun even more. So, thanks again. Anyway, long story short, I was kicking around here last night and found the B-58 add-on and knew I had to add it to my aircraft inventory. Any super sonic strategic bomber that made the ruskies so terrified they made us sign a treaty forcing us to cut 'em all up is an aircraft I want to be able to fly. Plus, it's simply a beautiful airframe. This brings me to my issue with the download. I unzipped it to my objects-aircraft folder as per the readme and then eagerly started the game to go fly. Only to see it wasn't to be found. Can any of you tell me if the hustler can be added to WOV and if it can is it a flyable aircraft? Hopefully I just have my head up my third point of contact and done something wrong with the installation. In any case if you guys could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, PropMech -
Adding the B-58 to WOV
HawgEngineMech replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yep, thanks for the help and while it's a beautiful aircraft I'm sorely disappointed that it tops out at 559 knots. It's either 559 or 595 but either way I was really looking forward to popping VC ear drums on a supersonic low level. Now all I have to do is give my hustler some teeth with a good weapons package and I'll be good to go. Have to root around the weapons downloads for some ordinace. My next order of business is to download the A-10 for some real ground and pound. I downloaded column 5's but it just doesn't look quite right to me so I'll try the a/c add-on here. Of course, being a 130 engine troop I'll have to get around to downloading the Herc. Again I appreciate the help! Clear skies and good hunting, PropMech
