Do you think UAV's should replace pilots?
jomni replied to scouserlad13's topic in Military and General Aviation
um... most UAV's still need a pilot. and that's how I feel the future should go. going completely pilotless is scary. -
Irritating radar on top right of screen
jomni replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hard settings still have the floating radar. You can also just do Alt+D twice to get rid of the clutter (no modding required). -
Not a bad game. Quite fun. And it's relative cheap too.

Irritating radar on top right of screen
jomni replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I prefer ther corner one than the one in the actual cockpit because it is easier to look at. Its not realistic but there is less need to pan the view, which is distracting. Standard cockpit designs in this game has the radar far away from the HUD for some planes... unlike to games like Falcon 4 where you can see the HUD and the whole top part of the cockpit with 2 MFDs. I don't like playing TW games in F2 view as the pipper is too small. Easy to get a hang of flying other planes because radar location is standard. -
No A-7 Corsair Squadron in default SF2:Europe?
jomni replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Or you can rename your campaign so that they can co-exist with stock. campaign.ini shows the palyable squadrons. campaign_data.ini shows all the details of the units. Create a "Campaigns" directory. Please check the knowledge base section of the forums. All the info is there. -
So what's been going on?
jomni replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Most are busy converting SFP1 mods to SF2 standards. There's a nice Mig23 pit (for SFP1 series) floating around with a working HUD. -
Wingman
jomni replied to Ice Man's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sometimes wingmen cannot handle the flight model of the plane. I remember when the A-10 pilots keep crashing to the ground when SF2:E was released. Fixed by the patch. -

just don't crank it up to full detail. some are complaining that it is sluggish in XP compared to the old series. -

I had the same problem with the weapons pack a few weeks back. The lods are there but the data files do not point to the lods (necessary when you have many lod files per weapon). Just edit them. Info on how to do this is in the knowledge base. -
Not running out of fuel?
jomni replied to i fight by 1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Did you try flying around at military and afterburner speeds without warping (Alt+N). I think Alt+N does not cosume fuel. -
How simple is "simplified"?
jomni replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In hard settings... the capabilites of the plane, weapons, and radar is quite realistic (we get a lot people asking how to use the sparrow properly in this forums). What is simplified is the operation. Hate to tell you the bad news... but targeting a ground target using EO or laser guidance, you just press the magic 'E' button to cycle targets (but it's not "all-knowing" and can only target objects in your field of view). In more complex sims, you need to manually scan the horizon / radar and lock the target yourself as you have indicated. Same thing with air targets ('Home'). If you ask me this simplification makes the game more fun as you concentrate on the combat tactics and not get overwhemed by operating the systems. Yes, you can run out of smart bombs ;D. Ground units also don't go on offensives if they have low supply. But SF2 is more challenging in terms of supply if you play Mercenaries (where you have to buy each and every missile, bomb, and replacement planes you take to the field). Harriers do proper V/STOL with thrust vectoring. But it's quite tricky to do when fully loaded with bombs. There is CCIP for more modern planes. Helicopters use "cheated" flight models. AI helicopters will take off as per normal planes (roll along the runway). We have Tornados and Strike Eagles. Just not upgraded to SF2 standards at the moment. Finally, I prefer stock than 3rd party anytime. But adding stuff is fun and addictive. -

MiG-31M & BM Foxhound SF2
jomni replied to Brain32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Thanks again for converting stuff to SF2. But in my graphics settings, the plane is quite bare. Soviet red stars don't appear as in the screenshot. I'm running at medium texture detail. I guess it will appear on High. -

A lot of 3rd party planes don't show the canopy open once the pilot bailed out.
