  1. mind blowing google maps/earth location

I like how the flight line at Minot AFB is blacked out so people can't count B-52s, at least it was a few years ago, I also haven't looked at other bases to know if they are like that.
  2. Fighter pilots make movies, bomber (attack) pilots make history.
  3. Please ensure an empty field outside of the defense ministry is an assignable target, you know, for the ultimate realism.
  4. H.A.W.X.

Yeah, me laughing at the comments was not a dig at the possible "fun factor"
  5. H.A.W.X.

The comments made me chuckle a bit
  6. VVS Without Red Star?

It's OK, not everyone can have good taste (I kid)
  7. VVS Without Red Star?

But that is the best part! And the animation at the beginning, and the driving of Ипполит!
  8. VVS Without Red Star?

I'm not really into Sci-Fi, but the story is good.
  9. VVS Without Red Star?

What is more impressive though, that aviation progress or the filming of the greatest movie ever made: "Ирония судьбы, или С лёгким паром!?"
  10. F-15 ? swing fighter

This is an exact quote of what the Air Force said. It was the first dedicated Air Superiority Fighter since the F-86. What it was used for is besides the point, I was just restating what the USAF said.
  11. F-15 ? swing fighter

The F-15, from the beginning, was designed to be an "Air Superiority Fighter" in addition to what sparkomatic said, it was also introduced with great fanfare as the Air Forces' "First dedicated air superiority fighter since the F-86." The entire program was due to the MiG-25 and the incorrect thinking it was a highly maneuverable air superiority fighter. The Lightweight Fighter program had nothing to do with "multi role" it was because a group of old fighter pilots now with procurement jobs felt the F-15 was not maneuverable enough for dog fights, and felt the Air Force needed a tight turning lightweight dogfighter. The initial order that lead to the YF-16 and YF-17 was for a small, highspeed, low drag, lightweight pure fighter with no bomb racks.
  12. 20yrs ago on the 13th of Feburary 1989

Wow this was 20 years ago already? I remember this on the news. If I remember correctly you hear "good kill, good kill" (I haven't watched this youtube yet)
  13. You have the best avatar on this site, just sayin'.

  15. I don't know what you are really wanting, but this is what was drilled in my head for years regarding a Soviet styled Motorized Rifle Regiment. 24-36 Hours before an attack you get the Div Recon which is a Tank Platoon, a BMP Inf platoon, like 4 BRDMS and maybe a GSR conducting recon, and counter recon. 4-12 Hours before the attack you get the Regiment's Recon operating confirming the Div Recon and providing better intel to the Regiment, it is like 8 BRDMs (including AT ones) 4 BMPs Then comes the CRP (Combat Recon Patrol) 3 BMPs, these guys are there to provide final intel to the next wave, the Forward Security Element. 30 minutes later is the Forward Security Element (FSE) 1 BMP Inf Company (10 BMPs) 1 tank platoon (3 Tanks) a BRDM AT section (3) a SP Mortar Company (8 120mm tubes) and a SP Howitzer support batters (6 tubes) Their job is to fix the enemy's defense to allow the Advanced guard to manuver. 20 minutes later is the Advanced Guard Main Body(AGMB) They are a BN size force with a tank company(-) Only 2 platoons as the company's other tank platoon was in the FSE Their job is to finsih the destruction of the enemy the FSE came in contact with, reduced obsticales and allow for the main body to contiue the attack. Then comes the main body. the 2 remaining Tank Companies of the Regiment's Tank BN and 2 BMP Inf BNs. This shows how the Soviet's philosiphy was simply to use quantity of soldiers to attempt to overwhelm the enemy. This was a very bloody way to fight, and the ability of modern anti armor weapons to destroy tanks (especially Soviet models) quickly and efficeintly has made this method very obsolete. If you conduct an attack in this manner against a modern western military, you simply are not going to win. I'm not for certain but I am pretty sure the Russian have drasticly changed thier tactics, especially after Grozny. As well as they just don't have the resources anymore to be able to lose at least BN sized force in every regimental sized attack anymore, they just don't have Regiment after Regiment to throw in to the frey anymore like during the Cold War.
  16. Way to Go Navy!

Aren't there more Somalians in Detroit than actually in Somalia? I think they come for the weird rave thing going on in the walkways between concourses at the airport.
  17. Obviously some kind of electric guidance I would imagine.
  18. Dave, respectfully I would like to inform you that the US roundel on the E-3 is about (scale wise) 4 inches too far to the left of the L/S of the A/C, I expect this to be fixed ASAP. Also the EF-111A did not carry ARMs. (For those of you that couldn't tell, that was a joke) Seriously though, I have used so much bandwidth of this website downloading so much stuff I had already contributed membership dues before the ODS mod came out, but when I read that out of pocket money was spent by the modders for a FREEWARE add on, it made me want to give some more, I don't think asking for contributions to keep this community going is out of line at all. Anyways, PM me your address and I will send you that piece of ICBM history, I don't need anything in return.
  19. I think that is in Colombia, I could be wrong as I am just going off the caption of the picture in the OP's link. But that's besides the point, my opinion is that the Air Force is not going to procure any new manned observation/light attack aircraft, despite the heavier payload and other advantages of manned A/C, the UAV is seen as the "wave of the future" and we all know how the military goes berserk over "the wave of the future" and gets tunnel vision until an actual event snaps them back into reality. However, I can see countries that don't have the military infastructure to support a UAV program to want to procure new OV-10s. Colombia is a great place for the OV-10, and they have ended the lives of many a FARC/cartel fighter.
  20. Nightwish and Syphonic Metal

This thread is in need of some actual metal Napalm Death Tampa's own Morbid Angel and Deicide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7YLblswAI0...t=1&index=3 And this is a given
  21. Not to mention that whole 'lack of preventative maintenance due to budget restraints' thing. I digress. I have been racking up the kills against the Zionist Pigs in my own Syrian version of lindr2's MiG-23-98
  22. Yeah, I'm failing to see how the MiG-17 is not an aircraft used in the Cold War? But to each his own.
  23. Cyber "Warriors"

First of all I do not want to discount the importance of these PAX and their career field, as it is important and needed. First, USAF Cyber Command took something sacred and s@$t all over it I don't care what kind of reasoning is behind this, and I don't care to hear any kind of defense how this parallels SAC's mission. Sorry, I'm not buying it. Get your own stuff. I am not sure how this command's first commander, my father's friend who he calls "Field Marshall Bob" allowed this to happen, as a former SAC Warrior and Wing Commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB, he probably had no say in it anyways. Now, I am seeing recruiting commercials for the Air Force trying to bring people in using Cyber Command as a hook. I know, Captain Micheal Chang (the PAX in the commercial) did not write the script, I just hope he doesn't believe what he is saying. He keeps refering to himself as a "Cyber Warrior" and brags about how he "doesn't have to go to the desert to fight a war." Sorry guy, while your job is very important, you ARE NOT a warrior. This term should not be thrown around lightly for the cause of recruitment and morale. I'd like any of these guys to come up to me with their little fake SAC patch and tell me with a straight face they are a warrior. Sorry if I seem bitter, I am.
  24. Kicked some butt as an Akula

I just got this a few weeks ago, and knowing nothing about naval warfare, I have been taking a crash course in how to do things. I tried this mission and have been killed twice. I am relying on trial and error to figure out good strategies and tactics.
  25. Cyber "Warriors"

Could a Cyber guy lift a laptop? Oh wait those are the guys that have enough time to go to the gym at home station 3 times a day, so he would finish drinking his creatine shake, pick up 2 laptops throw them at the guy, get a Bronze Star for it, and immediately do to the DMV and get a license plate with a Bronze Star on it.
