It is the Cuba terrain with the OTC 2 Cuba Tree mod by CA_Stary. I have been messing around making an install that has aircraft/skins/weapons/objects for US and Cuban forces in 1989 for my own amusement. -

How do you get a kill without a hit?
Jeremiah Weed replied to slybelle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Rockeye didn't hit the target directly but the submunitions did. You can also score kills by things in the blast radius of the weapon that doesn't actually hit the target. -
I was an M1A1 tanker for some years. Steel Beasts is a very realistic modern tank simulation. Realistic when it comes to ballistics, weapon system employment etc. But like all tank sims, it has problems with its crew commands, especially when controlling the driver, it isn't the easiest thing in the world to get into a proper BP (battle position) and going from hull down to turret down positions is near impossible. Tanks are a hard thing to simulate on the PC. But if you can look past some of the short comings they cam be fun games, like M1 Tank Platoon 2. I don't think if I hadn't been a 19K in the army I would have been able to figure out they systems on Steel Beasts.

Troops being able to deploy flares?
Jeremiah Weed replied to WDH's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So are you going to be modeling NVGs to look through for the pilot, because that is the only way IR is visible, not by the naked eye. It wouldn't be very tactically sound for a Joe to have a flashing light marking his position that was visible to the naked eye. Pretty much a dead give away for the guys shooting at them to know their location. A flashing IR strobe light on the breast pocket of a soldier is not a very good idea either. Not only would it be difficult to see from the air, every time it flashed the soldier's PVS-7/PVS-14s would wash out and he would be in effect blind and combat ineffective. You mentioned gunships, they normally use beacons to track the location of friendly troops, they are tracked by the radar. When stobe lights are used, they are not attached to the troop, but in the general area. This was my experience anyways, all units have different SOPs but like I said it isn't a tacticly sound battle plan. Maybe you could model VS-17 Panels for tanks? -

STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

"Strike Fighters 2 is an update of our best selling jet air-combat series Strike Fighters to run on Windows Vista." -
This is the point I was making in that thread, and I think certain people might have misunderstood me. I have no problem flying for any nation, or having all sides available, but I can see why someone would not want to fly for a certain side. And for someone to say they are wrong for not wanting to fly for whatever side is just silly to me.

Do you fly for your own nation?

That made me laugh a lot for some reason, thanks! -

There you go again telling people how to live their lives. I don't know, maybe an Israeli wouldn't want to fly for a side that could have killed friends or family of his. Maybe an Egyptian feels the same way. Is it so wrong to think that a Vietnam Veteran, or a friend/family member of someone killed in the war would not want to suit up for the North Vietnamese? Some people have strong loyalties to things, and I don't think you are the person that needs to tell them they are wrong for that. Flight combat sims are the only combat related sims I play. I will never play a FPS because that is something I did in real life for far too long and killed far too many real people for my liking. Shooting someone with an M4 on a computer screen would not be enjoyable for me and would bring back bad memories that I am trying to put behind me. Is it bad that I "can't spererate real life and real history from a computer game?" I think not, but you probably think I am an awful person for not wanting to use Call of Duty 4 as a historical modual to learn about modern ground combat. -

I think some of you are missing the even bigger point. Who are you to tell some other person he is wrong or right for how he chooses to run a computer program that he paid for with his own money? That's right, it is not your call. Don't worry about what someone else does with a product they purchased for their own entertainment. I don't see anybody like that slagging you for flying for the "enemy" so why should you slag them for not wanting to? If everybody would just stop telling everybody else how they are supposed to think and be, the world would be a much better place. -
You do, every time you watch TV, use a GPS, etc.
-
I'm sure the pilots will be proficient with the 10 hours a year of flight time they will be getting. Within 3 years at least 2 of them will be grounded to be cannibalized for spare parts.

I am really enjoying this, thanks for your hard work! -
False, I have never actually watched that show. The person below me has been to at least 4 continents. Also Burnham is probably the best scout/tracker in history. One of those adventurer types from the latter half of the 19th century and founded the Scouting movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Russell_Burnham And as for Fort Lewis, I have jumped a 141/17 or 2 in my day from McChord.
-
False, only once, and that was at Point Salinis DZ on Fort Lewis, WA. Worst jump of my life... The person below me knows Fredrick Burnham was just plain awesome.
-
False, dancing is not in my genes The Person below me knows Rajon Rondo is the best defensive point guard in the NBA.

WOI is probably not your best bet for WWII. Try WOE or SFG at the 06 level. -
Where are the 2 Seat Voodoo's ?
Jeremiah Weed replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I am going to have to respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one. In my opinion the "Ultimate Fighter" can turn with the best of them. EDIT: I am not saying it is bad at a 1 pass intercept of a flight of bombers though. -

I'm a Nationalist, sue me. Also it does not play any role on what planes I fly in a flight sim.
