  1. Georgia moves against separatists

Yeah I really don't see, agenda or not, how this shows that a media organization is not "Free." It certainly isn't state controlled. If a private company chooses to "freely" decide how they are going to report a story, it certainly doesn't mean there is no freedom of the press. Does Fox News have an Agenda? More than likely, but who knows if the guests on that show didn't have an agenda of their own and were dishonest with the fact checkers before they were put on the show, and they started saying things the media knows to be untrue and they didn't want to report a false story? Who knows? One of the major problems with press is the sensationalism that has come with it of late. This does not show there no freedom of the press. In fact it actually shows how much freedom of the press there is in the US. And I find it funny Russians are saying things like "see the American media is controlled by the government" When they are being told by their own State run media is telling the people things like the "Russian Peace Makers are working under a UN Mandate to disarm Georgia." Also it appears the comments on that video disagreeing with anyone Russian are being deleted. Makes you go hmmmm.

Oh I know that the JDAM is not the only PGM available, in fact I believe laser guidance is actually more accurate. Officially (and if you are a former Naval Aviator like I think you are, you know what I mean by that) LGBs are accurate to within 15 meters and GPS are accurate to within 30. However, for some reason a desicion well above my eceholon was made that we could only use GPS guided munitions in those situations. That is not to say laser guided bombs were not being used in urban enviornments, they were not being used in those enviornments on targets designated by teams on the ground. This was before the PLGR battery events that caused the fratricide involving the JDAM and the B-52. (I would like to speak more about this incident, but for obvious reasons I can't.) Possibly one of the most impressive things I accomplished in my military carreer was witnessing a 2 ship of B-52s competely devistate an area. The BONEs were pretty impressive too.

There seems to be a lot of reporters getting shot in this conflict. I wonder if anyone is going to try to indite the shooters for murder like I think the Spanish? tried to do to the American M1 Tank Commander that engaged hostile forces in a hotel and also killed some reporters.
  5. This was a really fun game. I was living at Loring AFB, Maine at the time it was released right after ODS, my dad was a B-52 pilot and had actually read Flight of the Old Dog from cover to cover on a flight from Diego Garcia to Iraq. When the game came out pretty much everyone in the 69th Bomb Squadron had a bootleg copy of this game with a print out of the "IFF Code" copy protection. In the Persian Gulf missions on that game you took of from Saudi Arabia, and even missions hitting targets in the KTO took forever, I'm glad they didn't put you at Diego Garcia. I remember that the Tacit Rainbow was pretty much the greatest SEAD weapon ever invented. As for the topic of this thread, I don't mind long distances when I am flying bombers. I'm pretty nostalgic for long range bombing seeings how my grandfather was on B-36 and B-47s and my father spent a career on B-52s and I grew up on Cold War SAC bases. If given the oppurtunity I would fly a bomber on a Global Power mission, taking off from Minot and hitting targets in Egypt, or even fly the mission from Barksdale to Iraq to launch CALCMs. I'm a nerd like that. But when I am flying fighters I tend to care less about the flight and more about the fight and want to get right to the combat. I guess it is just the mindset I have.

For some reason this post reminded me of my father's, a SAC Warrior and career B-52G/H Pilot's Hero: God rest his soul...

Oddly enough, my job in OEF in 01-02 was that of calling in air strikes. In my Area of Operations our ROE required JDAMs only to be used on all "delicate targets in populated areas." During this time the F-14D had no JDAM capability. The F-14D went operational with JDAM on March 1st, 2003 in time for OIF. Although, in my missions I had very little experience with targets in urban areas, infact the one time I called in a JDAM strike on a target of this type it was an orbiting BUFF that released the weapon. I did have experience using Tomcats, and for the most part they performed well and got good effects, but I'm not going to say they performed any better than any other airframe. We never under any circumstance called for any airframe over another. Boots on the ground don't make that call. We call for the ordinance that will destroy the target, honestly we could care less what a/c is carring it, what branch of service it is from, or in certain cases what nationality the pilot is, as long as the target is serviced. I think the analogy you heard was just some hopeful boasting from Tomcat people. I'm sure F-15E/F-18F/B-52H/B-1B/B-2A/F-16C etc. people all said the exact same thing. Antherthing to note is, the "3rd story window, 2nd from the right" thing is a bunch of hogwash. It also doesn't really matter. When you are hitting a structure with a 2000 pound bomb, especially one in Afghanistan, no matter where you hit it, the occupants are going to have a bad day. Also the guidance capabilities of the Tomcat D and Strike Eagle were on par with each other (although I can't recall if the E's were using the LITENING II targeting pod in '01) the bombing from both a/c were on par with each other as well. I'm in no way saying anything bad about the Tomcat or saying the Strike Eagle is way better. I'm just trying to provide an unbiased viewpoint to your statement.

My apologies. I did not fully look into this. I certainly hope since this was a "negotiated" destruction, the crew were allowed to disembark.
  9. Georgia moves against separatists

I really don't want to get into this. But I fail to see how 3 unmanned Coast Guard vessels moored in a port you say you are not in present a 'danger' for your 'peacemakers.' (I do not use "your" or "you" actually referring to anyone posting.)

Operation Desert Fox was in December 1998. I was there.
  11. Oops Don Imus Again...

There was not that much of a hub-bub in the media when ESPN's Jemele Hill, a journalist who brings race into everyone of her columns, compared rooting for the Boston Celtics to having sympathy for Adolf Hitler. ESPN quickly edited her column when people started raising a fuss, but it was too late, and they had to end up suspending her. Oddly enough she was the first person to call for Imus to be fired.
  12. Sorry, the entire fiscal year of 2004 I was too busy killing real people.
