Rhodesia - 1980's
Jeremiah Weed replied to Jeremiah Weed's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Well, actually the "red side" will not have any aircraft, as they consist of terrorist guerrillas with Chinese or Soviet (depending on the faction) supplied weapons including a few shoulder fired SAMs (these were used to shoot down civilian airliners) This mod is not about shooting down MiGs or penetrating heavily defended airspace to strike a target, it is about counter insurgency. Close Air Support, Armed Recon, Recon, and occasional strikes on terrorist encampments. Aircraft so far will be: Hunter FGA9 Gina FA1 Canberra B.2 Vampire Hope to include (not holding my Breath) Lynx Trojan South African A/C will be included to fly on single missions, but not in the campaign. -

1. I am building a new terrain that consists this basic area: The focus will be on Internal Operations, but there will be target areas outside of Rhodesia for occasional external operations. Along with the dynamic campaign I plan on adding some scripted missions that will include strikes on targets in Zambia, Mozambique etc. 2. I am looking at adding some SAAF A/C and some scripted missions involving the SAAF doing joint operations with the Rhodesians. But for the campaign I think I am just going to stick to the RhAF. -

Ug I broke the server trying to post this a minute ago I meant the "kit" for the pilots, ie: helmet colors and whatnot, I was going to knock out the pilots for each squadron. I like the video more than the actual song, Clem Tholet is kind of boring to me, I like John Edmond a lot better than him, the Green Leader song is great, as for Clem I pretty much only like that Zambesi Zimbabwe song and I do like "Rhodesians Never Die" Thanks for the color references though, and if you want to send me that Gina, I'll take it! I should have the basic terrain finished by tomorrow and then i can send it to you to get a preview of it if you want. -

Anyone know what the different Squadron's kit looked like? The only color image I have seen is pretty much at 0:20 in this video: Edit: Also if you watch past the 0:20 mark there are graphic images of war, so if you don't want to see that, I'm just letting you know. -

I completely agree with this assessment. I want to make this available for SF2 and as many people as possible, while I do have WOI, as Nigel here has pointed out, not everyone does, and really all aircraft needed are available 3rd Party, so I don't want to pigeonhole it into WOI owners only. I think I am going to go ahead and buy SF2 today and start figuring out the ins and outs of it. -

I don't have any fancy skins to show right now, but I did just do this: I did the Proper (I think, would like confirmation) ranks, AND every name is an actual name of someone that served in the Rhodesian Air Force. I was going to just do pilots, but I added everyone as a tribute. I only left one name off, someone who has apparently been less than honorable since his service. Nigel, if you want to send me those proper call signs I will do them up too. Edit: I did the names up by putting the entire name under "Male First Names" and put a single space under "Last Names," turned out perfect. -
Key word being simulated. Although I am one to talk, I got a freaking ARCOM in 1998 for after killing 7 T-80s, taking a hit on my tank, doing self aid and buddy and on my loader, dismounting and then with my loader working our way behind an 8th T-80 and destroying it with AT-4s then killing the crew of a BRDM AT-5 with our M-4s. Of course this was all at NTC using MILES gear. If you think I'm going to do that crap in a real situation, I'll sell you a beach house in Arizona..

Wow, that is some great work! That hanger screen is pretty mush I think that is a good template to use for all the a/c in the mod. Roundel, Squadron, Service, and Squadron Motto. That is just great. I appreciate your interest. -

That is a fine looking bird to keep them north of the Zambezi.. I just finished with a rough version of the Golf, still needs a model obviously, and I need to tweak it a bit, but i have a good start on it, as I said in the PM I am going to list all Rhodesian made weapons as "South African" One I get satisfied with it I'm going to go back to building the terrain. -

Not sure of any use for them yet, but if you want to donate some of those SAAF skins when finished, that would be cool. -

The problem with helicopters is their availability, and I am not an expert, but I think that the AI doesn't fly them correctly, although having G-Cars, Lynx, Hunters/Ginas and Daks in the air in a scripted mission doing a proper Fireforce would be awesome. -

I would enjoy dropping 300 of those Alpha bombs on an enemy position. The Frantan and the Golfs are pretty important for this project. I'll figure a way to get them modeled. The Lynx and Provost would be great, but I don't see that happening, no big deal. I am trying to get this done by November 11th at the latest for obvious reasons! -

I just took a break from the nightmare the terrain building is giving me... Now I am working on compiling the weapons, Nigel do you have a good idea of what ordnance was/would be used? I know in the campaign I am going to set available numbers pretty low, and supply should be set on "limited" to make the player watch his ammo usage, just as the Forces had to. -
I am traveling, alone, to Saint-Petersburg, Russia in May for the week surrounding Victory Day (May 9th). I have a 24 hour layover in London. I arrive at 1700 on the 12th of May and leave at 1735 on the 13th, given customs, and early arrival at the airport i figure I have around 20 hours to kill. I have never been there other than transfers at the airport, what should I do in the short amount of time I am there? *note I am not timid or intimidated by public transportation in big cites and can read maps quite well.

Oh OK, I thought you were trying to say that JDAMs were solely offensive weapons, however they do have many uses in the defense of your homeland. I have personally used JDAM strikes real world while in an defensive posture.

What do you mean by this?

SLBMs would be fired first, shorter flight and reaction time. However that whole MAD thing kinda prevents this from ever happening. I highly doubt a state will ever use another nuclear weapon in anger. Even if attacked by a terrorist with a nuclear weapon, there would be no positive to responding to an attack like this with one.
