Romflyer replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Congratulations xclusiv8 There is no real magic bullet to getting used to using TIR, it just takes a few days using it and getting used to not moving your head around too much.....or too fast.......but once you get used to it you will be ashamed at yourself for resisting for so long I have my speed set to 2.5 and smooth set to 28 for combat sims, and a little slower for FS. Another thing to play with (as I'm sure you are figuring out) is how close you are zoomed in or out, sometimes that can be tough to get just right. I'm sure you have read it many times, but soon you wont be able to fly without it. -
Aim-7 Sparrow in WOV

In the keyboard assignments there is a command called "visual current radar target" (or something close to that ) I'm not sure of the default command, but you can assign it to whatever key you want........ anyways, when you get a lock on a BVR target hit that button and it will highlite your radar target in either red or blue.......I call it IFF -

Problem with a patch
Romflyer replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
After downloading the patch then you need to run the patch installer, insuring that it points to correct location of where your install is located.......that being said, if you are running anything other than XP then you should ensure that your install isnt in "Program Files" which is where it will try to install to by default. Super Hornet and Carrier Ops in SF2E - what are my options?
Romflyer replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
What I am using to satisfy my "naval cravings" is download Tomcats over Europe http://combatace.com...over-europe-79/ then I edited it to use an F-18 try this one http://combatace.com...ge-for-sf2-v19/ It only works for a campaign.....but it works really well.......the only other real catch is that it's for WOE, but hopefully someone can tell you wether or not it will work for SF2 Europe. -
Check out this guys set up

Is there any chance that you could show where that location is on a Planning map......like this one? Cheers -
Difficulty options... what do you use and why?
Romflyer replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You will need to look through the knowledge base on where to get and how to use the cat extractor utility.........I'm not the right guy to be giving you information on where stuff is in SF2 because I'm still using SF1.......but the KB will have all the answers for you. -

The hudata.ini is in the Flight folder, below are the settings I use, obviously you can pick and choose what works for you. Romflyer replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Make a copy of your startup ini. (right-click on the file and choose copy, you will have 'startup.ini' and 'copy of startup.ini' ) Open the original and then change the entries to match what I posted in my last post, then start the game and you should be in full screen mode.......if something still goes wrong (or gets worse) then you just need to remove the words 'copy of' and you will be back to where you started. -

In your main WOE directory find Startup.ini.......find these lines and make sure it says false in windowmode. [Window] WindowMode=FALSE WindowPosX=0 WindowPosY=0 WindowWidth=1024 WindowHeight=768 -
I know we are technically supposed to have 6 degrees of freedom (5 really) in TW games using Trackir, however I find the head movement so small (position) that it's like there is really only 3 degrees (pitch, yaw, and zoom).....The only other game I have to compare this to is FS, and in FS you can 'move' all around in the cockpit as well as 'look' around in the cockpit, but in strike fighters my movement side to side or up and down is limited to a couple of inches in any direction.....I'm pretty sure the answer to unlocking this movement is in the viewlist.ini .......can anyone advise me on what to adjust to accomplish what I am trying to do......assuming you understand what I'm trying to do [ViewClass002] ViewClassName=CockpitViewClass ViewType=FIXED_VIEW ViewGroupID=1 DefaultView=CockpitFront AllowFromDiffGroup=TRUE SnapView=FALSE InsideView=TRUE FocusObjectOnly=TRUE FOV=60.0 PitchControl=CAMERA_PITCH_AXIS YawControl=CAMERA_YAW_AXIS RollControl= ZoomControl=CAMERA_ZOOM_CONTROL JumpToViewSameGroup=FALSE JumpToViewDiffGroup=TRUE SmoothAngleTransition=TRUE SmoothPositionTransition=FALSE SmoothFOVTransition=TRUE RememberAngle=FALSE RememberFOV=TRUE LimitPitch=TRUE LimitYaw=TRUE LimitRoll=FALSE ZoomFOV=TRUE ZoomScale=0.01 PanScale=0.00160 MinSpeed=100.0 MaxSpeed=10000.0 Acceleration=2000.0 AngleRates=480.0,360.0,360.0 FOVRate=60.0 MinAngles=-135.0,-20.0,0.0 MaxAngles=135.0,110.0,0.0 MinFOV=15.0 MaxFOV=120.0 OffsetDistance=0.06 TrackIRUseAbsolutePos=TRUE

6 DOF
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes FC I noticed the positioncontrol=XXX being absent as well......the things that have me thinking that it should be possible is 1) trackir states that all TW game have 6DOF.....like Migbuster says FE has more head movement. 2) as I stated in my first post, there actually is some movement, it's just not enough to be usefull 3) back when I first got TIR I raised the question over at the TW forum, and TK implied that the reason you cant move around very much is because you are supposed to be strapped in pretty tight to your seat. -

Is there a way to adjust the flight model of an aircraft so that when I spool up the throttle the nose wants to pitch up, and when I reduce the throttle the nose relaxes back down?.........yes I have the emulated trim functioning........but I would like the sim to force me to use it Cheers Romflyer

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When I said jets, yes I meant jet fighters.......doing a go-around is exactly what I am basing my expectations on, havent done it in a real jetliner, allthough I've done my fair share in small piston GA.......and Ive assumed that similar if not stronger requirements for forward pressure on the stick would be required with that much more horsepower kicking you in the.....butt. From everything you are telling me I'm not sure that pursuing this too much further is worth.....asking for. Unless someone like Fubar feels a need to make those kind of changes. Thank you again for sharing. Romflyer -

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1) I'm curious to know why this differs in jets to most other aircraft.......is it just because of centerline thrust, or is it also related to AOA on the wing? 2) It's not about me thinking trimming is fun.......it's about me thinking that needing to trim is more realistic.........I have the highest of respect in your opinion on these matters, and you do have me wondering about some of the assumptions I am making about the need within the game for this function. 3) I wish I could think of something to say 4) see answer 3 5) I wasnt trying to get AI to do anything .......as a matter of fact I hadnt even thought about the effect on AI until you brought it up. And I wasnt trying to soup up a plane so I could pretend I was in some sci-fi shootem up game (not my thing). I have just been toying around with trying to get a small piece of realism that I thought the sim was missing..........And lets be clear about this, I am not complaining ..........I'm learning. And I do appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge -
thrust
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1) As I said in my second post in this thread that I am assuming that jets would react similar to propellor driven aircraft.......perhaps lowering the thrust position to be below the centerline (as Fubar said at the beginning) might yield better results........would changing thrust position only effect the physics of thrust location, or would it also effect the external visual model? 2) Yes, maybe some of them do.........it is my understanding that most (if not all) jets have some form of manual trim (again I am assuming) ......Has it not been your experience in real life aviation, that when you change a throttle setting you need to adjust your trim in order to maintain "straight and level flight"?...... 3) I was adjusting the third value in the string, it would make sense that it was the correct one to adjust.....there seemed to no change in pitch or yaw 4) I wouldnt say that I am dead set on this.......more like curious. I would have thought that if it would work on a third invisible engine, then it should have worked on the two existing engines?? 5) Well, if I do get it to work, then it will be interesting to see what the AI does with it........ Its all just a big experiment, trying to make my sim experience as good as I feel it can be thats what makes this fabulous hobby so fun!! -

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well I tried it out last night in my F-18, started with thrust angle at 0.01.......kept on adding and adding, more and more.......finally gave up at 10.5 and figured I was spending too much of my rare flight-time on something that seemed to be going no where ......I really thought we were on to something. -

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Fubar The example I used was from the F-16, I was thinking about adjusting the last set of zeros to 0.01 and then see what happens. ThrustAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 ThrustPosition=0.00,-4.825,-0.065 Of course I'm gonna play with those numbers, and then I'll probably be back asking how to adjust the angle of the elevator to compensate for the change in thrust angle Thanks again for your time Fubar Cheers Romflyer -

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
My apologies..........this is where my inexperience becomes blaringly obvious ThrustAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 ThrustPosition=0.00,-4.825,-0.065 Now that I understand what your answer meant I'm thinking that adjusting the thrust angle would be the most effective choice.........but in reading your earlier post it sounds like you thought thrust position to be a better choice??? -

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
My question was predicated on my assumption that jets will respond to throttle (thrust) settings similar to propellor driven aircraft, the more you open the throttle the more the nose of the aircraft pitches upward, which is the reason you need to trim.......what I was wondering is whether or not it is possible to get jets in Strike Fighters to respond to throttle settings the same way........could the flight model of a plane be made so that the amount of lift generated by the wing is variable to the amount of thrust (throttle setting)...........I guess I probably should have posted this in the modding forum. -
question about flight model - sideway G force
Romflyer replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually in a crosswind landing you use bank angle to correct for the wind and you use rudder to keep parallel to the runway. I have no idea about whether or not you can do a knife-edge in an f-16, but it is definately not the aircraft one would usually associate with that manuever -
question about flight model - sideway G force
Romflyer replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think that maybe we are all stumbling over a difference in terminology, as I said earlier you are essentially describing a slip....here is a quick clip of a 172 doing a slipe on final So I would suggest you try the same maneuver in the F-16 or F-15.... on short final lower your left wing(or right ) when the plane starts to turn in whichever direction you chose then kick your opposite rudder.....adjust those two cross-controls until you are stabilized in a crabbing motion toward the threshold.......the velocity vector in your hud should point to the center of the runway but the nose of your plane will point to the weeds on the side of the runway........Voila!! you have acheived......lateral/sideways exceleration....or whatever you called it
