Romflyer replied to MetalMania's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I just read a great article on this very topic, it's two loooong pages but it's really informative about speeds, altitudes, timing, and tactics. -

CH Pro pedals config wheelbrakes to WOV/WOI?
Romflyer replied to Madprof's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Kirbykern, I went and downloaded the file.......What do I do with it? I moved both files into the control manager/maps file. and when I open the CM program I can open the map and it all looks fine. But then I go to the game and nothing has changed, so a few instructions would be great Thanks Rom -
precision landing signals
Romflyer replied to lellouche's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think 'Flying the needle from waypoint to waypoint' would be more appropriate I didnt know that Falcon 4 offered a HITS feature, that is a bit to 'cheat' for my liking, but how I wish we had an ILS in this great game -
I just came accross this site http://www.codeonemagazine.com/test/archiv...s/cockpits.html some really nice cockpit photos.

CH Pro pedals config wheelbrakes to WOV/WOI?
Romflyer replied to Madprof's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
well Madprof, you have got my attention with this, as I'm sure everyone else using Ch pedals. Can you give us a little hint on how it's done. I have the Ch controller but I've not seen this option. -
Hello I am an avid flight simmer and have been for many years, one of my current favourites is WOE......I am thinking about trying out First Eagles, but I'm curious to know about running it on Vista because on the TW website it says that the game does not work in Vista. So before I pull out my credit card I just want to know it will work with Vista. Sorry if this has been asked 100 times allready, I did look through the sticky's but couldnt find any obvious answers to this question. Thanks in advance Rom

BVR Kills
Romflyer replied to Anthony W.'s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have to agree that the manual is a little less than........thorough one thing that I found helpful was I downloaded Bunyap's the 'Range' http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=2658 it's a great place to go and practice, and there is a pretty good tutorial (with pictures) on using radar. -

New joystick
Romflyer replied to topcat II's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It's easiest to just map the buttons within the games options menu, unless you've got something really special going on that would require the use of CH control manager program. From what I can see the only advantage is if you want to assign the same function to both the keyboard and the joystick. -
How to shut off the additional radar screen?
Romflyer replied to Luiz Carlos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I used this fix for the radar screen a few months back, and it's easily the best improvement to the game that I've seen.....I hated that screen! There is also an assignment to change the hud display from within the game, I can't remember the default key combinaton (I have it remapped) but it allows you to cycle through easy/normal/hard while you are in the air. I like the idea of removing the shaded background on the text, thanks Wrench, I look forward to giving that a try. -
Does anyone know if there is a CF-105 Avro Arrow available?

arrow
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Icarus I see a few canadian military aircraft on their site, however the CF-105 doesnt appear to be one of them -
I fly pretty much exclusively from the cockpit, however I would like to be able to go to an external veiw and pan around from time to time. I have remapped my whole keyboard to get it to fit my liking and now I'll be buggered if I can get an external (free panning) veiw, can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

external veiws
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Cheers That is exactly what I needed -
external veiws
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
thank you for the response, am I correct to assume F6 was the default external veiw? what is this veiw called in the customise controls menu within the game? If when I get home and check the file your telling me to check and it doesnt have this line then what should I do? do I add the line? or should I restore the defaults and do the remap? sorry for all the questions I just want to be ready with a plan when I sit down to do it. -
What do you think is missing from this sim?
Romflyer replied to scouserlad13's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'd like to see a little bit better navigation avionics, like using carots(sp?) in the heading ribbon on the hud of the aircraft to locate waypoints, or when you cycle through radar options, one option should be a moving map(GPS)with waypoints (a la nav mode in LOMAC) I dont really like those triangles floating around in space. The other big(HUGE) miss is an ILS -
So I wanted to show off this new tow that I just finished making. It's made with an old keyboard inside. It makes radar and targeting much easier........and funner! And when I'm done flying it just unplugs and goes into the closet

So I'm sure this topic must have come up before........But, I'm looking for peoples opinions about the best downloads to get. -best modern plane -best cold war era plane -best WW2 plane -best scenery/campaign package -best utility/upgrade/tweak etc. etc.

best downloads
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the ideas guys, I have to say that the shining star of the bunch is the superhornet that warlord gave a link to one question though......this is the second F18 that I have downloaded for this game and neither has had flaps, isnt an F18 supposed to have flaps? -
best downloads
Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
with so many downloads out there one cant expect to try ALL of them, surely sharing some of your favourites wont hurt anyone, I'm not asking for the worst downloads to stay away from them, I'm asking for your opinions on the best to share!! One of my favourites is the Mirage factory F-15, and I recently got an F-23 that seemed pretty cool, as for scenery I got the Black Sea Campaign and thinks it's great. I also recently got a fix to remove the radar screen from my top right veiw(huge improvement) -
So I heard about this COMM pack, apparently it's one of the best things to get for the game?? I found it and downloaded it ........now what does it do? and where do I put it? there seems to be no instructions or info available

Romflyer replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
