  1. Hey Intruder7011 Check out this guys site for some futher ideas http://www.rogerdodger.net/diyflightsims/pacs.html they have a whole selection of keyboard layouts and mounting ideas.
  2. Do you have stairs in your house?........... be sure to check your door sizes......... you might have to move the couch, the TV.....and maybe even the wife out into the garage in order to get that thing in front of your 47 inch LED
  3. Before I can offer my 2 cents about keyboards and placement and so on.....I need to know a couple of things about your plan, what cockpit are you thinking about basing this on? What are your plans for switches? are you thinking something simple like my keyboard cheat, or are you planning to go a little more high tech like a "Leo Bodnar" board?......are you planning this out for more sims then just SF2?..... If you plan it right there will be no reason to have a keyboard mounted at all. I would stongly suggest you log in some serious combat time with the stick and the game before you go to far down the rabbit hole with your cockpit design.......once you have spent some time with everything you will probably discover that everything you thought would be the case is completely different than what you thought.......and also try to keep a perspective on being able to use your simpit with other titles. The design I am using is my second set-up.....and even at that my MFD layout has been moved around about.......eight times, until I settled on a layout that worked the best for me......and that is workable with my other sims as well
  4. Hey Intruder7011 It looks like its all starting to come together, I look forward to seeing how it progresses. One suggestion I might offer is that OSB is difficult product to do fine detailed work with, and you might want to use some G1S (good one side) plywood for the front panel, or maybe some 1/4" MDF.....either of those products will cut and drill much cleaner than OSB. I am curious to hear a little bit about that shiney new HOTAS set-up....how does work, how does it feel, how is it to program, etc. etc. Romflyer
  5. I am using Exp 2 so I am supposed to be getting support for quad core??......is there any need to be changing affinity settings and if so to what? Cheers Romflyer
  6. No momentary switches......everything is based on an old keyboard Here are a few shots from the construction process
  7. While you are waiting ...... Give my CF-18 a try, it's essentially an A model with an updated cockpit http://combatace.com/files/file/12543-cf-18/ It'll help tie you over until the new ones arrive
  8. Well I have radar commands set up on my left MFD (on/off, cycle modes back or forwards, radar range up or down) on my right MFD I have a mixture of various view and game commands (panel view, missile view, external view, simulation rate, print screen, pause).....on my UFP (up-front-panel) I have (AP, Hud, IFF, A-A, A-G, map, waypoint, Nav modes) On the left side I have Gear, Flaps up and down, ECM, and Jettison stores. In the center between my UFP and the lower map I have an eject handle which when pulled alone it doubles as a brake but when used with CNTRL/EJECT it punches you out. Here is the layout of my HOTAS
  9. Here is a great explanation of how to use radar in SF by Streakeagle http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB3w/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2343&sid=215e2cc58cc32057adfade6a380b36ca
  10. I don't think SF is gonna support a rotary switch the way you are hoping for, in SF you don't select a radar mode with a specific button ...... You cycle through various modes using one specific button ( page up ) and (page down) to cycle range I use two buttons on my MFD to cycle forwards or backwards through range and two others to cycle modes.
  11. That is a big a$$ fish!!! As for the ocean colour, I have not yet picked up SF NA , but judging by the sky reflections on the water in the many screen shots, I bet the water colour will look much less.....saturated with an overcast sky...... Just like it does in real life
  12. Well if I was starting from scratch with controllers I think the g940 would right up at the top of my list too. As for the rig, I'm not sure exactly how good of a deal that is..... But that will definately be a nice machine
  13. Welcome aboard Intruder7011 I am curious to hear a little bit about what you are making ......I too am a bit addicted to trying to make my sim environment more.......emmersive
  14. I keep reading little remarks here and there in various different threads about there being a new FA-18 model in the works......Just wondering if we could get a little bit more information on it.....like who's making it? how far along is it? and would it be possible to get a few pictures of the progress.....especially some cockpit shots. Cheers Romflyer
  15. Well I guess I jumped the gun on my answer without fully reading the question ....... Dave's answers your question.........but try mine too, it's a good one.
  16. In the main directory of any plane you will find X-XX_Cockpit.ini open it up and look for this section [CockpitSeat001] ModelName=Cock_F14a Position=0.0,5.5,0.658 ViewAngles=0.0,-2.0,0.0 MaxYaw=152 <-------------------- change these to about 180 MinYaw=-152 <-------------------- MaxPitch=90 MinPitchFront=-47 <------------- You can play with these too MinPitchRear=-35 <------------ LightRange=1.5 LightInnerConeAngle=50 LightOuterConeAngle=60 LightAngles=0.0,-30.0,0.0 DiffuseLightFactor=0.5 NightLightOn=0.25 NightLightColor=0.6,0.3,0.4 Gunsight=GunsightFront
  17. Hey guys thanks for the replies, I did find the pit pix in the screenshot section........NICE WORK Brain32 !! I love those reflections on the MFD's, are those reflections static? it reminds me of some old Bill Lyons planes for FS9, he had a series of planes that had similar looking reflections on the gauges and it was a very nice touch. I spend probably 80% of my SF flying time the F-18 so I am really looking forward to this new version. So whats left to do in the project? those pictures have me thinking that it wont be much longer.......would you guys say its likely to be more than 2 weeks........or less than 2 weeks? if you need Beta testers.......?
  18. I seem to recall you saying that you have trackir??.. If so then just sit in a comfortable position then press the center veiw button for your trackir, if that feels to close then just lean forward slightly and hit the button again, when you lean back to your comfortable spot then you will be zoomed out..... Once you get it right then you are ready to throttle up Unless I am misunderstanding your question???
  19. I'm pretty jazzed cause my date (March 17th) is basically in............2 weeks Turkey and green beer I cant wait
  20. Yep......I specifacally avoiding mentioning anything about when.
  21. Wow those pit pictures are looking great One thing that comes to mind when I see that right MFD showing weapons and system info is that it would be very cool if when you switched hud modes to nav mode then that right MFD would switch to the moving map HSI, and then when you cycle weapons the MFD would bring up the weapons info page .....just a thought
  22. Stary, Which INI file is that from?...........I think it's in the Mig-15_cockpit.ini [CockpitSeat001] ModelName=Mig15_pit OpenCockpit=FALSE //TRUE Offset=0.0,-0.1,0.0 Position=0.0,1.40,0.82 -------Is this it? //0.0,1.37,1.3 //-0.32,1.37,1.3 ViewAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 MaxYaw=180 MinYaw=-180 MaxPitch=90 MinPitchFront=-45 MinPitchRear=0 LightRange=2.0 LightInnerConeAngle=50 LightOuterConeAngle=80 LightAngles=0.0,-35.0,0.0 DiffuseLightFactor=0.5 NightLightOn=0.25 NightLightColor=0.7,0.2,0.2 Gunsight=GunsightFront I am really looking forward to trying this cockpit out......I have been looking at your Signiture picture for the last week or so wondering what the heck it was from .....and how great it looks! Cheers Romflyer
