As a 2d movie, I would have said it was average...it was the 3d that did it for me!
I don't agree about the 2d version.......it was still an exceptionally entertaining film in 2d, a long ways above average ......allthough the 3d version did hit it out of the park
It is strange the way our human nature wants us to down play this movie because it has become so popular and successful........it is a bit disconcerting to think that "I" am just like all the other sheep that liked this movie, and it's easy to have this knee-jerk reaction saying "yah, it wasnt THAT good"..... this kind of thinking helps to set us apart from the masses(in our own mind)
Even if this type of movie(sci-fi) isnt your thing..........this is still a great movie

I was just the right age for Tron, and I loved it. Those trailers look great, wont be out until next Christmas though.
as for Escape from NY
Snake Bliskin!!?.........I thought you'd be bigger?

Raden
thanks for the link, that does answer first question.....
And thx u for skooling me on my gramar
As for my second question, can anyone tell me if it's possible to have a similar fixed display with other gauges being displayed like RWR or a moving map HSI ?
Thanks

I've been brainstorming a few ideas, and I was wandering if
1)The annoying radar screen that I was so happy to get rid of months ago....can it be easily moved to different locations on the screen , like from the top right corner to the bottom corner?
2)can a similar display (to the earlier mentioned annoying radar screen) be displayed showing other displays like RWR or a moving map HSI, in seperate stationary windows like the radar display?
Cheers

Agree with you that FS is far better for slow bird due to its realistic eyecandy terrain but TW is a "Combat" flight sim .
Unfortunately TW game engine doesn't support yet FAC or RESCUE type of mission so you cannot fully enjoy the O-1E. But if you are a rotorhead, I assure you that flying the AH-1G Cobra escorting 8 Hueys (slicks and gunship) with 2 Cayuse for CAS mission (cause AIR_ASSAULT is not supported) and some Skyraiders or Phantoms flying around with their napalm is a "PURE" experience that you can't find in any game around. Trust me
Perhaps I should give rotary wing a go in a TW game....... my experiences in FS with whirly-birds have been......far from satisfying and by that I mean I'm glad know one was watching
As for the payware thing, all I wanted to say was that I have no problem opening up my wallet for the right payware product.......I actually wish I could find something payware for SF that I really need to have, but there just doesnt seem to be anything out there that grabs me, that and the fact that we have so many AMAZING freeware products available, many of which I would have bucked up for if I needed to
Something else I have noticed is that the few payware products that are around don't seem to be doing much to get our attention, I mean before I decide that I'm ready to buy a plane I want to be able to look through a bunch of pictures and a list of features, I want to know that the cockpit is gonna be spectacular and details are gonna be right and so on , and so on. But the few payware sites I've seen seem pretty sparse on detail.......just my two cents

Right here at CombatAce
There is a link at the top too...
Thanks for the link
Not the first time I've been called 'captain observant'
Both the bird dog and the AH-1 look quite nice, but to be honest, for me TW games are all about going fast....these games do jets better than anybody else, when I wanna fly a Cessna I load up FS and pull out a Carenado.
Are there any other noteable payware jets available for SF?

Overkill by Diego and team.
google brought me nothing.......do you by chance have a link?

I personally have spent quite a bit of money on FS payware, and have no reservations about shelling out for products that are worth the money......especially on quality planes with highly detailed cockpits. Is there a bunch of payware out there that I dont know about for TW games ?? I know about Razbam.....I know about YAP.....anyone have a list?

Raden's idea could still be adopted in a slightly different way (that does not need the permission of the original modder or person who posted the mod) by posting a screenshot in the Comments - Add your Comment section of each download.
+1.

You make a good point UP.
I mostly fly over germany in high powered jets. (Practising in the F100 )
Reaching 30 000 is easy and fast in an F15. Maybe it is the speed that makes it feel small like you said. And germany is pretty damn flat aswell hehe
As I was reading this thread I was thinking about how flat much of the stock scenery is, and how that can really mess with your perspective, my favourite scenery for this game is "Mountain Thaw" which is repaint of "American North-West" what makes it so great is the mountainous terrain and canyons to.........play in here is a link with some screenshots http://forum.combatace.com/topic/44981-mountain-thaw/page__fromsearch__1
Also Wrench's Southern California gives some much needed depth to the ground terrain.

waypoint # and distance on HUd.. yes, it can be added to the Hornet avionics70 Hornet HUD
which came originally witht he Blule Angels Hornet .. and is now used on the older TMF FA-18A ..
I made a completely new Hornet HUD .. for the new ABCD Hornets ... just have no idea about a release date
4.3 W2 = 4.3 NM to Waypoint 2
That's what I'm talkin about!
Crusader, I am actually still using gen1 woe, one of things I like about the f18a is the carrot marker in the compass ribbon across the top of the HUD, will your new incorporate that?will it work in gen1?and any idea when you might be able to share?
For that matter how difficult is it to add that 4.3 W2 to an existing HUD like in my f18a that I like so much?
Cheers

It more than likely is doable, but by The Mirage Factory or somebody versed in that stuff. I usually adjust my zoom all the way out so I can see the HSI while flying though.
The HSI shows you the course to the next waypoint and whether or not you are on the "radial" but it doesn't tell you which waypoint your heading too.

On the topic of HUDs, my all time favourite plane in the game is the MF FA-18A.........one thing I have always wished it had was an indicator to tell which waypoint you were heading for, I know I've seen this on other models in the bottom left corner of the hud (wpt1,2,3etc.) Is there a way to add this information? I like to fly with all the on-screen info turned off, so having the waypoint info available would be.......better.
Even if this info was not on the hud, would it be possible to add this info in the small LED read-out below the hud, the one that cycles A-A spd, A-G spd, waypoint....so that instead of just reading waypoint, it could read waypoint 1,2,3,etc........would something like that be possible?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what do I map the home key to ?
If I remember right it's "next radar target" and then shift-home is "previous radar target"

TIR5 is better than TIR4 (I've had both) my 4 crapped out with a problem that apparently happened to alot of people (windows stopped recognizing the device) but really on direct comparison there isnt that much extra bang for your buck using the 5..........however, it's more reliable, and it's got a wider field of view, and it's only $50 more.
it's a tough call...........get the 5

Thank you unknown.
I 'll practise on both (low level and dive bombing) ways.
cheers
have a read through this http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html I found it to be very helpfull, there are two techniques there so be sure to see both.
Also be sure to get "The Range" from the download section, it's a great place to practice bombing.
Good luck

Its probably personal taste versus the actual benefits TrackIR gives. I can vouch for that personally as I've known it's been out for a couple years, but haven't gotten around to getting it. Sure it is a great help, but honestly I'm surviving fine without it so there's not much negativity, its just some people are used to one way and don't feel the need to buy it.
From time to time the odd thread comes up where someone is using the keyboard to control their plane, and everyone else reading the thread is thinking "sure you can play the game like that, but trust me your missing out on how much better it can really be.....I could never play with a keyboard!! "...........well this kinda like that

Hmm... I'm not sure what other stuff you mean? From what I've seen, with HUD on "normal", when you load the mission you have your own planes info on the lower left (in white, IIRC) - Speed, Alt, Heading, Flight Name (not sure what else). Once you get a target, it's info, mirroring that of your own, shows up in red on the right.
Now, if you hit Alt+D, it brings up FPS info in white at the top center of the screen. Hit it again, and it all goes away.
Generally speaking I don't fly with the FPS data on. And it sounds like what you are talking about is getting rid of both the target, and personal plane info (which I know as the "speedbar", IL2 parlence) through editing the HUDData.ini, but to leave what....? Doesn't sound like it would be any different.
I'm not trying to be difficult or argumentative, just not sure what you mean.
My mistake about alt+d. I never use it anymore, but maybe it's cntrl+h which turns off and on the hud info completely?? my point was that using the huddata.ini you can get rid of all the useless info, but leave some of the usefull target tracking stuff. I was thinking that when you said alt-d that you were refering to the hud info, not the fps counter.
like Migbuster said.......trackir.......if you can, don't hesitate

Yeah, I've 'turned off' the floating radar display, and also got rid of all waypoint indicators entirely, most, if not all, the planes have that awesome radio direction indicator (like the Bf-109 and FW-190 had), which just takes you from waypoint to waypoint, even showing if you are off to one side of it or not (if you care).
Currently have left the target box and cone alone. Since you can still target unseen items, even through mountains and up to 100NM away, there doesn't seem to be much point to tweaking it further, but reducing the size, as you mentioned, seems like a cool idea. I'll definitely have to consider that.
One thing I was trying to do was get rid of the target data in the lower right - unless I missed something, there doesn't appear to be a way of doing that without also affecting the personal speedbar data (on the left, your own speed, alt, heading, etc). There's no sense in editing that file if I'm going to make both disappear totally, because I can use Alt+D to do that. Since the HUD set to hard does exactly what I'm looking for, it must be possible, I'm guessing I've just missed it so far.
Eric, I've not had a chance to do more than just look over that file you sent. That thing looks quite complex, but I definitely will be digging into it and using it.
The problem of using alt-d is that it does get rid of everything, and I find the targeting info to be a necessity (both visual and radar) I think you would like getting rid of the personal red info in the bottom left (and right), it feels a little odd at first but then you just push yourself to use your instruments, and the next thing you know the game is starting to feel like a simulator

The huddata.ini is the ticket to customizing what info is diplayed on the screen. If you put // in front of an entry and it will eliminate it, for me all the red writting in the bottom left and right...gone, radar screen in upper right...gone, waypoint markers....gone, red square around target....change the size and make it smaller so it is just a little red dot over your visual target, I still use the cones to let me know that I have a visual target and the general direction to look in order to see him, and the same for the waypoint cone it tells me the general direction to turn towards for my next waypoint but once you turn towards it the cone disappears. These changes for me have dramatically improved the overall feel of the......game/simulator, now you have to use the instruments to check your speed and track your waypoints and fly the plane.
As for padlock veiw it is a must have to have it beside your hat ready for your thumb and the trick to not getting dissoriented is to keep pressing the padlock button so you look at the target then press it again to look forward press it again to keep tracking the target.......then again buying trackir was the best investment I have made for simming in a long time (never use padlock anymore)

ok, read only is unchecked.
I dont understand why it wont accept reassigned controls?
Try going into the main WOE directory and the 'controls' folder, inside it you find a file called 'default' copy and paste it to your desktop and then rename it 'whatever name you want' and then drag it back into the controls folder. Then start the game and go into controls and pick your new controls profile 'whatever name you want' and then try re-assigning the controls.......not sure if that will help but it's worth a try.

Predictable...........I'll give you that, but not to the point that the movie was spoiled.
I saw it twice, first time in 2d and I thought the movie showed well in 2d......it was better in 3d, but if it was only released in 2d I dont think it would have been any less of a movie, it was still a BIG screen movie in 2d......just not quite as big
Last night I watched the Hurt Locker...........Great movie!!
