  1. There are a few voice packs available that really improve the radio chatter in the game, of course the goal is to replace the cartoon hillbilly voices that come with the game, this link will get you a voicepack that fixes the guy that yells at you everytime you leave or approach an airfield (yes it's a shameless plug) http://combatace.com/files/file/13057-approach-and-departure-voicepack/ in the readme there are links to the other two speech files which are really great, the pack by Retrograde easily would make the top ten list of all-time best mods. It gives the feeling that some of those incoming missile callouts are coming from the guy behind you......every now and then it actually uses the line "come on, do some of that pilot s**t"

  2. Looks good, but one thing is bugging me. Where is Mr. Bond's Aston Martin?

He left it in pieces in the opening car scene chase of the second movie

  3. I really liked the Dalton movies, I thought he was a much needed change from the cheesy Moore era......Daniel Craig has had the same impact( even more so) now from the similar cheesy Brosnan era.

And Skyfall looks awesome!!! I can't wait

  4. As dated as Robocop looks now..........it was SPECTACULAR back at it's release in 1987.......you also have to be carefull not to judge the original by it's sequels.

I agree with Lazarus, it will be either amazingly good.......or it'll be a trainwreck, but if that Omnicorp link is any judge of how cool it'll be then I am quite excited about it

  5. I'm a new person to SF2 and I've noticed a lot more of the new mods you need the July 2012 update. Currently I'm updated to I think its March 2012 (Came that way when I installed it). I've never updated SF2 and I've read some info but I'm really confused on it. Will I lose all my aircraft, objects and other various things I've downloaded? I haven't messed any .ini files unless I had to for a certain aircraft or to add a squadron or change something that I was told to do in the "readme" files that come with the mods. Any help would be great. I'd really like to finally install a lot of the newer mods you guys have put out. Thanks!

Hello Joe and welcome to CA

When you install an update you will not lose aircraft or sceneries that you have installed. Generally speaking, things you have added to your mod folder shouldnt be effected......things you have changed or editted can be effected when patching. If you have any stand alone installs then you will need protect them before you update. have a read through this http://combatace.com/forum/268-thirdwire-strike-fighters-2-series-knowledge-base/page__prune_day__100__sort_by__Z-A__sort_key__last_post__topicfilter__all there is a thread in there about patching and how to protect your modded files http://combatace.com/topic/55746-patching-made-easy-part-deux/ I would suggest making a backup of your mod folder prior to patching and then if anything does get messed up then you can always drag over the old files from the back-up and replace the ones effected by patching.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

  6. The first thing I would suggest is that you go to your mod folder and pick your least modded install of the 3 you have and drag it to another location (perhaps your desktop) then go into your start menu and launch which ever title it was that you moved, this will essentially create a fresh install of that game........if it runs then you can start putting your mods back in. Then you can go try the other two.

If this doesnt work then I would go re-download the latest installers.

    Good luck

  7. Been flying without visual cues for years - with a TiR an hi res monitor its fine.

I've tried but I just cant be .......as effective :this: without the a little help. I have everything turned off but a small red dot to paint my current target.

Anyways, with all the visual cues and cheats turned off you are probably getting results closer to real life historical stats ???........which was my point.

  8.

So, in a 1972 era Vietnam dogfight such as May 10,1972 with 4xAIM-7E2 and 4xAIM-9G/Hs, I expect to get about 7+/-1 kills.

When in reality, you were lucky if you got one and in the rare case of Duke, three kills in a single sortie.

Of course, not even accounting for the changes from the patch, it was already normal for me to get 2-4 kills in the same situation and 7-8 was possible with patience and luck.

Unlike reality, the AI sooner or later gives you the shot opportunity that was very rare in reality.

Unlike reality, I can run my fuel pretty low waiting for that opportunity without any real worries.

    Hey streak

I'm not sure exactly how you have your game setup but I think a lot of people lose site of the fact that this game( and most others) offer up a host of visual clues (like red target boxes) which give us as players a distinct advantage that really makes it unfair to compare mission results with real life Historical statistics...... As I said earlier I am not familiar with your setup and how you have your visual "cheats" displayed, but judging by the results you are refering to I can only assume you have these visual aids enabled.........now if you tell me that you are getting these results without any visual aids enabled then I am seriously impressed.

#1 Btw, how do you judge your distance from the carrier since there no target square on it with distance reference like ACs does?

#2 How do you keep it straight on the carrier when the freakin rudders does only seem to take you pointing at direction while the entire plane is going on the direction it wants?

#3 Im not sure if the difficulty is because im just using my keyboard instead of a proper flight stick but the since its a laptop i feel that's a bit off.

#1 It's nice that TW has finally introduced a functioning ILS (instrument landing system) try to keep the big white cross on your hud centered.....if the cross is above the center of your hud then your too low, if it's below center then your too high, and the same idea for side to side.......also keep an eye on the little white circle that floats around on your hud (velocity vector) it tells you where your plane will go to with your current speed and attitude, so point that white circle at the close end of the deck where you want to touch down

#2 If you need to move left or right to stay lined up on final dip your wing in the direction you need to go instead of using your rudder.......use your rudder to stay parallel (in line) with the runway.

#3 Same thing everybody else said......you will enjoy the game so much more. :good:

  10. Are you running software for the stick or just running through windows?

Does windows recognize the stick in control panel?

    Dx9 up to date?

I think if you are running dx9 you need to force the game to use dx9??? I think this is done in the options.ini? Maybe when you patch up, the file gets reverted back to stock.........just a thought, I am running dx10

  11. I had some similar issues on the last round of patches. try renaming your controls folder to "Xcontrols" or whatever works for you, and then restart the game and let it generate a whole new controls folder then go in and re-map to your liking.....on my set-up I have 2 different controls files one is the default and one is re-named and completely remapped to suit my homebuilt sim pit ....thing. Anyways when I did the april update the default control ini just refused to let me remap anything until I did what I explained earlier......thankfully my other custom ini wasnt bothered with the update, it's alot of work to remap EVERYTHING

    Hope that works for you.
