Modding the HUD
Spiff replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks Crusader, will give it a try. -
What's the definitive version of the F-111?
-
Could someone take a look at this download, specifically the fuel tanks, the .bmps as well as some of the lods have the same name and I can't get the grey ones to show because of it. There are 4 tanks included. Thanks.

F-4E ARN-101

Never done any hacking of the LODs. Decided to just use the F-4Gl's tanks and edit the data and loadout .ini. Easier fix IMHO. -
For Allenjb42 or Dave . . .

While working on/modding the A-6E SWIP/TRAM model, do you recall if it has a visible centerline pylon model? -
Kudos and a weps question

Between EricJ's hornets, Bobrock's Tornado F3, and MF's Mig29s, I'm having a hard time giving these birds the time they deserve. Really nice works of art. I want to know what that specific weapon station line really does for the model. For me if you do that and another bird uses the same weapon your're not going to see it unless that bird is set up that way too (in the data.in ). It seems like it just allows the creator to be very specific with loadouts but doesn't jive with functionality. Any thoughts? -
Anyone ever come across additional skins for this bird?

Could someone briefly, if possible, explain how if you're looking at an aircraft in an external view (F6) say down over the pilot's shoulder toward the cockpit floor and you see the ground going by, but if you just swing around using say your hat switch to the underside of the nose it appears solid with no break. What's going on there? -

Got it. Would you say(anyone) most of the model makers are in the industry or students who get the programs at a discount. -

Great explanation Server..., and I get what you're saying so if you're in that F6 external view admiring the aircraft why can you from a top down perspective see through that cockpit floor when there is obviously a skin, panel, whatever there when looking from beneath when its one model. I think I need a 3d program. -
What's the highest evolution of the Mirage family of aircraft available in a TW sim (Mirage still in name) and if different real world?

I think I follow, but in this case I'm still in the same external view, just changing my position. In any case I'll leave it to the modellers. Is the cockpit a seperate model inserted into the airframe sometimes? -
Mirage Aircraft

Good replies all. I guess I was leaning more towards the French side, so fougamagister, is the Rafale the replacement for the Mirage 2000. -

Knife fight, gun kills in a sabre. . .nuf said. -
Hello All, Could someone post the tailhook section of their data initial for the F-9F Panther. I can't catch a wire after many attempts and yes the hook is down. Also have to say the F-111s recently released are impressive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're sitting in the cockpit and look left, the aircraft lights on that side should be red? . . .and I can still deploy the speedbrake with weight on the wheels.

Column5, whose JollyR skin is that? I love Miss Molly. -
F-9F Panther
Spiff replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
For anyone with carrier hook problems, I had a reversemodelorientation line in the tailhook section which I deleted and added the cougar's hook length and position settings and I can now trap, but I'm not sure what exactly fixed the problem. Wrench, if you can (doubtful unless you have access to the model?), please fix the nosewheel steering too. You go in the right direction but the wheel doesn't. -
F-9F Panther
Spiff replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the replies. I tried the carrierbased line and also added hook data from the A-4 with no success. Don't know if I would ever have found that update in the skins section wrench, but I'm gonna give it a try. I really think the panther is a well-done ac (maybe I just have a thing for the early jets) and I'm lookin forward to trying those skins (sad to see those decal errors in the update pic though, top of fuse and nose). I seem to lock-up my system on the single mission page every time I try to fly a CAS mission with WW2 weapons in updated WOV. FC, when you revisit the lights on the 111's, I get a mixed loadout of MER racks sometimes (the white stock ones and your included green ones but this is probably a problem on my end due to my configuration). -
Another decal question
Spiff posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello All, I'm asking this question because I'm flying some of the excellent F-14 skins by pauln. If you have a decal folder specified as "D" in the skin folder and you have a numbers list, you change the numbers list to xnumbers and make sure the first number tga has the 000 after the name, but this doesn't work if the game randomly picks a number you don't have. . . right? Or does this only apply to skins which use the "in-stock" game numbers, but even then the game might pick a number not included. I don't get tail insignia on my tomcats alot. The pathnames for the decals are correct. Little mixed up. Spiff -
Another decal question
Spiff replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As always, thanks Dave. I think (have to double check) even if I specify the CAG bird 00 when the game picked 10, it still starts assigning the flight at 10. -
I'm amazed by the quality of the shots here and what the Thirdwire engine w/mods is capable of. How'd that palm tree get way up here? Spiff
-
I had to write something, that screenshot reminded me of that Far Side comic where the co-pilot turns to the Captain and says, How did that mountain goat get way up here in a cloud bank?
-
Hello All, Just wondering what aircraft are supposed to carry the meteor missile, don't see them in any of the loadouts for the aircraft I usually fly. Thanks. Spiff

Just me, then.

LOOKING BACK IN WOV PROBLEM

In WOV, patched to SEP08, the default setting is shift key plus F5.
