Red Pill screenshots #8 - Choose your weapons
Slartibartfast replied to Dimitris's topic in Naval Combat Information Center
Okay this is looking really interesting now and I am awaiting this with anticipation... -
Herr Olham at present I am in Vienna and I might be here for some time so knowing Deutsch does help... especially if I move here for good... which is what I am hoping.

WOV carriers
Slartibartfast replied to Ice Man's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Okay the Carriers dont appear in Single Player unless you have created a single player mission involving them. Carriers only appear in Campaigns if they are tasked to operate as Aircraft carriers... Hope this helps. -
Have a good hoilday Herr Olham. I apologise for not replying in Deutsch but I am learning slowly...

China and Pakistan Push Chengdu JF-17 Fighter for Export
Slartibartfast replied to Erik's topic in CombatACE News
If I remember rightly the F-16E/F model was punting at $26.9 million 2005. The C/D was about the same money or slightly vheaper as a Mirage 2000 $23 million in 2006... -
Thinking about a new gaming laptop...
Slartibartfast replied to malibu43's topic in Hardware/Software Chat
Well at present I am using a works laptop its a Dell E Series Latitude E4300 and it runs SF2 with Nato IV+ on medium settings with mirrors and shadows very well... Running XP 3 Intel 9300 Core 2 2.26 2 Gigs of Ram Standard Video Card & Sound Card I have yet to see a problem and on SF2 Nato IV+ I have modded it further and it is yet to falter even when I see an entire SA-3 Battery let loose... Thats 6 Launchers with 3 birds a piece while flying a TMF F-14B... and there where about 20 other jets roaming around besides me and my 4... So it took a good beating and seemed to say is that it... So anything with above those specs and you should be very happy... -
Must admit I have FSX havn't flown it in awhile but my I own the Cargo Hauler addon and it makes it more interesting... Especially as I start my companies in out of the way places like Nepal or Alaska... Its Interesting flying out there especially with realistic weather switched on... and trying to get a Cessna airborne from an 8000ft mountain fully laden to fly 500 miles to another airfield at 10000ft does make it fun to say the least... Trying not to break the cargo or the plane...

China and Pakistan Push Chengdu JF-17 Fighter for Export
Slartibartfast replied to Erik's topic in CombatACE News
Yup they did... But why not the, from what I heard the JF-17 isn't that bad a plane. Its probably easier to maintain though possibly requiring more maintenence per flight hour than a western jet. Cheaper and until someone matches it up against an F-16 (aka the bellybutton seems everyones got one it used to be the Mig-21's byline) and I am sure thats going to happen soon with the Pakistani Air Force and the data is let out. Seems like a good deal also it does come without the western restrictions that are sometimes imposed. Its like buying a VW or a Skoda why buy a VW for the price of a VW you can buy a new Skoda and you get all the toys with the Skoda... So the badge isn't too shiny (I am not being disrespectful there to anyone)... -
Remember as well that the Nuke was a weapon... and as it was total war at the time any weapon that could be used was used. If the Japanese had a nuke they would have used it no question. Also the Japanese where still in for the fight. I have studied enough military history to realise this the Japanese were not going to surrender quietly until after the nukes had been dropped. As has been said the Japanese still had a large standing army with which to repel an invasion. Dropping the first Nuke was simple expediant of using the weapon they had the second was to state we can do this again and again and again. Also it was a warning to Stalin. And as William T Sherman said (I may be wrong) "War is Hell"... Wikipedia can be edited by anyone and some of what I have read on there has made me laugh in its inaccuracy...

A-6E Intruder for SF2
Slartibartfast posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Has anyone done an A-6E Intruder ? I am wondering as I would like to be able to do a full range of missions from the Carrier that has been added to SF2 Nato IV+ to go with the Tomcat campaign as I have already added a setup for A-7E and the F-18C... And I am planning on doing a mod to the 1979 version as well and I might add the USN to all the campaigns to see how they do... Be rude not to invite the USN to at least some of the party... -

NATO Fighters 4+ Patch Post Dec 2009 Patch Level
Slartibartfast replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Well I am back flying in SF2 didn't know my Laptop have been experimenting as I wasn't too sure if the Laptops Video card could handle it... and I have to say I love this mod... Even more so now I get the Tomcat... oh and the AV-8B from the Tarawa nice addition and as to Mr SAM what happened there they are mean lean and hungry!!! I did a practice sortie in the F-4G on a SEAD sortie and I was fired at by over 40 SAM's it was interesting to be fired at by an entire SA-3 battery firing 5 SAM's at me... on my nose. Wish I had time to get a screenshot but I was also dodging from an SA-8 battery at the time... I didn't survive... It's great fun... and my thanks again to everyone involved... :drinks: -
Not a fan of the BMV but it does look good in white... I will admit. Me I am a biker my ZZR Expire last year and due to changing countries this year with work I havn't had time or the finances to getting a new bike... but I am looking at either a ZZR1400 or a ZX-9 as I dont fit the ZX-10 also I am looking at an Aprilia just for something different, possibly a good thing!!! But I will also need a 250cc crosser living in Austria for playing in the snow...

Royal Navy’s Most Advanced Destroyer Sets Course into Service
Slartibartfast replied to Erik's topic in CombatACE News
There are a few problems with the Type 45... At present the SAM system doesn`t work they still havn't fired a missile from a Type 45 and the last 2 test launches from the test barge both failed!!! For the same cost the RN could have purchased AEGIS or even the latest Block Arleigh Burkes which would have been cheaper carry more SAM's and have already got the integration for Tomahawk's etc... As she sits she would need to have the ASTER system VLS replaced to carry Tomahawk... They have finally relented and are giving the ships a pair of Phalanx guns as she was originally designed without them... Also they carry no ASW Torpedo Tubes!!! Apart from that when they get all their kit working and on board they will be a good boat but for the same money an Arleigh Burke Flight 2 would have been a better buy... So for the final cost of the 6 Type 45 DDG, each carrying a total of 48 SAM'S, the RN could have had 12 Arleigh Burke's each carrying 96 SAM's. I know and this from an Englishman terrible... -
 Okay lets look at this either a you give the Afghans a new Helicopter that they have no experience with or you give them what they know answer to that is easy... This isn't for the US Navy its to train the Afghans on how to use and operate their own Helicopters which if I believe is the Mi-8/17 series not the S-61... Also I bet you can buy more Mi-17's than S-61's...
