The best graphics quality, How do I get it?
zmatt replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just make sure you deactivate those settings when you play other games. The reason you have to do it through Catalyst is because the SFP1 engine does not directly support AA and AF. Almost all modern games do however, and its better to configure that in the game itself. -
F-108!

It reminds me of the F-11F with a rounder body and shoulder mounted wing. -

Open catalyst control center and go to 3d, change the Anti aliasing and Antroscopic filtering settings to manual and take the slider all the way to the right. Then go to your profile manager and make a new profile. Name it WO* or something you will remember and save it. Now every time you want to play a WO* game activate that profile. This will force AA and AF in the game which makes it look a million times better. -
Attacking a Floating Buzz-saw

How do you get missions with the extra ships to work? I only get to attack unarmed cargo ships. I want to sink an armada. -
Every now and then i get this in the American NW terrain. Instead of getting a textured ground I get blackened earth. I don't think its an error with day/night, because the ground doesn't respond to aircraft lights when I turn them on. I think the tiles are failing to load and the terrain model happens to black underneath it all. This only happens intermittently which has me really confused. Any ideas?

AIM120C
zmatt replied to exssive's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
From what I understand the largest difference between the C and earlier models is the longer range and clipped control surfaces. What about the D? It is entering full production, has anyone made one for the TW games yet? -
A tale to be told...
zmatt replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
so your saying that the guns would work fine, but due to the high speeds the effective range would be less than normal? I guess that makes sense if the projectiles are already starting at mach 3 before they are fired. Although I bet it would be interesting to see what would happen to a round that has such a high velocity, but no contact with the atmosphere and is then thrust into it at 1600mph more than it was already going. I would imagine the wind resistance, friction and other things would hamper its performance. -

I don't want to ruin a conversation by bringing physics into this but, if your mig-25 is going ~mach 3 (2,283mph at sea level) and the gsh 23 has a muzzle velocity of 1,600mph. Wouldn't the mig-25 instead of shooting the B-70A down just gobble up its own rounds and shoot itself down? -

Wasn't Fred also the US codename for a Japanese fighter? If I remember right male names went to fighters and female names went to bombers. -
Vertical takeoff with Harrier - is it possible?
zmatt replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The wing leveler is shift A. It is really helpful for Nav. Say for one reason or another you want to fly at a constant altitude, to avoid sam's or something, Auto Pilot flies to the altitude of the waypoints. But with the wing leveler you can align yourself to the right heading and turn it on so you can fly hands free to the way point at whatever altitude you want. It is also helpful for doing those really low runs so you don't plow into the ground. I also use it when using phoenix's on the tomcat at really long range. I want to keep the target painted to give the missile the best shot so I have her fly striaght and level. Auto Pilot would take it off bore sight and i don't trust the FM to fly with no hands. -

Fun plane to fly now that i got it working. Seems to be an IR magnet but rarely does one winder kill it, at least from the rear. I have coaxed her back home after winder hits several times now. She is pretty solid built. Doesn't stand up to AMRAAMs though, but then again nothing else does either. -

Vertical takeoff with Harrier - is it possible?
zmatt replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
They did well in the Falklands, but I think that can be attributed to pilot skill and training. The harrier is not an air superiority fighter, and after the war the Brits seemed to have realized it. -

That's the one I use. I don't know what the problem is, but I'm not I'm much of a hurry to find out. I have one question, why does the AIM-26 kill everything in a 10 mile radius, and the genie is safe to use even though the genie carries a more powerful warhead? I have never gotten away from an AIM-26 blast, it wipes the skies clean, but the Genie acts more like a really big bomb. -

I understand where he is coming from, but imma have to agree with you. The harrier has saved my tail in game a few times. It's survivability compared to other jets I have is pretty good. There are quite a few high tech fighters in game that seem to be IR magnets, as for the AV-8B, I once had an su-27 let loose all of its armament on me and not a scrtch, he tried for a guns but I put him in a tight turn and jammed his gun. It is not fun to land VTOL and vertical take-off on a real mission is a pipe dream, but it gets the job done. It's job is a particular one and there are missions that I would not want to use it on (fleet air arm take note) But I have had a lot of fun with it, and I rarely get shot down in the harrier. -

I never could get my nuke effects to work. I understand its a very involved process to get them to stick to the weapons. As long as my genies blow the other guys up I'm happy, the effects would just be icing. -

Suggestions or Solutions Anyone?
zmatt replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
A lot of mobile Nvidia graphics cards form the past year were faulty and Nvidia only came out and said it way after the fact. It is very likely that if you have a mobile geforce card that you could have a faulty one. It's no exaggeration when I say that the laptops that use the faulty cards are dropping left and right. The problem has to do with a solder issue. http://www.slashgear.com/nvidia-notebook-g...lummet-0312385/ There are a lot of articles on it. If you have an Intel card then it could be because the Intel IGPs outright stink. I have tried playing several games on a laptop with Intel graphics (gma950 to be exact) and there are a lot of weird graphics errors. -
Lag Issues
zmatt replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Turn your resolution up. I know that sounds counter productive, but the modern cards are meant to run at the higher resolutions. You are bottlenecking your system otherwise. Also turn the shadows to low and turn off mirrors. Turning off the mirrors gave me a solid 10fps boost. The game is based on an old engine so a lot of things aren't taken advantage of, but if you tweak ti a bit you can get respectable frames. Also, if you can OC your cpu. The game is cpu limited not video card limited, and since its not multithreaded the only way to improve the cpu performance without getting a new one is overclocking. The difference in gameplay between running my e7200 at stock and at 4ghz is very noticable. -
canopy animations
zmatt posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I know that there is a problem with canopy animations post October patch and I know that the solution is to either bind it to an animation key or so flip the variables. Can anyone tell me the specific lines that I need to change? -
